Chris Hedges ANALYZES Robert F. Kennedy Jr. 2024 (Interview Clip)

Chris Hedges is not terribly impressed with RFK Jr's spiel, as it relies on shopworn myths of exceptionalism. For one thing, says Hedges, the US was founded by aristocrats who feared democracy, and took care to establish a solid system of control to prevent the hoi polloi, and even women, from using the voting franchise to alter the balance of power between classes. Secondly, planning to appeal to Democrats without criticizing the party is a recipe for failure. The Dems have not been just accomplices, but the main actors in betraying the country's working masses, and pushing the world to the edge of nuclear war. The Dems' betrayals are numerous, from NAFTA to Medicare for All, minimum wage (forever promised and never delivered), and even the abortion rights issue, which they purposely failed to use as a perennial lure at election time against the Repubs. And it was Bill Clinton, not a Repub, who eviscerated the welfare legislation protecting the most vulnerable in American society.  Obama then actually amplified all those betrayals, starting wars, and adding serious attacks on constitutional liberties, now being used by the totalitarian Biden to repress dissent under the phony pretext of defending the public from disinformation. In addition, the Democrats are today's war party. It was the Dems who launched and profited greatly from Russiagate, which they continue to milk to feed the fires of the Ukraine War, also provoked by the Dems/Neocon cliques. Most crucially, Hedges and Sabby fear that Kennedy will ultimately pull an 11th-hour Bernie, by folding his campaign with a plea to support Biden. That is the big question that everyone should be asking RFK, Jr,  and that he should answer without further equivocation....Should RFK, Jr pass these tests, he will still have to face a mainstream media solidly aligned against his candidacy, as already seen in the way the New York Times defines his challenge as coming from "an anti-vaxxer" crackpot. Ultimately, the media will play the "fear factor"—you can't support anyone but Biden because you'll get Trump. In sum, Hedges argues that RFK, Jr. is not speaking truth to the nation by burning incense to old myths of moral superiority and exceptionalism. The time has come to outgrow such myths, and we need politicians who do that, not more guardians of the old fraudulent religion.
