The Philippines are like almost all countries in the world, in that they have been colonized for centuries by Europeans and then Americans. For Palestinians, add Israel. There is a salient fact in this history that is ignored and censored in Eurangloland: the West is an imperial system and it is still imposing colonialism on its colonies to this day, in spite their symbolic “independence”, for most, after World War II. The US has well over 250,000 soldiers and 1,000 military installations in the Americas, Europe, Africa, Asia and Oceania. There are 193 countries in the United Nations. This does not include China, but it does the Philippines. France is occupied by NATO, which means the French are occupied by Uncle Sam.

After the Spanish-American War, the people of the Philippines thought they would get their independence, but the U.S kept them in a thinly-disguised version of vassalage. This gave rise to an insurrection 1899 which lasted until 1902. In the end, over one million Filipino civilians perished in the war and the United States won, thereby setting up America’s first transcontinental colony.
The Philippines and the vast majority of the world’s countries are also financially occupied. China has complete freedom and independence from the IMF, WB, Wall Street and the oil bankers. China controls the foreign corporations doing business there, via many laws, regulations and the administrative capacity to enforce them.

Filipinos have no political freedom either. Explaining the EU’s boot licking obedience to the dictates and needs of America, even when it means cutting off its economic and diplomatic nose in spite of its face (viz the Russian sanctions and Syrian refugees, among countless examples), Paul Craig Roberts reported that the Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs bragged about buying European politicians with “bags of cash” http://www.paulcraigroberts.org/2014/06/09/world-war-ii-unknown-war-paul-craig-roberts/. It is common knowledge around the world that the Western empire buys politicians and pays for laws and policies that make it “legal” to exploit the local population working for pennies per hour, while polluting their environment and hauling off their natural resources at bargain prices, to be taken back to enrich Western countries. If bribes don’t work, extortion, threats and blackmail are in order. [dropcap]C[/dropcap]hina does not have this problem, thanks to the communist revolution. After 1949, American and European colonialists were run out of New China, the fascist Japanese Imperial Army was defeated (with the help of the Russians in Manchuria) and Uncle Sam’s favorite gangster, Chiang Kai-Shek and his KMT mobsters were kept from being destroyed by the US using its navy to send two million of them to take over Taiwan. Chinese capitalists, landlords and business owners lost all their assets to the people, with every square centimeter of the People’s Republic being nationalized. The masses held court for them. If they were irredeemably cruel and abusive to their workers and tenants, many of them got a red-tipped bullet in the back of the head. Most others received prison sentences and an education in Marxism-Leninism. Those who were fair and treated the people well also got an honorary degree in revolutionary studies and new jobs in administration or manual labor.
Since then, China has remained to this day extremely vigilant against those who used to be called counter-revolutionaries, now known as the “the fifth column”. They would gladly sell their souls, their people and their nation down the colonial river to Eurangloland, to regain their personal fortunes and fiefs.
It is true that innocent people suffered, due to the post-1949 nationalization of China’s resources, as well as during later campaigns to remove fifth columnists, for example, the ill-guided anti-rightist movement in 1957. As Mao Zedong famously said, revolution is not a tea party. Just ask America’s George Washington, the French Jacobins and Cuba’s Fidel Castro, among many.
That is the downside. But to this day, China is one of only a handful of countries that can proudly say it is 110% free of Western colonialists, capitalists (corporations), the IMF, the World Bank and their life sucking, parasitic oil banking families. It is no coincidence that they are all communist: China, Cuba, North Korea and Eritrea. As a result, the Western empire has been and continues to spend billions of fiat dollars and euros, day after day, year after year, to destroy them.
Like every non-communist country in the world, local elites and families who were and still are the West’s centurions and satraps, exploit the local people with the same vengeance and greed lust as their colonial masters. In many countries, especially Latin America, they are the European families who first came to invade and exterminate the local, native populations. Like Latin America, the Philippines were colonized by Spain for almost four hundred years, by wealthy, Castilian families. Over the centuries, through intermarriage, the family names may now be “local”, but the European bloodlines still own the country.
Filipinos told me that since their token “independence” from imperial America in 1945, all but a couple of the Philippines’ presidents have come from these wealthy, European families. The vast majority of the upper echelons of government, corporations and the military are peas from the same poisonous, colonial pod.
In China, its millennial elite families and emperors were put in their place by the revolution and replaced by the Communist Party of China (CPC). They suffered the same fate as China’s fascists, colonialists and capitalists. Behind the Great Western Firewall, mainstream propaganda loves to make hay out of China’s “Red Princes” and “Red Royalty”, the offspring of the CPC’s early revolutionaries, those who liberated the country from the West and Japan. Today, there are of course scions of previous government and military leaders, such as President Xi Jinping, whose father was a celebrated revolutionary, soldier and administrator.
It is only natural to want to follow in one’s parents’ steps. But instead of selling out to Western colonialism, the overwhelming majority of these sons and daughters support communism and socialism with Chinese characteristics. Those who are fifth columnists tend to get weeded out or simply not join the CPC, to seek their fortunes elsewhere (like Xi Jinping’s brother and sisters). Among China’s leaders since 1949, most have come from humble, workaday origins. The overwhelming majority of the CPC’s 88 million strong membership is made up of common people: farmers, soldiers, white and blue collar workers.
[dropcap]T[/dropcap]hus, after living a total of thirteen years in China, from 1990 until now, and traveling to two of the Philippines’ bigger islands, Mindanao and Cebu, as well as two other smaller islands, the difference between the two countries is like night and day.
Once leaving the airport in the Philippines, you are immediately confronted with endemic poverty. There is not famine or obvious hunger, but very few people seem to be prospering, just surviving. For those who work, salaries are mostly subsistence level. Since employment is limited, many Filipinos are small time (family) entrepreneurs, street vendors or buskers. One family we got to know has 14 people living under one small roof. This is common in the Philippines. The whole ambiance is one of the people living from hand to mouth. Stomachs are full, but for the majority, that is about the extent of their capitalist dream.
Infrastructure across the country is barely adequate. Trains are primitive. Roads are saturated with traffic and in a constant state of disrepair. Public transportation, like buses and metros, does not exist. It has all been privatized and it shows. Manila, the country’s capital, is infamous for eternal gridlock and Davao, the second largest city, is not much better. Internet is spotty and molasses-slow. Utilities, like water, electricity and sewage are in desperate need of upgrading. Water quality is so bad that already poor Filipinos spend badly needed money on bottled water, creating mountains of empty plastic bottles. In Davao, a city of 1.6 million, there is one small public park in the center of town. Almost all of the Philippines’ land has been monetized and privatized, although thankfully, the beaches are kept public and cannot be fenced off, like in the United States.
[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he Philippines have 102 million citizens, with another 10 million working overseas. Their remittances are vital to keep their families back home from sliding into even deeper poverty. Stories from rich countries of their economic abuse, sexual harassment and rape are legendary, as is the fact they expect to be paid much less than a white person for the same job, due to their inferior status and skin color.
Amazingly, Filipinos fought for and have in place universal health care and public education. I had a pretty serious accident during my first visit to the Philippines and was incredibly impressed with the public ambulance, non-profit hospital and care that I got. I happily wrote letters afterwards to the mayor and the doctor to thank them for a job well done, and congratulated them on Filipinos rejecting a cruel, criminal and corrupt sickness system, like in the United States.
Filipinos are a proud, dignified people and some of the nicest on Earth. They survive with great perseverance and after almost 500 years of Western abuse and exploitation, seem resigned to their place as second class citizens in the world’s capitalist system. Their abiding faith in Christianity is a reassuring salve for their fateful lot in life.
This solemn pride, dignity, warmth and religiosity can also be said for the vast majority of humanity’s souls, surviving in Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, Asia and Oceania. Some countries, like those in the Bolivarian Alliance (ALBA) in Latin America, have tried to stand up to Western colonialism via “democratic socialism”. But, as we have seen recently in Venezuela, Brazil and Argentina, the empire’s billions invested in destroying these peoples’ non-capitalist, middle-of-the-road paths to prosperity, have paid huge dividends for Western corporations and bankers.
The West never stops excoriating Cuba, China, North Korea and Eritrea for ridding their societies of what have been historically called “the bourgeoisie” and aristocratic locals, along with nationalizing all means of production. As Venezuela, Brazil, Argentina and every other country in the world that has tried, can attest, having a hybrid capitalist-socialist economy eventually gets gobbled up and subverted by the national elites. They have full Western backing, money, military and spy agency support, to make sure every nation’s 99%, except the aforementioned four, are brought to their knees and into servitude to Western colonialism.
Thus, absent parasitic local elites and Western colonialists sucking the country’s resources and citizens dry, we can all admire with a certain amount of envy, the amazing and continuous improvement in the lives, economy, infrastructure, research, development, science and technology in China, which is all for the benefit of the vast majority of the Chinese people. In writing my book, 44 Days https://ganxy.com/i/88276/, I traveled 12,500km overland in some of the poorest areas of China, and never saw the pervasive, subsistence poverty like I saw everywhere I went in the Philippines. Not that China does not have poverty. Using its communist system’s vast wealth, Baba Beijing is currently spending and investing up to RMB400 billion (US$60 billion), to lift the poorest 70-100 million citizens out of their economic plight, and ambitiously plans to do so by 2020. Most of them live in isolated mountains and valleys, in the lightly populated western half of the country, where I spent my 44-day journey.
Westerners are deluded and brainwashed into believing that thanks to capitalism, they have their great monuments, skyscrapers, plazas, parks, museums, infrastructure, prosperity, luxury and grotesque super-consumption. Wrong. They can live like the Hampshire hogs of humanity, only because of the larcenous extraction and exploitation of 15th-21st century imperialism and colonialism. In North America, Israel, Australia and New Zealand, the invading peoples’ wealth is doubly due to the genocidal theft of all the Native lands they now occupy. Paying nothing for precious land, water and all their rich resources is obscenely profitable, usuriously so.
So, who suffers the indignities, humiliation and hand-to-mouth existence of capitalism? The 30,000 children who die every day http://www.whatnewsshouldbe.org/front-page-news/11-million-kids-die-each-year-whose-deaths-could-have-easily-been-prevented for a lack of clean water, food, shelter and medical care, along with their surviving family members in Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, Asia and Oceania. These 30,000 young innocents, 11,000,000 per year who die like starved rats, really ought to be sacrificed on altars of expropriated super-consumption, their throats slit in ritualistic fashion on the National Mall in Washington, DC; Hyde Park in London and Place de la Concorde in Paris. Ten thousand children in each capital, slaughtered every sunrise, so that Westerners can continue to luxuriate like sated gods and goddesses. It should be the civic duty of every Eurangloland citizen to at least witness it once in their life, if not plunge the knife themselves in a sacrifice’s neck, as atonement for their vulgar excesses.
This my dear readers is the unspoken, Faustian pact of rich imperialists and poor capitalists.
