Move over, Colin Powell, John Kerry has now become the newest US official to win the Goebbels Award for disservice to humanity. Kerry, the onetime opponent of war, earned the dubious award by giving an inspired rendition of the grotesque lies being marshaled by the US government in pursuit of a warrantless (and totally illegal) war against Syria, a conflict long engineered by US neocons as part of their agenda to remove the last obstacles to complete Anglo-American domination of the Middle East. In a short speech dripping with hypocrisy and smugness (see video) Obama’s Secretary of State outlined on 30 August the reasons America supposedly must punish Syrian President Assad and countless innocent Syrian civilians in a muscle-flexing exercise worthy of bullies and unlikely to change the course of the war, except for the worse.
If we are to believe Kerry, the kind, noble, and ever righteous United States and its allies in global gendarmerie had said “No” to the thug Assad, warned him not to do it, not to use those terrible chemical weapons, but he didn’t listen, thereby forcing their hand. Kerry’s extreme sensibility apparently did not permit him to mention that the US and its royal Gulf cronies, Turkey, Jordan and other sordid regional clients have been stealthily meddling in Syria to topple Assad for at least two full years.
The highfalutin rhetoric may fool some, perhaps many, but soon enough the truth will come out and the US misleading class will have one more appalling crime to answer for.

A slight contradiction
It’s most interesting that while Obama & Co —still without actual proof—are quite willing to trot before the public ghastly images of people supposedly gassed by the Syrian government, the American media and establishment are loath to show what a Hellfire missile does to flesh and bone, what a drone strike does to the human body. The reason is obvious: the results are nightmarish. People are vaporized into red mist, dismembered in a hundred parts in an instant, or turned into gruesome, mangled bloody messes of semi-liquified tissue. But don’t expect to see such horrendous pictures on NBC, CBS or the rest of the imperial, warmongering media. After all, WE use such weapons, and so does our favorite ally in the Middle East, Israel. So the images for our violence must remain sanitized.
Inspector Louie to the rescue
Considering the sanctimonious show put on by Obama, Kerry and their accomplices in Congress and media regarding the gas attack—they are shocked, shocked!—and the similar theatrics inflicted on the public by Cameron and Hollande across the Atlantic, we are forced to ask: if the US, Britain and France look upon chemical weapons with such distaste, regarding them beyond the pale, why do these countries hoard enormous stockpiles of precisely such weapons? The minute you start probing the official argument it begins to fall apart. The lies and contradictions multiply like rabbits. Would Assad have been condemned if the victims had died as a result of conventional weapons used by all sides in this war? Oh, you betcha. After all, it’s a fixed game, isn’t it?—P. Greanville
