EDITOR—Garland and Laith discuss the semi-deranged ways Israel is lashing out in all directions, clearly provoking the chief regional members of the anti-imperialist alliance (Iran, Hezbollah, Yemen, Iraqi militias, and even Russia) into some escalation that might bring the US directly into the conflict. Moscow, of course, is furious with Israel’s attack on Iran’s Damascus embassy, and her repeated incursions, directly and by proxy, into Syria, with a view toward destabilizing Damascus. For the empire and its vassals, including Israel, have not given up on the idea of overthrowing Bashar al-Assad, and the empire sees benefit in overextending and distracting Russia.

Beyond the routine daily slaughter, in the past three weeks, Israel has been documented as killing twenty-four twenty-six journalists in Gaza. The Israelis yesterday, Oct. 25, 2023, targeted the family of famed Gazan journalist Wael Dahdouh. He lost his wife, son, daughter, and granddaughter. They had left for the south of Gaza to Khan Younis as ordered by the IDF. Then the IDF- humanitarians we are told- bombed the shit out of them.

Tucker Carlson’s firing has sparked debate about the implications for actual free speech on the current regime, or similar oligarchic admins that may follow. It is important to consider the political and cultural fallout from this event in order to understand the impact it will have on our society and the freedom of expression we are supposedly entitled to.

We are not exagerating. At The Greanville Post not a single writer or editor gets paid. It’s all volunteer labour.  Several of the most senior editors live on social security, a paltry income at best, but their lifelong commitment to social justice is strong. Technicians (webmaster and art people) get paid periodicallly, when we have a bit of spare cash, or in emergencies, but they also mostly volunteer or donate a large measure of their services.
