RUNNING UPDATES ON THE CONFLICT IN UKRAINE – The Counteroffensive in Kherson That Never Was
Aearnur's Newsletter
The long-awaited Ukrainian counteroffensive in the Kherson region of Ukraine has already run into problems. It is rumored that the Ukrainian high command were against this offensive but that Zelensky insisted that it go ahead, the reason being that Ukraine’s vendors/sponsors meeting on September 8th needed to be shown that the Ukrainian military was still able to achieve something. Instead of which this doomed campaign is rapidly turning into a bloodbath and debacle.
An assault by two groups of Ukrainian special forces to take the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, the largest in Europe, failed dismally with over 200 crack Ukrainian troops killed. It is suspected that Russia was informed in advance of the plan and so was able to maximise the casualties. This was done by allowing the first assault of 60 troops to land (by boat across the Dniepr River) which was supposed to secure the plant. Then when the major contingent of 200 or so troops attempted to make the crossing an hour later they were totally wiped out.
On the main front of the counteroffensive, we now hear that all the minor gains made by the Ukrainians have been reversed with heavy losses to their forces (they have no air or artillery cover to protect them) a contingent who have made their way some distance to take two small villages are now trapped by Russian forces with no way back across the river. Up to four thousand men appear to be surrounded in what the Russians call a cauldron where they are being shelled and bombed to oblivion. Their only choice now is whether to die or surrender.
For in-depth coverage of the events of today and some discussion on the botched attempt to take back the nuclear power plant watch this discussion between Alexander Mercouris and Alex Christoforou of ‘The Duran’.
In addition, the following video analysis by Alexander Mercouris of ‘The Duran’ provides more up-to-date information on the events of the day and the increasingly shaky position of the Zelensky regime in Ukraine.
There can be little doubt that the so-called Kherson Counteroffensive by the Kiev regime will be a failure but there is no sign that despite the immense losses in men and materiel it will end any time soon. It appears still more troops, many ill-trained and walking into battle in amateurish upright position are being used as cannon-fodder in a futile attempt to retain some semblance of being able to achieve something.
It appears inevitable that all they will achieve is to reach the hell of a battlefront where they stand virtually naked in military terms exposed to being destroyed. In a term sometimes used in the U.S. military I believe, the present circumstance for the Russians in killing these men is like shooting fish in a barrel. Yet there appears to be no compassion spent in Kiev for these troops sent to their deaths and facing death by their own side if they refuse.
The ‘Military Summary’ channel is considered one of the premier sites for mapping the Ukrainian battlefield. Its narrator, Dima specialises in detailed analysis of tactics being used by both sides and takes great care in his predictions for future tactical ploys that will shape future scenarios. This is his analysis of the events of 02.09.2022:
