Excellent Comments: Communism the most reliable path to universal justice and human solidarity
From time to time we distinguish reader comments for their exceptional lucidity and moral purview
[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he Left has been successfully fractured and neutered since WWII, and the many New Deal gains, which were basically forced on the Democrats and FDR by socialists and communists, have been systematically chipped away. It is hardly a surprise that articles like this are being written. People who take the time to think about things, such as Jeff Brown, of China Rising Radio, who started out as a typical American but now also support Communism (if I may put words in his mouth) have looked at our current situation and dug into the history and context. Communism for all its faults in the USSR (which were largely the result of Western fascist sabotage) is more likely to solve humanity’s problems than capitalism.
I once had the opportunity to speak to a pretty high ranking Chinese official. Someone told me he was in the Chinese version of the CIA. He asked me what I thought of Marx. I haven’t read much Marx, however, as a student of Buddhism, I said that the ideal Buddhist works to ‘save all beings’, that is, everybody deserves and eventually achieves Nirvana, the highest state of existence. Communism, I said, works to the same end on a social and cultural level, where everyone is treated fairly so we all prosper together at nobody’s expense. Win Win. Which is exactly the opposite of Western Zero sum, “Heads I win, tails you lose.” It is no accident that some of the greatest musicians came from Soviet Russia, where people actually got support to create beauty, not gadgets.
Point being, from what I see, all religions aim towards the betterment of all beings in their purest sense, but like many institutions, become corrupt or taken over by psychopaths. This leads me to the conclusion that human DNA at its root is motivated by kindness and generosity. Otherwise, moms would eat their babies, which take time to feed and cleanup after. Family is the ultimate Communist society. We just need to expand our idea of ‘Family’ to include ‘all beings’.
As for tactics and strategy. Gabbard and Gravel have the most clearly stated positions on war, which to me is the major priority now. People criticize them as being sheepdog s for the Democrats, which may be so. But as Lefty Math Professor points out, there is a continuum of consciousness, and ANY contribution towards socialist/communist ideals is useful. As he says, at least Sanders raised the issue of inequality, if not imperialism per se.
So yeah, let each person interpret socialism/communism as s/he sees it, let’s talk about it and move forward. Inside or outside of the Democrats/Greens/ Socialist Equality parties or outside of electoral politics. That is what social movements are about anyway. Party politics are only tools/expressions of collective will.
