Of cultural interest. Think what you will of these parades, but remember these are the people who kicked the Empire's butt in 1975, forcing it to flee their land in a not-too-dignified manner, a prolog to the Afghanistan embarrassment, I guess. The first video commentary, filed by a Chinese netizen, is especially instructive. To date, China, Vietnam, Afghanistan, North Korea, and now, in a special category, Russia, in an existential liberation war—are the only nations that have beaten the Hegemon at the military game. And in each case, the Hegemon came to their doorstep with malign intent. Each of these countries can boast thousands if not millions of heroes.

Hell March - Vietnam Armed Forces parade in 2015 to celebrate 70th year of independence. As a Chinese veteran, I salute to Vietnam military service members. They are fearless and tough. The major General of the group army where I served was a survivor of China-Vietnam war during 1980s. Even our division equipped with far better arms and more sufficient supplies, the division still suffer heavy loss and casualties. But now land boarders dispute been settled between China and Vietnam. Its an era of peace and cooperation. Best wishes from China!

Even in the ‘socialist republic’, some are more equal than others as this headline attests: ‘Vietnamese tourist in Thailand reunited with his lost $194,000 Richard Mille watch’ (Yahoo, 3 February, 2023).
That was an engineered “plant” by Western intel. The media of course picked it up. Yahoo is a notorious Big Tech collaborator with the empire. Having said this, anything s possible. Vietnam is socialist, not communist. In socialism, contrary to ignorant assumptions about socialism producing instant equality, society retains income differentials and (depending on the movement that overthrew capitalism), even forms of capitalism, sup to networks of merchants and small business.
