The Empire’s Greatest Trick and ” Let Them Eat Cake”

In director Bryan Singer's fantastic 1995 film The Usual Suspects the bad guy in the film was being interviewed by investigators. They had no idea that he was the villain they were looking for. During the interview he made the greatest statement: " The devil's greatest trick is making everyone believe he doesn't exist." Since the devil has always been associated with evil deeds, so our US empire can wear that crown... or should I say horns. Part two of my title has to do with the mindset of all empires and the super rich who rule or profit from them. Before the French Revolution, so similar to the new Gilded Age we currently live in, the famous comment about the poor was Qu' ils mangent de la brioche. This was apparently spoken by a princess about the plight of the peasants who could not afford bread. Thus, she mentioned a brioche made from eggs and butter, which no poor person could ever afford to buy or make.

For as long as factual American history has been documented, the ' powers that be ' , the super rich and their many minions, have tricked our populace into thinking that we are a democracy. Whenever a viable third party movement  gathered steam throughout our 200+ year history, one of the other major parties either co-opted it, bought it off, or scandalized it. Money talks and our Two Party/One Party system has always had lots of it to throw around. The rule of thumb has always been ' The more you can spend to influence the suckers, the more they vote for you.' Plain and simple. Of course, the embedded mainstream media and compliant public servants AKA politicians are always there to blow the trumpet for their super rich handlers. Sad but true.

Then we come to the suckers, saps and lollipops who are led to the voting booth time and time again. Watching ' The Donald's ' carnival sideshow event last night in West Virginia, one of our poorest states , brought this writer to that feeling of ' quiet desperation' . Looking at the crowds of working stiffs, some actually wearing hard hats, as they cheered this man and shouted ' Make America great again' , I actually felt so sorry for them... and me. Trump and his administration, with aid from his party and many compliant Democrats, is strangling whatever is left of our labor movement... and our environment!. The cuts to our safety net and the obscene militarism ( with higher and higher military spending ) will see many of those in the crowd go down to their knees quite quickly. Why do so many believe him?

Rally in West Virginia (TGP screengrab)

[dropcap]W[/dropcap]e have to understand that Trump got elected because of the anger many working stiff white Americans have had for the Democrats... but for the wrong reasons. Of course, if the Democrats had run ' Donald Duck ' against Trump, they would have won easily. It was the fact that one of the most despised politicians of this era ran against Trump. The suckers out there did not really care about Trump's BS and his distortions and untruths, when they had such an easy source of their disdain. Again, for all the wrong reasons. Low and middle income working stiff whites should have cared about her warmongering, her sucking up to the Wall Street banksters and her support for any increase in military spending that came her way. No, she was the ' Wicked Marxist Witch' who wanted to turn our nation into a totalitarian system. So, they believed the Reality show star and wanted the ' Swamp drained', the ' Wall built' and their jobs secured. Imagine how many bridges in Brooklyn Trump could have sold them!

For generations the Democrats have had the panache of being ' working class heroes' but never the substance. President Truman, a Democrat, signed off on the unnecessary and immoral  action of dropping two A-Bombs on Japan. He also later on signed the worst anti labor legislation imaginable, the Taft-Hartley Act . Truman signed off on the creation of a Central Intelligence Agency, without attempting to harness it in. LBJ, a ' Liberal Democrat, allowed the Military Industrial Empire to rage war in Vietnam, costing millions of deaths and billions of wasted dollars...except of course for the War Economy. Democrat Bill Clinton signed off on the US led NATO destruction of Yugoslavia. He also signed the Welfare Act that strangled many poor families. Of course, his ' piece de resistance ' was the repeal of the Glass - Steagall Act  of 1933, thus opening the door for massive fraud and over speculation by the Wall Street Banksters. Democrat Obama sold the Kool- Aid of ' Hope and Change ' and then continued the phony Wall Street Giveaway ... oh sorry, Bailout. Obama also continued the Deep State's imperialist designs in the Middle East, capped by the total destruction of Libya. Under him, a Democrat, the obscene military spending orchestrated by the Bush/Cheney gang actually was topped to over 50% of our tax money!

