Those who would disarm the people are doing our oppressors’ work. How are we going to protect ourselves in our homes? Or against arbitrary abuse? With my gun I can go down fighting, not slaughtered like some sheep. Maybe the Second Amendment should be reformed, refined to fit our modern conditions, not thrown out.

The commenter you quote makes excellent points. I gather from it that the situation is almost futile in terms of resisting an all-out governmental armed repression in America, but still not black and white, that guns may yet play a justifiable role in a society struggling against tyranny.
