Hamas retaliates after Israel attack destroys Gaza residential tower

We don't trust Ajazeera completely but they are a damn sight better than their Western mainstream counterparts. In this segment, look for the analysis of the situation by Al Jazeera's Gaza chief correspondent Marwan Bishara (Arabic: مروان بشارة‎). He comes on around 23:51. Bishara is a Palestinian journalist and Al Jazeera English's senior political analyst and the editor and host of Empire, which examines global powers and their agendas. Bishara has little difficulty clarifying the situation on the ground, and smashing the ludicrous notion spread by most Western journalists that Hamas and the Gaza strip—a tightly controlled and cutoff zone lacking a navy, and air force, armor or advanced weapons—all of which Israel has, besides being a nuclear power, represent a comparable military opponent to Israel.

The Israeli military continued to bombard the besieged Gaza Strip on Tuesday, targeting several areas after rockets were fired from the enclave. Health authorities in Gaza said at least 28 Palestinians – including 10 children – were killed in Israeli air raids on the strip since late on Monday after Hamas launched rockets from the coastal territory towards Israel. The rocket fire came after Hamas, which rules Gaza, issued an ultimatum demanding Israel stand down its security forces from the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in occupied East Jerusalem after days of violence against Palestinians. The Israeli police stormed the compound on Monday for a third consecutive day, firing rubber-coated bullets, stun grenades and tear gas at Palestinian worshippers inside the mosque in the final days of the holy month of Ramadan. More than 700 Palestinians were hurt in Jerusalem and across the occupied West Bank in recent days.

The 12-story tower, part of which was used by Hamas officials, collapsed following multiple explosions. Residents of the block had reportedly been warned to evacuate.