Now, anyone with any sane and rational mind should know that the Republicans have always represented the super rich in the most overt fashion. They actually make no bones about it! Their logic has always been that as long as the super rich continue to make fortunes, then the ' trickledown effect is in place. You know, ' crumbs from the table' and all that. Again, to  'out macho'  their cousins, the Democrats, the Republicans make war as foreign policy. You know, the adage from the Old West: " Shoot and ask questions later." They allow the corporate predators to have full reign and call it ' The Free Market '. Bush Sr. and his son Junior should have been charged with treason for both their illegal and immoral attacks on Iraq, a sovereign nation. That party, the Republicans, is so entrenched in evil deeds for the few over the needs of the many, that their Karma builds each and every day.

Folks, this Two Party/One Party scam is what is destroying your lives, economically, spiritually and even physically. ' Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice ( and a zillion times) and shame on ME'!!!

Parting shot—a word from the editors
The Best Definition of Donald Trump We Have Found

In his zeal to prove to his antagonists in the War Party that he is as bloodthirsty as their champion, Hillary Clinton, and more manly than Barack Obama, Trump seems to have gone “play-crazy” — acting like an unpredictable maniac in order to terrorize the Russians into forcing some kind of dramatic concessions from their Syrian allies, or risk Armageddon. However, the “play-crazy” gambit can only work when the leader is, in real life, a disciplined and intelligent actor, who knows precisely what actual boundaries must not be crossed. That ain’t Donald Trump — a pitifully shallow and ill-disciplined man, emotionally handicapped by obscene privilege and cognitively crippled by white American chauvinism. By pushing Trump into a corner and demanding that he display his most bellicose self, or be ceaselessly mocked as a “puppet” and minion of Russia, a lesser power, the War Party and its media and clandestine services have created a perfect storm of mayhem that may consume us all. POST being commented:
Society Is Made Of Narrative. Realizing This Is Awakening From The Matrix. (By Caitlin Johnstone)

Commenter: Eric Schechter (LeftyMathProf)

LeftyMathProf

I've said most of this before, but Caitlin Johnstone says it better. Here's one line of hers that I particularly liked, that I hadn't said before:

"... since it’s all narrative, anything is possible."

And here are a couple of things CJ doesn't say, that I think also deserve mention:

In the film "The Matrix," Neo's awakening is all at once. But in our real world, awakening from the illusions is generally in stages. People may be awakened on one issue and not on other issues -- and unfortunately they may then believe they are fully awakened, and they may stop looking further. They may form different and separate organizations, each devoted to one issue, without ever seeing how all the issues are connected.

And so they accept most of the mainstream narrative, and only object to some little elements in it. They see some little object -- this war, or that politician, or this corrupt law, or the absence of that reform law -- as the source of the problem, and they think "if only we could fix this, then things could get back to normal." And for "normal" they have accepted the mainstream narrative, the middle-class lifestyle that is depicted in light family dramas on every television channel. They don't see that all our problems are inherent in that very notion of "normal" life -- e.g., in our economic system, which is based on not sharing. We can't "solve our problems and get back to normal." What we need to do, instead, is expose the craziness that is inherent in our notion of normal, and begin a new and completely different world. But it's hard to imagine that different world, hard to talk about it, hard to figure out how we'll get there. Let's see what's on tv instead.

What the hell!!! using scare tactics to sell your product!! How shameful !!! Remove your ad!! I saw this guy in another commercial he ain’t doing it for free!

MarcusGoodwyn

I loathe all pharmaceutical commercials and this one I hate the most! Everybody is fake. It’s a fake camera crew interviewing people “with type 2“ that are clearly actors. Their fake reactions listening to him are the worst!

JM NYC
The majority of the commercial is just them mentioning the side effects. Geesh.

