(1) It must be noted that media, which is both owned by and owner of huge conglomerates in practically every industrial and financial sector, plays a critical role in maintaining political legitimacy for the reigning oligarchy. The media is obviously a business, and under capitalist rules it follows its naturally unethical dynamic. The same can be said for the US political class, the system's "ostensible managers", concentrated in the national Congress, who themselves largely constitute a fake-democratic bloc doing the bidding of the corporate rich. Ultimately, however, the American (and world) economy in "the West" is owned and controlled by a tiny group of financial blocs and billionaires. These are the actual face of global neoliberalism, the people who control the destinies of all nations still in the US-led bloc, and the people who also tell the Pentagon, CIA, FBI, NSA and the rest of the alphabet salad of "national security" agencies what to do and where to go. Their precise identities, of course, remain, by and large, unknown, a matter of conjecture to most Americans.
