Ritter is right of course. But there is more to the Nuland dismissal than just Ukraine. And that is Trump who wants cooperation with Russia as he clearly stated. US’ prestige and therefore its power is severely damaged by Ukraine and Gaza and its foreign policy needs to be reoriented towards a new neoliberalism and a more pseudo-diplomatic direction. The present cooling off is an insurance policy against Trump, to catch him at his own game and the demise of the old war horse Nuland is one of its factors.
On the other hand, it is obvious that Trump is slowly being domesticated by watering down his fictitious legal troubles (except for the enormous dollar fines in New Yok which will keep him in line). His once arousing speeches are becoming the usual political babble and thus tamed by the establishment, he will follow status quo instructions even though with some resistance. But that is good as it shows the mythical freedom of speech (but not of thought). Thus, the elites insure against social progress in a so-called oldest democracy.
