EYE ON THE MEDIA : John Oliver on Nemtsov murder, et al

John-Oliver---HBO-Last-We-014[dropcap]O[/dropcap]liver is usually extremely good at exposing capitalist chicanery and abuses on the domestic front, and that includes the stupidity of Federal, state, and local governments, but his foreign policy compass is broken and often curiously reactionary. He tends to parrot the US State Dept. line, or that reflected on the whore mainstream media.

A glaring gap in his knowledge—assuming it’s that—is his understanding of imperialism, in general, and Latin America, in the particular. A quick course with James Petras or Michael Parenti—or just reading regularly this site’s materials would get him “au courant.” However, what would happen if he did move in a consistently progressive direction in terms of international affairs??? How long would his gig last? You know the answer. That said, why must they even go there if they know they will be carrying water for the empire? Why not just leave the topic alone? After all, it’s not like the empire’s point of view is a media orphan.—PG