Sure, take this to avoid dying of a heart attack and instead exchange that for the risk of dying from the fatal side effect: ketoacidosis. What kind of logic is that?

I agree with that header. I’ve been recently seeing that douchebag lead actor from this commercial popping up all over the place in other commercials, too. I hope he overdoses on his Jardiance.

This guy looks like the backstage counselor on the Maury show…

the guy in this ad goes out and randomly finds people with diabetes and then peddles this medication? How long did it take him to find people to answer “yes” to the question “do you have diabetes?” Are we really supposed to believe any of this crap?

In small print, it basically says that all the people in this commercial are actors. Not surprising, considering the way that last dude just says “It’s time to start thinking about Jardiance” as if they handed him some cash before he uttered those words…
Sally Smith
Thanks for posting this. I had the exact same thought. He is a jerk; they are actors; who goes around scaring people randomly about dying of heart disease so they will bug their doctor to prescribe it? All together a horrible commercial, a horrible “star” of the commercial. Also, I love the shot where they show the spokesman and his assistant and cameraman walking along the street. Who is taking the picture if the camera is with that group. I hate this commercial so much.

Robert Willis
Jardiance. A man with no boundaries and a rod up his ass.

Thank you, thank you, for bringing up these terribly misleading commercials. I think we might be the only country in the World that allows pharmaceutical companies to pitch their snake oil. This one is especially bad as it creates a false narrative and need, basically selling by creating fear. All pharmaceutical ads should be banned!

These douchebag actors have no self-respect, and no concerns except their ego. Helping gougers to sell their crap. Shameful.

The Russian Peace Threat examines Russophobia, American Exceptionalism and other urgent topics

Sanctions, Sanctions, Sanctions – the Final Demise of the Dollar Hegemony?

HELP ENLIGHTEN YOUR FELLOWS. BE SURE TO PASS THIS ON. SURVIVAL DEPENDS ON IT.

All looks arbitrary and destructive. All is of course totally illegal by any international law or, forget law, which is not respected anyway by the empire and its vassals, but not even by human moral standards. Sanctions are destructive. They are interfering in other countries sovereignty. They are made to punish countries, nations, that refuse to bend to a world dictatorship.

Looks like everybody accepts this new economic warfare as the new normal. Nobody objects. And the United Nations, the body created to maintain Peace, to protect our globe from other wars, to uphold human rights – this very body is silent – out of fear? Out of fear that it might be ‘sanctioned’ into oblivion by the dying empire? – Why cannot the vast majority of countries – often it is a ratio of 191 to 2 (Israel and the US) – reign-in the criminals?

Imagine Turkey – sudden massive tariffs on aluminum (20%) and steel (50%) imposed by Trump, plus central bank currency interference had the Turkish Lira drop by 40%, and that ‘only’ because Erdogan is not freeing US pastor Andrew Brunson, who faces in Turkey a jail sentence of 35 years for “terror and espionage”. An Izmir court has just turned down another US request for clemency, however, converting his jail sentence to house arrest for health reason. It is widely believed that Mr. Brunson’s alleged 23 years of ‘missionary work’ is but a smoke screen for spying.

President Erdogan has just declared he would look out for new friends, including new trading partners in the east – Russia, China, Iran, Ukraine, even the unviable EU, and that his country is planning issuing Yuan-denominated bonds to diversify Turkey’s economy, foremost the country’s reserves and gradually moving away from the dollar hegemony.

"The absurdity seems endless and escalating – exponentially, as if there was a deadline to collapse the world. Looks like a last-ditch effort to bring down international trade in favor of — what? – Make America Great Again?"

Looking out for new friends, may also include new military alliances. Is Turkey planning to exit NATO? Would Turkey be ‘allowed’ to exit NATO – given its strategic position maritime and land position between east and west? – Turkey knows that having military allies that dish out punishments for acting sovereignly in internal affairs– spells disaster for the future. Why continue offering your country to NATO, whose only objective it is to destroy the east – the very east which is not only Turkey’s but the world’s future? Turkey is already approaching the SCO (Shanghai Cooperation Organization) and may actually accede to it within the foreseeable future. That might be the end of Turkey’s NATO alliance.

