Social-Democracy doesn’t fix capitalism, it just perpetuates it, notes The Finnish Bolshevik

In his chat, the author reminds us that social democracy is a self-canceling thing, as the reins of power remain in capitalist hands.

Social democracy is merely a ruse to deflect and stop people from undertaking a revolutionary program to attain socialism. That's why it is a softer form of capitalism, welfare capitalism, as some have aptly called it. Many good things in social democracy, from healthcare, (relatively) free education , employment benefits, etc. are nothing but temporary concessions of the capitalist ruling class to the masses to keep them from veering toward radical politics and truly effective solutions.

The video packs an excellent discussion of how the originally public healthcare system has been systematically undermined by the ruling capitalists in an effort to privatise it. Firstly, they have created a parallel private, for profit medical system that claims to offer people "choice". Yea, freedom and all that. Second, they constantly and underhandedly defund the public system, forcing closures of clinics and facilities, demoralising the staff, while creating a gradual feeling of dissatisfaction with the whole setup.

It is worth noting that the exact same cynical approach has been put in practice in Britain to eventually do away with the NHS. The Finnish Bolshevik also notes that many advances granted by the capitalists in Finland, Sweden, etc, were introduced due to fear by the ruling elites of a powerful existing socialist system next door in the Soviet Union. Wen the SU began to falter and eventually dissolved, many benefits and advantages given to the masses were almost immediately withdrawn. Such a process continues. So, social democracy is going away, they're going to privatise healthcare. Let the "freedom of choice model" win. Except that it costs a lot of money. 

In sum, social democracy is not a sustainable model.  It is simply a way for the capitalists to fool the people and keep them from supporting actual change. It was possible for only a brief period of time as a byproduct of communism.
