Rick Steves has a long career as a travel guide to Europe and many other spots around the world. His show appears regularly on PBS. Yet even his otherwise innocuous travelogues are vehicles for propaganda. Steve proves here that he is first and above all an American “ambassador” to both foreigners and fellow Americans, and that as such he can also be an effective disseminator of imperial distortions. Oh, by the way, enjoy Berlin.
I can’t stand to watch him smugly traipsing around from country to country, all there for his enjoyment. Most obnoxious is the gusto with which he embraces the various cuisines, where no animal is off the menu. His willingness to taste anything marks his arrogance, as does his attitude that all this finery is there for his pleasure.
This pampered cossetted moron makes me even sicker than he used to.
This is a show for the entitled and the privileged, who see the world and all its cultures as there for the taking.