What if Iran, Venezuela, Russia, China – and many more countries not ready to bow to the empire, would jail all those spies embedded in the US Embassies or camouflaged in these countries’ national (financial) institutions, acting as Fifth Columns, undermining their host countries’ national and economic policies? – Entire cities of new jails would have to be built to accommodate the empire’s army of criminals.

Imagine Russia – more sanctions were just imposed for alleged and totally unproven (to the contrary: disproven) Russian poisoning of four UK citizens with the deadly nerve agent, Novichok – and for not admitting it. This is a total farce, a flagrant lie, that has become so ridiculous, most thinking people, even in the UK, just laugh about it. Yet, Trump and his minions in Europe and many parts of the world succumb to this lie – and out of fear of being sanctions, they also sanction Russia. What has the world become? – Hitler’s Propaganda Minister, Joseph Goebbels, would be proud for having taught the important lesson to the liars of the universe: “Let me control the media, and I will turn any nation into a herd of Pigs”. That’s what we have become – a herd of pigs.

Fortunately, Russia too has moved away so far already from the western dollar-controlled economy that such sanctions no longer hurt. They serve Trump and his cronies as mere propaganda tools – show-offs, “we are still the greatest!”.

[dropcap]V[/dropcap]enezuela is being sanctioned into the ground, literally, by from-abroad (Miami and Bogota) Twitter-induced manipulations of her national currency, the Bolívar, causing astronomical inflations – constant ups and downs of the value of the local currency, bringing the national economy to a virtual halt. Imported food, pharmaceuticals and other goods are being deviated at the borders and other entry points, so they will never end up on supermarket shelves, but become smuggle ware in Colombia, where these goods are being sold at manipulated dollar-exchange rates to better-off Venezuelan and Columbian citizens. These mafia type gangs are being funded by NED and other similar nefarious State Department financed “NGOs”, trained by US secret services, either within or outside Venezuela. Once infiltrated into Venezuela – overtly or covertly – they tend to boycott the local economy from within, spread violence and become part of the Fifth Column, primarily sabotaging the financial system.

Venezuela is struggling to get out of this dilemma which has people suffering, by de-dollarizing her economy, partly through a newly created cryptocurrency, the Petro, based on Venezuela’s huge oil reserves and also through a new Bolivar – in the hope of putting the breaks on the spiraling bursts of inflation. This scenario reminds so much of Chile in 1973, when Henry Kissinger was Foreign Secretary (1973-1977), and inspired the CIA coup, by “disappearing” food and other goods from Chilean markets, killing legitimately elected President Allende, bringing Augusto Pinochet, a horrendous murderer and despot to power. The military dictatorship regime brought the death and disappearance of tens of thousands of people and lasted until 1990. Subjugating Venezuela might, however, not be so easy. After all, Venezuela has 19 years of revolutionary Chavista experience – and a solid sense of resistance.

Iran – is being plunged into a similar fate. For no reason at all, Trump reneged on the five-plus-one pronged so-called Nuclear Deal, signed in Vienna on 14 July 2015, after almost ten years of negotiations. Now – of course driven by the star-Zionist Netanyahu – new and ‘the most severe ever’ sanctions are being imposed on Iran, also decimating the value of their local currency, the Rial. Iran, under the Ayatollah, has already embarked on a course of “Resistance Economy”, meaning de-dollarization of their economy and moving towards food and industrial self-sufficiency, as well as increased trading with eastern countries, China, Russia, the SCO and other friendly and culturally aligned nations, like Pakistan. However, Iran too has a strong Fifth Column, engrained in the financial sector, that does not let go of forcing and propagating trading with the enemy, i.e. the west, the European Union, whose euro-monetary system is part of the dollar hegemony, hence posing similar vulnerability of sanctions as does the dollar.

