This new electric truck is better than Tesla’s semi-truck. Tesla Semi update turns out unexpected because this new electric Semi truck is better as Farizon Auto has unveiled its new next-generation smart energy semi-truck, the Homtruck. And even though production and first deliveries of the truck are planned for early 2024, in terms of similarities, it's already giving Tesla's Semi a run for their money. Once first deliveries begin, Farizon Auto says the Homtruck will be one of the most advanced and cleanest commercial vehicles on the road. It focuses on efficiency, and driver and pedestrian safety and boasts breakthroughs in sustainable powertrains. Considering their looks, you'll get a pass for the obvious comparisons to Tesla's Semi. So let's see what makes The Homtruck better than Tesla's Semi.
Truck drivers around the world spend a considerable amount of time in their vehicles, often more so than at home. The mobile space created by the Homtruck integrates work, life, and entertainment to satisfy the needs of its drivers. The cockpit includes both a driving and a living area, with the latter consisting of a bathroom complete with a shower and toilet, a single bed, refrigerator, tea maker, kitchen, and even a small washing machine.
The prototype’s cockpit includes an ergonomic seat design and high-definition cameras that leverage AI to monitor every angle outside the vehicle. Eventually, according to the company’s timeline, Geely wants to offer a self-driving version of the tractor, which would debut with some driver assisting features before moving to Level 4 autonomy.
The division’s CEO Mike Fan told CNBC in an interview that Geely intends to introduce autonomous driving in three phases, with goals of having some partial driverless features by 2023. More advanced systems will follow in 2026, and as part of its grand plan, Geely wants to achieve full autonomy in 2030.
The impressive quality and price competitiveness of China's new cars and trucks could easily wipe out Western automotive production, along with Japan's and Korea's. That's why China's high-end products are carefully controlled by a global neoliberal regime that proclaims its trust in free markets.
The Homtruck would be able to utilize L4 hands-off autonomous drive functions on some routes, according to Geely’s plans. It would also feature a platooning function that could allow multiple tractor-trailers to communicate with each other to maintain safe speed and distance, which would lower operator stress levels. Hardware sensors such as lidar, millimeter-wave radar, and ultrasonic radar would come standard on the equipment. It would also be outfitted with 5G and V2X communication systems. Farizon would offer over-the-air software upgrades.
From a design standpoint, the cabin goes for an eco-friendly ambiance inspired by China’s bamboo forests thanks to materials like natural soft-touch fabrics, sustainable plastics, and bamboo grain materials. Geely says the Homtruck will target global markets like Europe, Korea, Japan, and North America, making the all-electric variant a rival for the Tesla Semi.
Furthermore, after studying the needs of independent commercial vehicle drivers and fleet operators, Farizon Auto’s engineers developed impressive hardware and software solutions to provide greater efficiencies throughout the network. For example, the Homtruck can connect to the logistics network’s big data platforms to help drivers obtain the most optimal orders in real-time, analyze and track deliveries, and calculate operating costs along the routes.
