ABOVE: Hillary, as usual, being an unrepentant and unreconstructed member of the US imperialist clique, has a conveniently twisted and ultimately false version of history. She says casually, for example, speaking of the Russians, "They invaded Afghanistan...and we didn't want to see them control Central Asia." This is a lie. As in Ukraine and, the US effectively provoked a Soviet intervention. First, by fomenting an insurgency feeding weapons to the rural warlords bitterly opposed to the communist, modernising government in Kabul which was involved in an ambitious program to bring the nation into the 20th century. These projects involved the stamping out of illiteracy, plus free education for all up to college level; giving women far ampler rights; infrastructural works, free medical services for all, especially in remote areas where no doctors or clinics had ever operated, and so on.  The communist government in Kabul had come to power through a nationalist revolution, an internal matter. The Soviets intervened only after Kabul requested their help to neutralise the Mujahedin reactionaries supported by the CIA and the Pakistani ISI, a situation that also threatened the planting of fiercely anti-Soviet regimes in Moscow's underbelly.

Women under Communist rule, before the victory of the US-backed Mujahedin. Their dress and behaviour, and their new freedoms, emulating their liberated sisters in the West, infuriated the country's reactionaries making CIA penetration all that easier.

NOTE: If you use the Internet search engines to look for the truth about Afghan history, especially relating to the Soviet-Afghan alliance, you'll probably find only tendentious, filthy lies, typical of what entities like Google dish out to any unsuspecting soul. Here's an example:
