The Best Definition of Donald Trump We Have Found
In his zeal to prove to his antagonists in the War Party that he is as bloodthirsty as their champion, Hillary Clinton, and more manly than Barack Obama, Trump seems to have gone “play-crazy” -- acting like an unpredictable maniac in order to terrorize the Russians into forcing some kind of dramatic concessions from their Syrian allies, or risk Armageddon. However, the “play-crazy” gambit can only work when the leader is, in real life, a disciplined and intelligent actor, who knows precisely what actual boundaries must not be crossed. That ain’t Donald Trump -- a pitifully shallow and ill-disciplined man, emotionally handicapped by obscene privilege and cognitively crippled by white American chauvinism. By pushing Trump into a corner and demanding that he display his most bellicose self, or be ceaselessly mocked as a “puppet” and minion of Russia, a lesser power, the War Party and its media and clandestine services have created a perfect storm of mayhem that may consume us all.— Glen Ford, Editor in Chief, Black Agenda Report
I can’t help but wish George Carlin or Bill Hicks were still around to intellectually skewer, slice & dice these pathetic little shills for war and empire. Comedy as blatant propaganda for empire. There really aren’t enough words to properly express my contempt for such behavior.
We all miss Carlin tremendosly, gbossa. TGP has several posts featuring his unique brand of comedy. A true rebel, and brilliant, too. This bunch I citique here are simply pathetic—as history will show if we manage to survive our own suicidal tedencies.
Knowing what these guys are selling, I won’t even click on their videos to give them a view. The mass conformity that says “only Democrats are good” while cheering for war, a new round of McCarthyism, and the security state is what comics should be fighting AGAINST, not cheering for.
A very fine summary of the situation! These bastards are traitors to their art and the ordinary citizen they drag into these horrid plans being concocted by the 0.00001%. Abject people, and hypocrites to them last man (or woman).
I could not bear to see even a minute ( I used to watch Samantha Bee, and Colbert in his old show) of these stooges. Humor needs to have some subtlety and preferably some elegance and balance, but with all these “comedians” nothing like that is seen. Democrats have moved over to the right and pushed the Repugs off the edge, but to choose to get a revenge for a well-deserved defeat in 2016 by ruining any hope of good relationship with Russia Is dangerous for the nation no matter who is in power. Added to this is the support… Read more »
Beautifully expressed, thank you.
This is so nauseating. I live in Japan and never watch U.S. television, even on the internet. To think that this is what is “informing” the public, shaping the narrative, poisoning the well, is beyond the pale. How can I thank you, Patrice, for draining the last little droplets of pus out of my pustule of hope for turning the U.S. around? I’ve obviously been living in my own bubble of cognitive dissonance. Regardless of how self-sabotaging, irrational, and just plain stupid our citizens act, I’ve clung on to some fairy dust belief that they could be awakened, educated, galvanized… Read more »
