Woke Imperialists still trying to muzzle Twitter using the “anti-semitism” card

The "anti-semitism" charge is supposed to be the ultimate weapon to kick someone out of "civilised society" and that includes banning them, de facto, from political office and/or ruining them financially. Just witness what they did to Jeremy Corbyn, a model of decency but obviously not enough of a dirty fighter to defend himself against the obscene tsunami of accusations the British establishment hurled at his record to bury his bid to lead the Labour party. (These days a useless, sellout party just like the Democrats in the USA).

The problem is that anti-semitism has been cynically weaponised and over-utilised, exploiting a longstanding definitional confusion, such confusion ably nurtured by Israel and her Hasbara legion of apologists (this has been actually admitted). Yet, as rational people know, criticising Israel for its obvious depraved treatment of Palestinians does not make anyone "anti Jewish",  but simply anti-Zionist and anti-Apartheid, someone standing against oppression and institutionalised injustice, a legitimate and honorable position. There are literally millions of moral, religious, and secular Jews who oppose Zionism on such grounds.

It is useful to keep in mind that hypocritical censorship is the rage in the EU, with the ruling cliques of France and Germany, to their shame, leading the pack in all sorts of attacks on Free Speech. In Britain the situation is getting worse by the day, as that "cradle of democracy" has eroded mightily in the last few decades (witness what they did to Julian Assange, for starters, and the dilapidated condition of the British working class), while in America the field is at least still being contested, thanks, probably, to the First Amendment, which establishmentarians continue to chisel away, openly and covertly, while many Americans, perhaps sensing what this Constitutional right is all about, refuse to abandon to the tender mercies of a cynical woke imperialism.

Now, observe the sequence below.—PG

  • Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo says she's leaving X after 14 years on the platform.
  • In a lengthy farewell post, she said the platform has become a "gigantic global sewer."
  • Hildago is the latest public figure to criticize the platform's leadership under Elon Musk.

Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo says she's leaving X after more than 14 years on the platform, formerly known as Twitter.

In a lengthy statement shared on X and through the French news outlet Le Monde on Monday, Hidalgo highlighted a long list of issues that she says plague the platform — including anti-semitism, misinformation, and attacks on women, scientists, and environmentalists — and said X was "an impressive tool for destroying our democracies."

"This platform and its owner intentionally exacerbates tensions and conflicts," she wrote in French, adding that the platform has "become a gigantic global sewer."

"To remain true to my convictions and my commitment, I am leaving Twitter today," Hidalgo wrote on Monday. Her post has been liked more than 2,700 times.

An early proponent of Twitter, Hidalgo joined the platform in 2009 when she was the deputy mayor of Paris. One of her first tweets was an invitation to Paris residents to join a dialogue session.

Hidalgo, who has over 1.5 million followers on X, wrote that she would remain on other platforms "in which respectful exchanges can still take place," referring to her accounts on social media rivals Instagram, WhatsApp, Facebook, and LinkedIn.

Her departure adds to the growing chorus of public figures criticizing the management and direction of X under Elon Musk.

Musk has faced considerable backlash after endorsing an antisemitic post on X on November 16. His actions drew condemnation from figures including long-time Tesla investor Ross Gerber and Facebook cofounder Dustin Moskovitz.

The ongoing controversy has led to corporate fallout for X, with major companies like Apple, IBM, and Disney pulling their ads from the platform. This exodus could potentially cost X up to $75 million in ad revenue by the end of 2023, according to The New York Times.

Hidalgo's X account was still online as of 11 p.m. EST. Hidalgo did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Business Insider sent outside regular business hours.

Musk's sudden pilgrimage to Israel to hear Netanyahu's mendacious and transparently self-serving spiel on the Zionist massacre of Palestinians. Did he really need to do that, considering how overwhelmingly obliging the Western media has been toward the Israeli position? No. But it's all about public contrition, a la HUAC, photo ops, plain old p.r.  Opportunism. Kowtowing to Netanyahu, as repugnant a sociopath as anyone can imagine, befits a capricious billionaire who, after all is said and done, remains true to his interests and class instincts. Not to mention he's playing with a dangerous mafia.

In any case, it took the US empire and its fatuous corporate civilisation 100 years or more to fully ossify the notion that any major political player, with an enormous and supposedly competent staff, actually needs a firsthand in-person "fact-finding" trip to some forlon place to ascertain "the truth" about a certain situation. That's why US Congress critters are constantly flying around the globe as if a confrontation with the truth (carefully camouflaged in most of these occasions) would have a chance in hell of changing their made-up minds.  Genuine democrats (small "d"), anti-imperialists, and free speech partisans of all stripes are expecting the worst.

SO...what is going on?

Several possible explanations.
