Pro-Peace Protests Are Sweeping Israel Right Now… and Israeli ‘JDL’ Fascists Are Freaking Out
A dispatch from Countercurrentsnow.com
[O]nly yesterday we reported on protests against the War on Gaza that had flooded the streets of Jerusalem with thousands of protesters. Jews and Muslims marched side-by-side in support of civilians in Gaza, and yet the vast majority of the corporate, mainstream media completely ignored this story.
Later yesterday, Neo-Fascist Kahanist members of the “Jewish Defense League” (classified as “a right-wing terrorist group” by the FBI in 2001), showed up in Haifa to form a right-wing violent demonstrations against an anti-war protest where Israeli Defense Forces veterans read testimonies of their service in the Israeli army.
The JDL terrorists chanted “death to Arabs”, as well as “Muhammad is dead” and “we’ll burn down your villages” but the anti-war demonstrators, replied with “Jews and Arabs refuse to be enemies”. Israeli Anti-Fascist activists were there to tangle with the JDL terrorists and take back the streets of Israel from the right-wing hawks.
Now, protests have been raging all over Israel today during the Jewish Shabbat and into the evening as the new week has begun in Israel.
As the State of Israel’s “Operation Protective Edge” entered its 12th day, and the death toll has surpassed 325 in Gaza (with at least 100 deaths in the last 24 hours), more and more pro-peace Israelis are taking to the streets to demand an end to the war that is almost exclusively killing Gazan civilians.
At least 30 people were arrested in Haifa, where Anti-Fascists clashed with the JDL terrorists. Here, in the largest city in northern Israel, protestors marched in defiance of Israel’s actions in the Gaza Strip. But a much bigger crowd, almost entirely Jewish, turned out Saturday night in Tel Aviv, where hundreds have gathered in Israel’s second-most-populous city. As we post this, the massive protest in Tel Aviv is still raging.
