EDITOR—Joe Biden’s speech Monday at the DNC was so full of whoppers that even mainstream media outlets typically in the tank for establishment Democrats like PBS and CNN took note, running “Fact check” pieces on the President. Among his lies included widely-debunked accusations against Donald Trump as well as outrageous exaggerations of his own accomplishments in office. Jimmy and Americans’ Comedian Kurt Metzger discuss the parade of lies and fearmongering reflected in what will likely be the last major speech of Biden’s presidency.

ERIC ZUESSE—The debate within the Truman Administration over how to deal with communism reached a point in 1950 when the viewpoint of diplomat George Kennan favoring its “containment” became pitted against that of investment banker Paul Nitze, favoring the attainment of an all-inclusive American empire. Nitze’s view won out, because Truman himself had already, by no later than 25 July 1945, been privately persuaded by his personal hero General Dwight Eisenhower, that if the U.S. wouldn’t take over the entire world, then the Soviet Union would.

MARK TAYLOR—Of the many, non-stop brutal war crimes by US-armed, financed and excused Israeli Israeli “Defense” Force thugs, one of those that embodies the essence of the US/Israeli genocide is the murder of 6-year-old Hind Rajab.
As noted in a Common Dreams report at the time:
The plight of 6-year-old Hind Rajab drew worldwide attention after the Palestine Red Crescent Society published a recording of a desperate phone call made by her 15-year-old cousin Layan Hamadeh to the PRCS as her family came under Israeli tank attack while trying to flee to safety in their car in the Tal al-Hawa neighborhood of southern Gaza City at dusk on January 29.
“They are shooting at us. The tank is right next to me. We’re in the car, the tank is right next to us,” Hamadeh said before screaming as gunfire erupts and the call goes silent.
Along with Hamadeh, Rajab’s aunt, uncle, and two other cousins were killed. But Rajab—who was wounded in the back and hand—initially survived.

CJ HOPKINS—As my regular readers know, for the last two years, I’ve been experiencing the global crackdown on dissent “up close and personal,” and trying to report on it. A lot of my reporting has fallen on deaf ears. Which is understandable, given the nature of what we’re up against, which is (a) formidable, (b) rather challenging to really understand, and (c) virtually unassailable, currently.
People don’t tend to like stories like that. They tend to like stories with “good guys,” and “bad guys,” and identifiable enemies, and simple solutions, even if those stories are, essentially, bullshit.
One of the most prevalent bullshit stories (i.e., theories) about the global crackdown on dissent is the one about how The Big Bad Government Forced the Poor Helpless Global Corporations to Censor Everybody, or at least Conservatives. Americans are particularly fond of this story, especially conservative Americans, as it casts the Big Bad Government as the antagonist, and good, freedom-loving, military-contracting billionaires like Elon Musk as the heroic protagonists.

GODFREE ROBERTS—Science fiction writers fantasize about how much nicer, longer and more civilized human life would be if every country had an inexhaustible supply of energy and everyone could afford as much of it as they needed. In this post we’ll look at post-2030 implications of China’s recent energy breakthroughs, given that it dominates all forms of modern energy generation, from efficient coal plants to wind generators to PV to pebble bed reactors and, now, fusion.
‘Free energy’ enthusiasts, perpetual motion inventors and science fiction writers all extol the wonders of a world where electricity is as clean, abundant and affordable as town water.
