Quan, a member of the China Writers Group I belong to, has sent the following message: Dear CWG,  Today, Monday August 2-2021 is to be remembered ! HMS Queen Elizabeth did not dare enter Chinese waters in the South China Sea after China's stern warnings & US' disapproval...And this is happening 72 years & 2 days after the end of the Amethyst incident. On April 30, 1949, the Chinese Communists demanded that Britain, the United States and France withdraw quickly their armed forces from any part of China The so-called Amethyst incident (lasting almost 3 months, from April 20-1949 to July 31-1949) involving HMS Amethyst, HMS Consort, HMS London & HMS Black Swan and during which Commander Ye Fei (1914-1999) of the PLA kept the HMS Amethyst under guard for 10 weeks for having wrongly invaded Chinese national waters. The Amethyst managed to escape on July 30-1949 and met with HMS Concord on July 31-1949. But the CPC made its point about Chinese sovereignty. This event is the true birthday gift for the 100th anniversary of the Communist Party of China aka the CPC. Tot Ziens ! Quan

And a reminder of China's rapidly expanding military power. As the Sino-Russian axis grows in strategic capabilities, the ability of the US empire to provoke a major war diminishes.

Britain has said it has no plans to stage a naval confrontation with China in the South China Sea and that it aims to send its carrier strike group in the most direct route across the contested body of water from Singapore to the Philippine Sea.

The cooling message emerged hours after China’s military and state media warned the UK against provocation as the group, led by Royal Navy aircraft carrier Queen Elizabeth, undertakes what had been expected to be a more assertive deployment.

British defence sources said HMS Queen Elizabeth would sail “tens of miles away” from the disputed Spratly and Paracel Islands, which are claimed by China. The aircraft carrier and allied ships entered the South China Sea earlier this week and are expected to leave by the end of Saturday.
