SOLOMON COMMISSIONG-As someone who is NOT a “Democrat” (and certainly not a Republican), it is saddening to witness so many African Americans throwing their unconditional support behind the likes of Joe Biden, the man who was a primary author of the 1993/94 Crime Bill Act. Biden was also a strong supporter of the openly racist Strom Thurmond and is a rabid imperialist warmonger. The Democratic Party has done an excellent job of politically domesticating Black voters.

The jury in the February 11 trial of four US activists charged with disobeying police orders to relinquish their occupation of the Venezuelan embassy to supporters of self-proclaimed president Juan Guaido will not be told that the actual president is Nicolas Maduro, or that Guaido “has never served a nanosecond as president,” said defendant Kevin Zeese. “The little sliver of hope we have,” based on the judge’s ruling, “is that we can say that we believed we were in the embassy with the permission of what we thought was the elected government of Venezuela.” The defendants face a year in prison and fines of $100,000 each.

Freedom Rider: Iran and the Need for Black Activism
6 minutes readMARGARET KIMBERLEY—Even worse, a black man would be president. When Barack Obama destroyed Libya and killed its leader, the people who once spoke up in protest were suddenly silent.
Donald Trump has no such support. He is seen as an existential threat to black people and is dismissed and despised. But the damage has been done and black politics has been effectively neutered. The days of outspoken progressives in the Congressional Black Caucus are long gone and we are left with useless drivel about Trump asking permission to go to war.

PATRICK MARTIN—Given his age, Cummings played no role in the civil rights movement of the 1950s and 1960s. By the time he graduated from Howard University in 1973, and then obtained his law degree from the University of Maryland in 1976, the heyday of the great struggles for equal rights had passed, and a new period of capitalist political reaction was setting in.
The generation that led the civil rights struggles had either been murdered, like Medgar Evers, Malcolm X and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., or had been coopted by the capitalist establishment, taking positions as Democratic congressmen, big-city mayors, corporate executives, union bureaucrats and the like, helping police the working class on behalf of American capitalism.

Z—We created the Dual Power Map, because it’s one thing to sit and talk to people about the solidarity economy movement, worker cooperatives, community land trusts, and how great they are. And then it’s another thing to give people an interactive resource that allows them to engage with and support these institutions in the real world and in real time—something that we can update as time goes on.
