Solidarity with the poor and the weak includes our moral duty of protection and compassion toward animals, the most helpless sentient beings of all.

The reason is obvious. Using sentient creatures for amusement in spectacles of deliberate cruelty like these testifies to the ability of humans to inflict any kind of suffering on helpless beings for the sake of vainglory.

Humankind’s repulsive arrogance, carelessly and cruelly using and abusing others, is loathsome. Our deluded perception that we are more evolved or intelligent or otherwise superior infuriates and disgusts me. To find amusement or pleasure in inflicting such hideous and deliberate harm upon others is unconscionable

Revolting practice. For all the virtue signalling the EU does, they haven't had the balls to forbid Spain this barbaric custom. It's also worth noting that animal rights groups are now among the most powerful in Spain, in all of Europe, yet maybe 1/3 of the country is stuck on this "tradition".   Hemingway and his fascination with bullfights, and the 20% of tourists who mention bullfights as a reason to visit Spain also contribute to the power of this malignant lobby.

But there's hope, even when traditions are extremely hard to dislodge.

Thousands demand bullfighting ban in Spain protest march.

Five years ago, thousands of people gathered in Madrid's Puerta del Sol on Saturday to protest against the country's bullfighting tradition. Several hundred activists came from across Spain to participate in the demo which was organised by the Spanish animal rights political party, PACMA. Protesters held up handkerchiefs similar to those used in the San Fermin festivities in Pamplona, which include a bull run and bullfight. Campaigners are demanding the end of bullfig++hting in Spain, especially the so-called becerradas, which uses young calves rather than adult bulls. Protests continue to this day, albeit the media's obsession with the Ukraine war has put many important topics on the back burner.

Thank you for visiting our animal defence section. Before leaving, please join us in a moment of compassion and reflection.

The wheels of business and human food compulsions are implacable and totally lacking in compassion. This is a downed cow, badly hurt, but still being dragged to slaughter. Click on this image to fully appreciate this horror repeated millions of times every day around the world. With plentiful non-animal meat substitutes that fool the palate, there is no longer any reason for this enormous senseless suffering. Meat consumption is a serious ecoanimal crime. The tyranny of the palate must be broken. Please consider changing your habits in this regard.