[dropcap]C[/dropcap]hina – the stellar prize of the Big Chess Game – is being ‘sanctioned’ with tariffs no end, for having become the world’s strongest economy, surpassing in real output and measured by people’s purchasing power, by far the United States of America. China also has a solid economy and gold-based currency, the Yuan – which is on a fast track to overtake the US-dollar as the number one world reserve currency. China retaliates, of course, with similar ‘sanctions’, but by and large, her dominance of Asian markets and growing economic influence in Europe, Africa and Latin America, is such that Trump’s tariff war means hardly more for China than a drop on a hot stone.

North Korea – the much-touted Trump-Kim mid-June Singapore summit – has long since become a tiny spot in the past. Alleged agreements reached then are being breached by the US, as could have been expected. All under the false and purely invented pretext of DPRK not adhering to her disarmament commitment; a reason to impose new strangulating sanctions. The world looks on. Its normal. Nobody dares questioning the self-styled Masters of the Universe. Misery keeps being dished out left and right – accepted by the brainwashed to-the-core masses around the globe. War is peace and peace is war. Literally. The west is living in a “peaceful” comfort zone. Why disturb it? – If people die from starvation or bombs – it happens far away and allows us to live in peace. Why bother? – Especially since we are continuously, drip-by-steady drip being told it's right.

In a recent interview with PressTV I was asked, why does the US not adhere to any of their internationally or bilaterally concluded treaties or agreements? – Good question. – Washington is breaking all the rules, agreements, accords, treaties, is not adhering to any international law or even moral standard, simply because following such standards would mean giving up world supremacy. Being on equal keel is not in Washington’s or Tel Aviv’s interest. Yes, this symbiotic and sick relationship between the US and Zionist Israel is becoming progressively more visible; the alliance of the brute military force and the slick and treacherous financial dominion – together striving for world hegemony, for full spectrum dominance. This trend is accelerating under Trump and those who give him orders, simply because “they can”. Nobody objects. This tends to portray an image of peerless power, instilling fear and is expected to incite obedience. Will it?

What is really transpiring is that Washington is isolating itself, that the one-polar world is moving towards a multipolar world, one that increasingly disregards and disrespects the United States, despises her bullying and warmongering – killing and shedding misery over hundreds of millions of people, most of them defenseless children, women and elderly, by direct military force or by proxy-led conflicts – Yemen is just one recent example, causing endless human suffering to people who have never done any harm to their neighbors, let alone to Americans. Who could have any respect left for such a nation, called the United States of America, for the people behind such lying monsters?

This behavior by the dying empire is driving allies and friends into the opposite camp – to the east, where the future lays, away from a globalized One-World-Order, towards a healthy and more equal multi-polar world. – It would be good, if our world body, the members of the United Nations, created in the name of Peace, would finally gather the courage and stand up against the two destroyer nations for the good of humanity, of the globe, and of Mother Earth.

HELP ENLIGHTEN YOUR FELLOWS. BE SURE TO PASS THIS ON. WE MUST BREAK THE IMPERIAL DISINFORMATION MACHINE.

Afterthoughts by Gaither Stewart

(Rome) The West’s dismantling of Yugoslavia was a signpost, a harbinger of Capitalism’s then new strategy for world domination. NATO’s original bombing war against Serbs in Bosnia in 1995 and in Belgrade-Beograd in 1999 were precedents for the military interventions and neo-colonialism to come—for preemptive war under the cover of human rights. The illegal wars for the slicing up of Yugoslavia were the precursor and the model for the U.S. attacks on Afghanistan and Iraq and Libya and Syria and the other wars, at their start, in Africa and again in Latin America as in Venezuela. Notable in the case of Yugoslavia was the traitorous support for the bombing of the country of western liberals and many leftists, like thed Italian leftist government in Italy just across the Adriatic Sea from Yugoslavia. The bombers flew from airports in Italy, above all from the Aviano Airbase in NE Italy. Intellectuals and the media swallowed whole the genocide-by-the-evil-Serbs story ... and regurgitated it. In the same way, gullible western leftists justified the illegal military interventions, and ultimately the neocolonial occupation of Bosnia and Kosovo. Before NATO’s 78-day bombing war against Serbia in 1999, the U.S.-supported criminal Kosovar KLA, the Kosovar Liberation Army, had killed far, far more Muslims in Kosovo than the Yugoslav authorities had. The administration of President Clinton armed and trained that army of criminals. Top secret!

