In his zeal to prove to his antagonists in the War Party that he is as bloodthirsty as their champion, Hillary Clinton, and more manly than Barack Obama, Trump seems to have gone “play-crazy” — acting like an unpredictable maniac in order to terrorize the Russians into forcing some kind of dramatic concessions from their Syrian allies, or risk Armageddon.However, the “play-crazy” gambit can only work when the leader is, in real life, a disciplined and intelligent actor, who knows precisely what actual boundaries must not be crossed. I remember Mother Jones roots, an outgrowth of the radical Ramparts. Its editors soon became tepid non-radicals. But why? And why are they now on the side of the Obama-Clinton Establishment as so many other self-styled “progressives” like The Nation, several “peace” groups, even the so-called Communist Party? No American living today knows what socialism is. The must come to Europe and learn. It still exists here in various people driven movements, and it is even faintly alive in Scandinavia.
I fully agree to your first statement. As for the learning phase here in Europe? Now, where might that be? Yes indeed, it is faintly alive here where I reside in Switzerland, but I cannot dialogue with myself.
We all feel this immense isolation everywhere in the “developed West”, and it’s probably creeping into Latin American society, too as we speak, as the current regies in Ecuador, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, etc., wok to roll back whatever advances took place in recent memory by more left-leaning governments. US-style Totalitarian capitalist culture is very effective at erasing consciousness of what matters, even in places where reality seems impossible to avoid.
