Finally a break for the hens—not much, but something to cheer—Vegan Just Egg to Make Its Debut at Veggie Grill and Retailers, Like Wegmans, Across the U.S.

HELP ENLIGHTEN YOUR FELLOWS. BE SURE TO PASS THIS ON. SURVIVAL DEPENDS ON IT.

PEOPLE GO ABOUT EATING CHICKENS AND MAKING SCRAMBLED EGGS AS IF THEY GREW ON TREES, BUT OF COURSE THEY DON'T.
Now there's hope they may.

Although new meat and dairy alternatives are showing up all the time, there remain few products which imitate scrambled eggs, and that is where JUST Foods (formerly Hampton Creek) has stepped in and created Just Egg, a scrambled egg alternative that looks and cooks like the real thing. And now they are partnering with plant-based restaurant Veggie Grill to bring Just Egg to consumers!

Made from mung beans, the 100 percent plant-based product is free of antibiotics and cholesterol, has far less of an environmental impact than eggs produced on factory farms, and is said to mimic actual scrambled eggs. On July 12th, Veggie Grill will be featuring Just Egg in their first all-day breakfast item, a breakfast burrito made with “chorizo”, black beans, cheddar “cheese”, home fries, and fire-roasted salsa in a toasted tortilla. As the leading plant-based fast-casual restaurant chain in the U.S., Veggie Grill has the potential to introduce the Just Egg product to so many new consumers across the nation.

JUST co-founder and CEO Josh Tetrick reminisced and explained why he is so excited to partner with Veggie Grill. “I remember working on plans for JUST over sandwiches and tea at Veggie Grill in Santa Monica more than six years ago and I’m humbled and proud to partner with them on the launch of their all-day Breakfast Burrito … Veggie Grill’s success and the excitement around Just Egg make clear that a growing number of consumers want to feed their families food that is not only delicious but better for them and better for the planet. We’re thrilled to help them do that.”

Just Egg has already been met with much success, with the company noting that restaurants that added the product to their menus have been rewarded with increased sales. One of their early restaurant partners reported a 42 percent increase in egg-related sales since adding Just Egg to their menu, and another restaurant reported that 30 percent of their egg-related sales were made with Just Egg.

Tetrick also recently tweeted that the company has started retail production of Just Egg. According to their website, the product has already been approved for sale in Wegmans and a number of other local retailers!

Workers who make this possible.

Don’t have a Veggie Grill near you? Fear not, as JUST has set up a consumer action microsite to lend consumers a voice in demanding their favorite establishments start carrying Just Egg. You can check out the site here.

Industrialized animal agriculture is responsible for mass deforestation, species extinction, gross air and water pollution, and climate change, and it contributes more greenhouse gas emissions than the entire transportation sector combined. Considering all this, Just Egg has the potential to be a major game-changer in the food space and help consumers lessen the impact of their carbon footprint.

Things to ponder

While our media prostitutes, many Hollywood celebs, and politicians and opinion shapers make so much noise about the still to be demonstrated damage done by the Russkies to our nonexistent democracy, this is what the sanctimonious US government has done overseas just since the close of World War 2. And this is what we know about. Many other misdeeds are yet to be revealed or documented.

Parting shot—a word from the editors
The Best Definition of Donald Trump We Have Found

In his zeal to prove to his antagonists in the War Party that he is as bloodthirsty as their champion, Hillary Clinton, and more manly than Barack Obama, Trump seems to have gone “play-crazy” — acting like an unpredictable maniac in order to terrorize the Russians into forcing some kind of dramatic concessions from their Syrian allies, or risk Armageddon. However, the “play-crazy” gambit can only work when the leader is, in real life, a disciplined and intelligent actor, who knows precisely what actual boundaries must not be crossed. That ain’t Donald Trump — a pitifully shallow and ill-disciplined man, emotionally handicapped by obscene privilege and cognitively crippled by white American chauvinism. By pushing Trump into a corner and demanding that he display his most bellicose self, or be ceaselessly mocked as a “puppet” and minion of Russia, a lesser power, the War Party and its media and clandestine services have created a perfect storm of mayhem that may consume us all.
