[dropcap]P[/dropcap]olitical instability in Ukraine is exerting impact on relations with the US and is raising the risk of disruption of US aid to Kiev, First Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada, Andriy Parubiy said on Thursday
“We can state quite frankly that the instability in Ukraine is breeding a kind of cool-off on the part of the US,” he told Ukrinform news agency. “The Americans are worried by political instability and they speak about it openly.”
Parubiy admitted Kiev found it increasingly difficult to provide arguments for convincing the US of the necessity of more aid.
“Many people in the US who feel skeptical thus get an additional proof of Ukraine’s inability to conduct reforms,” he said. “It’s replaying the errors of 2005. We can potentially feel that if the crisis continues it’ll be more and more difficult to convince many of our friends of the importance of aid to Ukraine.”
Puribiy said among other things the Americans were worried by the details of the vote of no-confidence in the government in the Verkhovna Rada on February 16.
The parliamentary crisis in Ukraine has brought about a practical collapse of the parliamentary majority. The coalition has lost the 226 votes necessary for its existence but it exists de jure as the agreement on forming it still has the signatures of the deputies who have quitted it by now.
