At four o’clock on Friday January 13th, watching the afternoon news shows out of the corner of one eye, I was thinking of writing a snide piece with the above title, but without the question mark: it was all so ridiculous, and we had been there so many times before!

At five o’clock I realized this story wasn’t funny anymore: a revered civil rights icon, Democratic Representative John Lewis was led, step by step by Chuck Todd on MSNBC to declare that he didn’t see Donald Trump as a legitimate president, after the Washington Post reported that the Trump transition team had been in telephone contact with the Russian presidency for weeks:

“WASHINGTON — President-elect Donald Trump’s national security adviser and Russia’s ambassador to the U.S. have been in frequent contact in recent weeks, including on the day the Obama administration hit Moscow with sanctions in retaliation for election-related hacking, a senior official said Friday.

Trump spokesman Sean Spicer acknowledged contacts between Michael Flynn and Ambassador Sergey Kislyak, but said a phone conversation occurred on Dec. 28, one day before the sanctions were levied. Spicer said the men did not discuss sanctions. He did not specifically deny additional contacts the following day. It’s not unusual for incoming administrations to have discussions with foreign governments before taking office. But the repeated contacts just as President Barack Obama imposed sanctions would raise questions about whether Trump’s team discussed — or even helped shape — Russia’s response to the penalties.”

John Lewis, a prominent Democrat and Black misleader, is adding his voice to the chorus of accusers falsely claiming that Russia meddled in the 2016 election, a disgrace that did not need foreign assistance to be a pathetic and irrefutable demonstration of US “democratic” bankruptcy. Says Bruce Dixon, Black Agenda Report Managing Editor:

Worst of all are Democrat stooges, especially black ones like John Lewis and Donna Brazile, who claim without need of any proof, that the Russians hacked the presidential election to install the Donald. These folks are clearly fronting for another, equally reprehensible faction of the US ruling elite, one that knows it can make a lot more money off a cold or hot war with Russia than they do off the shadowy “war against terror.”

What had been in the news until five o’clock were frantic calls for investigations — of the head of the FBI, James Comey, for supposedly ruining Hillary’s chances in the final week before the election — and of Russian influence on the election by the CIA, ordered by Barack Obama in the final days of his presidency, in a last-ditch attempt to salvage the neo-liberal order. Than all hell broke lose, as the news channels gleefully took revenge on the President-elect for roundly insulting them during a long-awaited press conference. A senior U.S. intelligence official admitted: “I don’t know what the end game is here. After Jan. 20, we’re in uncharted territory.”

What younger voters and foreign observers may not realize is that the current situation, while more vaudevillian, is not new. Going back to 1973 and the Watergate scandal that brought down the Nixon presidency, then the impeachment of Bill Clinton in the nineties, not to mention various other scandals that punctuated his two terms in office, the US has been careening ever closer to implosion, while touting to the world its ‘exceptional’ democracy.

Having lived in half a dozen countries on both sides of the Iron Curtain, I would venture to say that none share the American penchant for ‘investigations’.  Since the earliest days of the British colony, Americans have been obsessed with preserving themselves from everything foreign. If you were a Puritan who differed ever so slightly from John Winthrop’s religious interpretations, you were flung into the wilderness by the Massachusetts Bay Colony to cope with the Indians.  Very soon after independence, in 1798, Congress passed the Alien and Sedition Acts in response to French actions against US warships in its standoff with Great Britain. These laws included new powers to deport foreigners as well as making it harder for new immigrants to vote. The investigations currently being launched into events surrounding Donald Trump’s election and the lead-up to his swearing in are straight out of the historical American playbook. (There is a long list of expats who in every period have sought to escape the stifling atmosphere epitomized in the saying ‘as American as apple pie’…).

NBC’s MEET THE PRESS host Chuck Todd. The program on NBC network, like its siblings on other networks, is a glorified disinformation platform.

Ever since Donald Trump won the election on November 8th, Washington insiders have been seeking a way to prevent him from taking office. The reluctance of his designated Secretary of State to say really bad things about Vladimir Putin, with whom he has been doing business for years, has made a lot of people nervous — including major financiers, CEOs, defense contractors or the military. (Trump has said NATO has to be dismantled, just when it’s sitting pretty on Russia’s entire western border!). These people weren’t getting much traction until the appearance of Kremlin ‘tricks’, such as a power outage in Congress when the word ‘Russia’ was pronounced, and similar incidents which RT rewinds with glee. (RT also rebutted today with solid figures the attempt by official Washington, such as, yesterday James Clapper, to ‘reassure’ the public that the Russian English language channel has few viewers  — contradicting official references to ‘Putin’s bullhorn’ but never mind.  RT also rebutted point by point the Washington Post’s latest effort to discredit it. [The problem with these rebuttals is that the American media does not give them any currency, thereby maintaining the original lie propagated by the very people who are being asked to expose it!—Editor]

This brings me to a fact as yet undiscovered by American analysts: perhaps due to a century of opposition, left-wing regimes have developed a unique sense of humor — or perhaps, as I noticed when I spent two years in Cuba during the early phase of the revolution — humor is part of the revolutionary’s can-do attitude.  As I write in my book, Cuba A Diary of the Revolution, Fidel, Raul and Che all exhibited a bracing ability to blunt attacks with deprecation.  A clip of Vladimir Putin reacting to pranks attributed to Russia in Washington with a mischievous smile suggests that humor may be the most overlooked characteristic of revolutionaries. The “Russia did it’ meme, combined with the massive presence of armed-to-the-hilt NATO troops on Russia’s border may have created a psychological situation that President Putin could not resist meeting with pranks. By getting the attention of people who may not normally follow foreign affairs as to the ridiculousness of the accusations against Russia, he will do more damage to US credibility than any amount of fact-filled rebuttals about who the aggressor is.

Humor, however, will not change the ‘reality-on-the-ground’: a no holds barred campaign is under way in the US and among our European vassals to prepare the public for a knock-down drag out battle for ‘the heartland’ https://www.albert.io/…/heartland-theory-ap-human-geography-crash-co…that contains the minerals the world will need if it survives the century.

A day or two ago, the leader of the French national-right party, Marine Le Pen was spotted in Trump Towers, and today, prominent right-wing Danish blogger Iben Thranholm told RT that her government had put her on a list of Russian agents, along with the rest of the European New Right (http://otherjonesii.blogspot.com/search?q=European+New+Right)

With January 20th fast approaching, will the US be able to build the ‘Russians did it’ meme into something so scary that the Supreme Court votes unanimously to stop the inauguration and order a new election? The ‘Justices’ handed the Presidency to George W Bush, didn’t they?

She began her journalistic career at the French News Agency in Rome, spent two years in Cuba finding out whether the Barbados were Communists before they made the revolution (‘Cuba 1964: When the Revolution was Young’). After spending half a decade in Eastern Europe, and a decade in the U.S., studying Global Survival and writing speeches in the Carter State Department, she wrote the only book that foresaw the fall of the Berlin Wall AND the dissolution of the Soviet Union (“Une autre Europe, un autre Monde’). Her memoir, ‘Lunch with Fellini, Dinner with Fidel’, tells it all. ‘A Taoist Politics: The Case for Sacredness’, which examines the similarities between ancient wisdom and modern science and what this implies for political activism; and ‘America Revealed to a Honey-Colored World” is a pamphlet about how the U.S. came down from the City on a Hill’.
