By the constant administration of lies, the media puppeteers manufacture wars, protect the super-wealthy, and destroy democracy.
PATRICE GREANVILLE
As has been said and documented many times on this website, the US media and their numerous satellites around the globe are experts at disseminating lies and disinformation. The sorry fact is that no machinery of deception has ever matched the power of American propaganda—the marketing of ideologies—and that’s because, in large measure, it appears not to exist at all. People in America have been conditioned (another lie) to believe that propaganda of the heavy-duty sort can only issue from the government, state agencies, and the like, especially under regimes deemed despotic, “undemocratic”, or simply totalitarian. But the most effective propaganda—totalitarian of a different kind— is that which emanates from privately owned media and the “spontaneous” voices of thousands of pundits and politicians, all repeating (or not disagreeing with) a particularly mendacious line.
Such is the case with the current demonization of Syria’s president—Bashar al-Assad— and its closest ally, Russia and its president. The assault on Syria, long in the plotting, began in earnest in 2011. Iran has been in the crosshairs of US “character assassination” propaganda for decades. But the virus is now extending to China, too.
[dropcap]W[/dropcap]ashington’s drive to topple Syria’s legitimate president is fueled by the Zionist Neocons’ program of complete American world domination, a unipolar world that brooks no competitors or sovereign states, large or small. The specific objectives are strategic (make sure that no one disobeys Washington’s fiats in the Middle East, while suppressing Russia’s growing influence in the region), as well as economic: Middle East oil remains a huge source of enrichment for a puny sliver of humanity ensconced at the highest levels of American and Western society (assisted by their equally criminal royal associates in the Persian Gulf itself). The propaganda of course does not mention such crass motives. Few Americans would consent to squander their money and lives to defend such atrocity. So it’s all about America’s goodness; its desire to relieve the region of tyrants, provide humanitarian assistance, and introduce democracy, freedom and the rest of the usual phony drivel, none of which matters one iota to the US ruling cliques. The American media have perfected the Big Lie to a degree beyond Goebbels’ wildest fantasies. The main method—grounded in endless repetition— has always been the routine omission of truth and context, and reliance on half-truths to sell the really vicious falsifications. An odious cacophony of poisoned words assure that people gradually “get the message.” Thus while Washington itself —a criminal assemblage with few peers on the face of the planet—is never described as a “regime” with all its unpleasant connotations (nor for that matter any government allied with Washington, no matter how crooked or bloodthirsty), political enemies—regardless of their virtues or popularity— are almost always described in such invidious terms. Thus Russia, Iran, Venezuela, North Korea, Syria, or Libya (under Gaddafi) never had a government, only a “regime”. The use of this abject word on the lips of any US “journalist” —”the Assad regime”; the “Putin regime”—should tip us off to the presence of a disinformer.
Observe closely this brief report by CBS’ Elizabeth Palmer, from Aleppo, mild by the standards of American venom, and see if you can spot the innuendos and falsehoods. Observe her tone, how self-righteously she delivers her denunciation of Syrian government and Russian perfidy, her sympathies clearly with the opposition, the rebels, “…what a contrast with last week when Russian and Syrian planes were dropping bombs on rebel-held Aleppo…” Bad. Bad. As if these “rebels” were in actuality the “moderate” freedom fighters that Washington & Co. would have us believe instead of ISIS and al-Qaeda murderous fanatics—all playing Washington’s cynical game. Of course, no mention whatsoever that it was and is Washington itself who created this horrible mess and keeps it going directly and through myriad proxies.
If you do spot the lies, use our comment window to tell the world about it. Flex your mental muscles from here on out, and start noticing the lies dished out by the Western media. Never fail to expose them. Pass your observations to your friends and kin. It’s the only way to weaken this filthy deception machine, the source of much of the plutocrats’ illegitimate power. If you want the United States to be the democracy it pretends to be, it’s up to you to make it happen. Before time runs out on us all. —PG
