PAT BUCHANAN—Paddock murdered 59 people he did not know and against whom he had no grievance. How did he come to be a man who treated fellow humans as vermin? And does this say something about our civilization? In “The Brothers Karamazov,” novelist Fyodor Dostoevsky has his character Ivan say, “If God is dead, all things are permissible.” What Ivan meant is that if God does not exist, the idea of God’s law, of heaven or hell as reward or punishment, is nonsense. And if it is, there is no man-made law that can deter men who have decided to “end it all.”

The Best Definition of Donald Trump We Have Found
In his zeal to prove to his antagonists in the War Party that he is as bloodthirsty as their champion, Hillary Clinton, and more manly than Barack Obama, Trump seems to have gone “play-crazy” -- acting like an unpredictable maniac in order to terrorize the Russians into forcing some kind of dramatic concessions from their Syrian allies, or risk Armageddon. However, the “play-crazy” gambit can only work when the leader is, in real life, a disciplined and intelligent actor, who knows precisely what actual boundaries must not be crossed. That ain’t Donald Trump -- a pitifully shallow and ill-disciplined man, emotionally handicapped by obscene privilege and cognitively crippled by white American chauvinism. By pushing Trump into a corner and demanding that he display his most bellicose self, or be ceaselessly mocked as a “puppet” and minion of Russia, a lesser power, the War Party and its media and clandestine services have created a perfect storm of mayhem that may consume us all.— Glen Ford, Editor in Chief, Black Agenda Report
I want to share a few thoughts with you on Buchanan’s article about Paddock. I agree with him about the widespread death of conscience and that moral nihilism is a major problem today. But that goes much deeper than his analysis, but that would take an article all its own, which I may write. It would involve the ruling elites, first and foremost, one of which Buchanan is. It would involve him and his old boss Nixon, who are responsible for many millions of deaths in Southeast Asia. It would involve Buchanan’s nihilistic work to coverup the My Lai massacre… Read more »
We are not living in a post-christian age…. Christianity as a block is aligned with the most regressive, violent positions: trophy hunting, where young children are taught to kill at christian youth hunting ministries, firmly behind the current crusade into muslim countries, as anti-semitic as ever, both the left and right find ways to blame the jews for capitalism, control, of the media etc… Christianity is violent to its bloody core, beginning with the violent imagery of torture and crucifixion: “A note to all happy families gathering around tables with a centerpiece of a murdered innocent – enjoy. Apparently God… Read more »
