GARLAND NIXON—In a superb chat, Garland peels away the numerous layers of self-serving myths the Empire and its legions of apologists use to justify their criminal actions across the globe and even on the home turf, America itself. Exceptionalism, of course, comes up high, as America was born thinking itself unique and morally superior to all other nations, something probably inherited from the British, who, quietly but effectively culturally racist, have long regarded even their fellow Europeans —”the Continent”—as inferior humans. The latest symbol of moral superiority to be brandished like a bludgeon is the WOKE conceit, whereby the US struts around the world proclaiming its primacy in human rights on account of its ostensibly privileged treatment of LGBTQ people, blacks, and other minorities.

One is to choose a structural response which is to demand that the state give them more protection so that they are not gobbled up by corporate capitalists. But the other is to blame their workers for wanting more money.

JARED BALL—Wakanda Forever is its own hopeful title. Forever are we to see our ambitions for a better world in a Wakandan fantasy, one, as Lawrence Grandpre suggests, is based not on culture, or I would add political organization, but on the random divine act of a meteor delivering a plant, and one based on quiet isolation, and ultimate service of empire. Forever are we to have our political aspirations defined, and diverted by Marvel, Disney, and characters created by now dead White men.
