Carlo is right in this discussion. Because everything we believe in and do is filtered down from elite behavior and thinking. In other words, we all live a lie and have consciously or unconsciously suppressed the real. The real as it is lived daily by those peoples who are openly oppressed and cut off from Western bourgeois life. We are all forced into the sanctimoniousness and dishonesty that allows us to subsist.
