#Russia: Bikini-clad Siberians set skiing world record. Over 1800 scantily clad skiers and snowboarders descended from Mount Zelyonaya’s Sheregesh resort in Siberia, setting a new Guiness record for the world’s largest downhill ride in swim suits.

[dropcap]R[/dropcap]ussians are made of stern stuff, and they might as well be, for they often have the whole world invidiously arrayed against them. If America didn’t have the mountains of money it has to wage endless imperialist wars, mobilizing many of the world’s poor to do its bidding (including a fair amount of native but equally poor but dumb radical individualist reactionaries), it would be hard pressed, as a rotten, utterly decadent society to jump into these world domination contests with people who know much more about suffering.
In World War II (Known as The Great Patriotic War to most Russians), they sustained 26 million casualties, equivalent to the US losing (at the time) the entire populations of California, New York and Texas—in a single conflict. If 9/11 with less than 3,000 victims has caused such a national trauma, try wrapping your mind around that colossal figure: 26,000,000.
Not to mention the destruction by the Axis forces of more than 75,000 towns, many major cities (including of course Stalingrad and Leningrad) and a mind-numbing number of others resources stolen, or rendered unusable. The anglo-American axis meanwhile absorbed about 1/20th of that cost, with comparatively much lesser civilian casualties, let alone (in the USA) massive air bombing campaigns, the devastation of invading armies, and so forth. Though conquered, France was not subjected to the level of brutal all-out war assigned by the Nazis to Russia.
[box] “In Russia there comes the hope of the world, not as that sometimes termed of the communistic, or Bolshevik, no; but freedom, freedom! That each man will live for his fellow man! The principle has been born. It will take years for it to be crystallised, but out of Russia comes again the hope of the world.” (SOURCE: Edgar Cayce, 1944, No. 3976-29)[/box]
