Jimmy, one of the most politically articulate comedians in the US is constantly on the move, producing incisive critiques of US and western society, from a consistently anti-capitalist/anti-imperialist perspective. He is (with Lee Camp) probably the only working comedian with a valid claim to being an heir of George Carlin. I like most of what Jimmy Dore says most of the time, but I have to side with Bernie Sanders this time, against Jimmy Dore. Jimmy Dore says “we got ballot access for the Green Party in 48 states, and that’s all you need to win.” No, it’s not all you need to win. In 2016, the Green Party got less than 1% of the popular vote in the presidential election, despite widespread ballot access. Something else was missing. Publicity and a perceived electability. The basic premise is that a better candidate will change enough or able to change enough in the system for it to be a real difference to the US public. I doubt that is possible because the existing structure is so well weaponized against the interests of the people that even with an optimal candidate nothing can or will shift.