The propaganda line was Milosevic conducted genocide in Kosovo. An enormous historical lie. President Milosevic and Serbia had to take the whole blame for the civil war. Serbia was excluded from its own Kosovo province and Milosevic was hauled off to the International Tribunal in The Hague and tried for war crimes … where he eventually died in his cell, at night. Enough to make you doubt all history books. If truth were the prime criterion, then most history books would have to be rewritten … Schopenhauer wrote back in 1851 that Clio, the muse of history, is as thoroughly infected with lies as is a street whore with syphilis.

Then, in 2006 the European Union and the USA had the effrontery to concede Montenegro’s right to secede from Serbia. Then again the West conceded the ‘right’ of Kosovo to detach itself from Serbia while the illegal occupiers assured the world that Kosovo would not be a precedent for other conflicts. One illegal act followed the other. Kosovo fell under UN administration after which it declared its independence. But not even that enormous illegality was enough. For then, America’s huge military base suddenly emerged in the newly recognized vassal state of Kosovo: Camp Bondsteel mushroomed on Kosovar fields.

Kosovo is an occupied state. Punto e basta! After NATO’s bombing war against Serbia in spring 1999, Kosovo was occupied by foreign troops. Territory stolen from Serbia by military force in contravention of the UN Charter. Serbian lands transformed into a U.S. vassal and one gigantic military base.

The Kosovo Liberation Army, pushing for separation from Serbia, commited many crimes against ethnic Serbians. The US and EU turned a blind eye.

Keep in mind that all this happened in Europe which no wars since 1945!! But the Security Council neither condemned NATO’s illegal war nor tried to remedy the postwar situation, because three of the Council’s permanent member states had launched that war. Serbia itself became to all effects a defeated state. The UN accepted the war of aggression against Serbia as a fait accompli. And confirmed the legitimacy of the bombing war on humanitarian grounds.

Thus, the precedent was set for intervention anywhere … in Libya and Syria and Iran. And candidate nations for humanitarian intervention are countless—Iran, North Korea, you name it. The aggression against Serbia marked the end of morality as we once knew it. The gods are dead and anything is permitted. The black hole of immorality…. Think Serbia and think Kosovo. Pure robbery.

The theft of Kosovo affects every aspect, every curve and dip and rise of Serbian politics. Serbia and Serbs, all of them, are incapable of swallowing the illegal NATO war against them back in 1999. Just the theft of Kosovo!.The wound festers. The loss of Kosovo runs like a sore through Serbs. Serbia,of left or right, cannot even allow the importation of any product from that fake country, like Kosovo’s famous wines, if it is marked ‘produce of the Republic of Kosovo’.…

Camp Bondsteel: one of America's biggest bases in the world, poised between Serbia and Albania, in the heart of Europe.

Serbia is both European and anti-European. Its march toward the European Union is slow. One step forward and two back. Serbia wants the EU and it doesn’t. It has one foot in, one foot out. The Serbian Socialist Party was falsely blamed for the Balkan wars, for genocide, before it was betrayed. Its leader Milosevic was sacrificed so that Europe could make war on Serbia.

Meanwhile, Serbia has become a lynchpin for Russian plans to deliver its gas directly to Europe via a pipeline under construction, passing under the Black Sea, through Bulgaria and Serbia to Italy and Austria. Why should Serbia worry about Europe’s growing dependency on Russian gas? Russia and Serbia are Slavic brothers: similar languages, Eastern Orthodoxy, major trading partners.

And above all, Russia supported Serbia on the U.S.-EU theft of Kosovo.
