CAITLIN JOHNSTONE—Please make no mistake: when I say that Trump is the same as Bush and Obama, I am not in any way attempting to diminish the extent of his wickedness. Quite the opposite; I view neoconservatism as the single most dangerous ideology that has ever existed, followed closely by the ecocidal policies inherent in unchecked corporatism

The Best Definition of Donald Trump We Have Found
In his zeal to prove to his antagonists in the War Party that he is as bloodthirsty as their champion, Hillary Clinton, and more manly than Barack Obama, Trump seems to have gone “play-crazy” -- acting like an unpredictable maniac in order to terrorize the Russians into forcing some kind of dramatic concessions from their Syrian allies, or risk Armageddon. However, the “play-crazy” gambit can only work when the leader is, in real life, a disciplined and intelligent actor, who knows precisely what actual boundaries must not be crossed. That ain’t Donald Trump -- a pitifully shallow and ill-disciplined man, emotionally handicapped by obscene privilege and cognitively crippled by white American chauvinism. It serves the capitalists agenda so he is allowed to pretend that he’s the president. The corporate media tries to normalize the situation in D.C. but… Read more »
It is so hard to get this message across to people. The continuity from one President to the next is nearly seamless–what mostly changes are the messages associated with the actions rather than the actions themselves. Trump is horrible, Obama was horrible, Bush II was horrible, and so it goes. The wars go on. The trillion dollar handouts to Wall Street go on. The workers continue to get shafted. But people choose to view the President as a magical solution–or horrible nightmare if the ‘wrong’ person gets elected–while never looking at the reality of their situation.
