Too bad they can’t sanction the Biden foreign policy hawks, too: China announces sanctions against ‘lying and cheating’ outgoing Trump officials

China has said it wants to cooperate with Joe Biden’s new US administration, while announcing sanctions against the “lying and cheating” outgoing secretary of state Mike Pompeo and 27 other top officials under Donald Trump.

The move was a sign of China’s anger, especially at an accusation Pompeo made on his final full day in office that China had committed genocide against its Uighur Muslims, an assessment that Biden’s choice to succeed Pompeo, Anthony Blinken, said he shared.

In a striking repudiation of its relationship with Washington under Trump, the Chinese foreign ministry announced the sanctions in a statement that appeared on its website as Biden was taking the presidential oath.

(Editor's Note: As expressed in many articles in this publication, we do not expect the Biden admin, whose foreign policy team is packed with unrepentant neocons, to change the US posture toward China (let alone Russia or Iran) in any substantive way. In fact, given the disarray in the empire and its tangible decline, these people could make it worse. US foreign policy is a product of deep state considerations, so it's fully bipartisan. It's what the billionaire cliques that control the US government want, and that rarely changes when a new administration takes power. Hostility toward China, a nation that by its sheer peaceful success challenges Washington's global hegemony, is already cataloged as a "national security threat"—something that comes easy in the corridors of US power where the slightest obstacle to full dominance by the US plutocrats is immediately regarded as a "national threat" (and so is sold to the clueless populace). China probably knows quite well that she can expect America's hybrid war against Beijing to continue unabated, and perhaps intensify. With oodles of money at its disposal, and zero accountability, we can only guess what other repulsive and reckless maneuvers our government is planning as we write these lines, all to check China's rapid ascent, if not destroy her altogether. Of course, that's not going to happen. China has reached a state of strategic development that insures mutual and complete destruction of the US homeland if the corrupt cliques in Washington should try anything truly insane.—Ed.)
