Despite the endorsement of celebrities—Susan Sarandon, Annie Lenox, et al—Clare Daly lost her seat at the EU. Her independence, and her fierce criticisms of Israel and US imperialism support for the Ukraine War, plus scathing attacks on the scoundrel media, sealed her fate. While they were to many an example of principled politics, the Irish media painted her and Mick Wallace as "an embarrassment and a disgrace" to Ireland. Sabby also speculates that Europe's swing to the right may have doomed people perceived as "left".
