I remember how the Biden administration (and the CIA) surprised me when they decided to strongly back Lula against the attempted coup by Bolsonaro, shortly after the election. I wouldn’t give up on Lula just yet. He may have indeed had to agree to a number of concessions in order to make sure that the US backed his election victory and did not back Bolsonaro and send the country into civil war.
