EDITORS—Jeffrey Sachs clarifies the motives behind the West’s deeply misguided assault on Russia via proxy Ukraine, and the consequences of the project’s inevitable defeat, as well as the growing warmongering noise for war on Iran. Sachs and the judge also discuss the rapidly changing political map in Europe, especially the rise of populist parties of the right and the left in Germany, France, etc., as a result of widespread deindustrialisation triggered by the US destruction of the Nord Stream gas pipeline, a conduit which assured cheap quality gas for Europe. The new “populism” opposes the expansion of the Ukraine war. Meanwhile, Turkey and other major nations seek admission to BRICS (which already surpassed the G7 in GDP), while rejecting the US right to impose sanctions on any country trading with partners Washington disapproves of.

GABRIEL ROCKHILL—Once the war was over, Senior U.S. intelligence officials, including Dulles, Wisner and Carmel Offie, “worked to ensure that denazification only had a limited scope,” according to Frédéric Charpier: “Generals, senior officials, policemen, industrialists, lawyers, economists, diplomats, scholars and real war criminals were spared and put back in their positions.” The man in charge of the Marshall Plan in Germany, for instance, was a former adviser to Hermann Göring, the commander-in-chief of the Luftwaffe (air force). Dulles drafted a list of high functionaries of the Nazi state to be protected and passed off as opponents to Hitler. The OSS-CIA proceeded to rebuild the administrative states in Germany and Italy with their anti-communist allies.

The U.S. empire fears confrontation with Iran, and this fear is frustrating its operations in all areas
16 minutes readRAINER SHEA—It’s always been obvious that trying to overthrow Iran’s government the same way Washington overthrew Hussein wouldn’t work, since Iran’s mountainous geography makes a ground invasion completely impractical. And with the shift towards multipolarity, Iran has risen to economic prominence, giving it too much stability for Washington’s color revolution attempts to be effective. Additionally, Iran’s rise has put it in place to threaten the U.S. with economic doom should full war break out, making Washington at risk of experiencing the same crises it subjects others to through its sanctions. Over the last two decades, Iran has also indirectly gained much more military power, since its anti-Zionist resistance partner Hezbollah has become an immensely strong armed force.

CAITLIN JOHNSTONE—Trump said a lot of offensive things and received a lot of incendiary coverage, but in terms of actual policy and governance he was a standard shitty Republican. His actual administration was very similar to that of his predecessors, and was evil not in some new way but in all the same ways those prior administrations were evil.

J. COOK—The situation with Gaza is even worse. It is not just that, as before, no one in power is listening. Those opposing Israel’s genocide, and western complicity in it, are being utterly maligned. The millions marching against the slaughter are reported as “tens of thousands”, while being actively smeared as “antisemites”.
Western states – and their self-professed “defensive alliance”, Nato – are not there to represent the public interest. They have become chiefly vehicles for the promotion of the narrow interests of a corporate elite, whose purpose, in turn, is to siphon into private hands the profits from publicly funded, permanent wars.
