Democrats vs Republicans: Who Hates Putin The Most?

From party ideologues to presidential candidates, the two US political parties seem to have one goal in common: Bringing Russia to heel

Here’s a story of a bunch of war hawks, who are planning out three very lovely wars.

As per usual, Americans and their media are focusing on their hatred of whatever is pissing them off this week, like Putin, and having a knee-jerk reaction toward Donald Trump instead of being even a little bit worried that American presidential candidates have been very bellicose about Russia, a major nuclear-armed state. I don’t have any particular preference for any of the yahoos running for president, so I can look at the parties’ Russia policies with more or less of an open mind.

Democrats, supposedly opposed to Republican policies, can’t get their act together enough to form a cogent argument against GOP warmongering aside from, “Trump is a bigot. Feel the Bern.” Perhaps this is because Democrats hate Russia about as much as Republicans do. Democrats have decided that Mitt Romney was right all along, and Russia really is our enemy after all. At least we’ve gotten that cleared up. Phew. Thanks for that heads-up, Mitt.

Democrats and Republicans have their disagreements about social policy and what constitutes a nativity, but at least they’re all on the same page about Russia: It sucks. YOU GUYS! PUTIN WANTS TO DESTROY AMERICA AND IS USING DONALD TRUMP TO DO IT.

The way the U.S is surrounding Russia with military bases and threatening to nuke them if they don’t get out of our way already is of little importance. But who really hates Russia the most? And by Russia, I mean Vladimir Putin. And by hate, I mean “has romantic feelings for.”

How do the parties stack up?

Team GOP

Lindsay Graham had a meltdown because the U.S. hasn’t gone to war with Russia.

John McCain, no stranger to these pages, has repeatedly expressed an intense dislike for Putin.

Pat Buchanan has a very sensible position on Russia, but, like Trump, he is considered a crackpot. (I like you, Pat. I read your articles.)

Carly Fiorina has infamously stated she wouldn’t talk to Putin (she’s already unfriended him on Facebook, and left a nasty note in his locker). She wants to prepare the U.S. militarily for a possible armed conflict with Russia.

John Kasich said he would punch the Russians in the nose (Kasich already stole all of Russia’s milk money.)

Chris Christie wants to shoot down Russian war planes, even if that means triggering war with Russia. He also threatened to beat up the Russian president. Bro, do you even lift?

Ben Carson would use military force on Russia if he felt the U.S. was threatened. He stated he would give the order to fire on a Russian jet and then just say “whatevs” with regard to the outcome.

Marco Rubio wishes to return Crimea to Ukraine, and arm Kiev.

Jeb Bush, brother of the architect of the Iraq fiasco, supports Turkey’s shoot-down of a Russian jet, and wants to punish Russia for their involvement in Syria.

This is a very nice war, bottled and packaged at the source.

Team Donkey

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he only Democrat who doesn’t have their head up their butt about Russia is Tulsi Gabbard. She is only 34, so is too young to run for president, but I am looking forward to her rise. She is to be applauded for her nerve alone in standing up to Obama’s policies.

Barack Obama presided over the overthrow of Viktor Yanukovych, the democratically elected president of Ukraine. He employed neo-Nazi battalions to terrorize the ethnic Russian population of Ukraine. Then lied about it. His administration misled the American public about the Crimean situation.

Then he blamed the whole thing on Russia.

Petro Poroshenko continues to grow rich while ordinary Ukrainians suffer. Prime Minister Arseniy Yastenyuk is involved in a corruption scandal. Joe Biden’s son Hunter is on the board of a Ukrainian gas company. Need I go on?

Obama’s presumed heir apparent, Hillary Clinton, hates Putin. Like, a lot. She compared him to Hitler, and does a really bad impersonation of him. Homegirl is itching for a fight, and anyone will do. She wants to fight ISIS, but oh yeah, also Syria, Russia, and Iran.
Hmm…I wonder if I can get Pussy Riot to play at my inaugural ball.
The Great White Hope of leftists, Bernie Sanders, has stated that he would be willing to work with Russia, but he also expressed his displeasure at Russia’s actions in Syria. He has also been vague about the U.S.’s potential relationship with Russia were he to become president. Sanders has spoken of a “new NATO” that includes Russia. Those are the good points.

Anderson Cooper red-baited Sanders about his honeymoon in the USSR. Sanders does claim to be a socialist, and Russia is still relatively socialist by American standards. Sanders may find some common ground with Russia’s history of social welfare programs, but both nations need to reform their social programs. The biggest complaint I hear about Putin from actual Russians is he is doing too much privatization of the social welfare system.

The bad points include a lot of talk about “Russian aggression,” ™; isolating Putin (natch); and, the kicker:

“Instead of rushing in and making the same mistakes we’ve made in Iraq and Afghanistan, Bernie recommends making informed decisions and working with ally nations to isolate Russia economically and politically. He believes that only after all peaceful and diplomatic efforts have been exhausted should we consider war.”
Charming. For those playing at home, remember, not jumping head-first into war is considered a very generous position from an American presidential candidate.

Sanders talks up his opposition to the two Iraq wars, and good for him, but he but proudly affirms that he “supported the use of force to stop the ethnic cleansing in the Balkans” and voted in favor of invading Afghanistan.

When asked about Russia, Sanders regurgitates Obama administration talking points, stating Putin will regret what he is doing in Syria.

And at what point, then, does Sanders decide that diplomacy has failed, and that he must go to war with Russia? It’s unclear.

Making themselves abundantly clear are Hillary Clinton and the GOP. It might all be election year bravado, but there it is. The Republican candidates at the GOP debates have all been trying to outdo each other on their tough talk against Putin. Ted Cruz and Rand Paul have softened a little, but not enough for anyone to believe they are sincere.

Is there a difference between the party ideologues amongst the Democrats and Republicans when it comes to Russia? Absolutely not. Sergei Lavrov seems to agree. Said the Russian Foreign Minister last August:

“Of course, we follow the election campaign and its peripeteia,” the chief diplomat said at the Terra Scientia International Youth Forum, according to state-owned news service Sputnik International. “There is an opinion that it has been easier for our country, since Soviet times, with a Republican president, rather than a Democratic one … But I can honestly tell you that I do not see a major difference.”

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]roublingly, there isn’t a whole lot of outrage coming from Americans about the candidates who are not Donald Trump and their willingness to start a war with Russia. They are all too focused on complaining about what a jerk they think Trump is to worry about a pesky thing like WWIII. Despite Trump’s failings, he still remains the only candidate who isn’t eager to start a war with Russia.

And war with Russia necessarily means nuclear war, meaning a) the 2016 presidential candidates are, for the most part, a bunch of deranged psychopaths who possess no moral qualms about threatening to plunge the planet into nuclear winter or b) they think churlishness is a good way to drive voters to the polls (which…let’s face it), or c) no American politician, on the right or left, has ever faced any serious consequences for military adventurism or saber-rattling, so they can toss out belligerent threats like candy and face zero retribution.

Instead of pressuring their government to reduce military spending and reinvest some of those trillions at home, the American media machine has successfully distracted the populace from asking for actual leadership out of their candidates. Perpetual war and the genocide of Middle Eastern people are states of being Americans have become accustomed to.

But the special snowflake Americans shouldn’t have to put up with a crude bigot as their leader. That would be undignified.
