A Debate That Exposed Political Collapse

A debate between a man who has little, if any, understanding of complex geopolitical issues and a brain-dead warmonger who was never the sharpest knife in the drawer has exposed the irreversible decline of the US empire.

If we use a baseball metaphor, Donald Trump looked like a pitcher coming off injured reserve who had trouble getting his pitches over the plate. Trump had one pitch, immigration, and that pitch was placed lazily and haphazardly throughout the debate in a manner that made him appear unprepared and not overly focused on winning the game. In the context of that same metaphor, Joe Biden looked like a player that had been dragged into the dugout and beaten mercilessly about the head and neck with a 54 ounce Louisville slugger.

THE SETUP: The debate was moderated by accomplished ruling class insiders Jake Tapper and Dana Bash. Bash, is a Jewish woman who was born in Washington DC and just happens to be married to a guy who served as Chief of Staff for both the CIA and the Department of Defense. Tapper, who is also Jewish, was born in New York City and once served as press secretary for congressional democrat Marjorie Margolies-Mezvinsky (PA-13). There was no audience and the candidates were not allowed to interrupt each other. When each candidate spoke we were allowed to view the reaction of the other in a side by side screen view. In modern America, being Jewish does not automatically imply support for Zionism, but in this case both moderators have a long history of supporting the Zionist ideology along with an aggressive militaristic US foreign policy. This was clearly intended to be a debate that would in no way stray from the orthodoxy and dogma of empire and militarism.

THE VIEW: There are political analysts who argue that the most important part of the debate is what the audience sees. They claim that you can learn more by watching a debate with the sound off than listening to the conversation of the adversaries. If there is any merit to that argument, Joe Biden had a bad night. The President’s limp eyed open mouth stare created the appearance of a feeble weak old man who may not be able to attend to his daily needs of personal hygiene. Trump looked like.. well.. Trump. He was not particularly energetic and, in a split screen view with Joe Biden, looked to be struggling to decipher the incoherent mumblings of his opponent. This was a massive advantage to Trump.

THE DEBATE: The issue of the night was President Biden’s ability to mitigate the concerns about his competence, and in particular, to overcome the growing chorus of claims that he suffers from an irreversible cognitive decline. On this point, he crapped the bed in the worst possible way.

Biden looked dazed and confused. He was unable to maintain a coherent line of discussion and his words ran together in a manner that sounded like a drunk at closing time trying to convince his friends that he is sober enough to drive. He failed miserably, no keys for you Joe Biden, you’re taking an Uber home tonight. His cringe worthy attempts to go on the attack sounded something like “get off my lawn you little punks, and if your frisbee comes over this fence again I’m keeping it.” Trump mostly avoided the obvious freak show and seemed to spend most of his time straining to understand Biden’s comments, as did we all. Trump was a one trick pony who turned every question into a referendum on immigration. His narcissistic tendencies were glaring as he constantly referred to his alleged accomplishments as the best, greatest ever, and pretty much unmatched in human history. It was clear that Trump had spent little time in preparation and was content to run through his limited list of talking points regardless of whether they were relevant to the issue at hand. Trump was lazy, Biden was intellectually incoherent. Massive…INCALCULABLE advantage to Trump. If there is a single working brain cell amongst the democratic party elites (and I am not convinced that there is) this was a stake through the heart of the Biden campaign. BUT THEN AGAIN…

THE CONSPIRACY THEORY: It’s difficult to imagine a scenario in which the oligarchs were shocked by the outcome of the debate. Joe Biden has been in clear and obvious cognitive decline for years. It was a topic of constant discussion in the alternative media sphere and mainstream articles alleging that he was sharp behind closed doors paradoxically exposed his supporters acknowledgement that the discussion was legitimate. These people worked around Biden on a daily basis and they clearly knew, long ago, that he was “losing his fastball,” to be charitable. That being the case, the blatant rigging of the primaries makes perfect sense. If the elites knew that they were going to replace the President over the summer they could not allow a contender that may not suit the machinations of the neoliberal war machine. RFK Jr. was easy to scrub from the scene. After the October 8th incident, RFK Jr took the position of the ruling elite which was both politically suicidal in that it infuriated his base and setup the conditions for them to insert a CIA operative as his campaign chair. After Dennis Kucinich resigned, RFK Jr brought in former CIA officer Amaryllis Fox Kennedy to run his campaign.

Spurious Spy Now Runs RFK, Jr. Campaign
BY SETH HETTENA

Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s campaign for president is now being run by his daughter-in-law, who happens to be a former employee of the CIA—the same agency that RFK Jr. believes played a role in the 1963 murder of his uncle, the 35th president, and his father…

Her book “Life Undercover: Coming of Age in the CIA” implies the obvious. At any rate, “someone” then convinced Kennedy to exit the Democratic primaries and run as an independent which opened the door for total oligarchic control of the primaries. A number of states then announced that, even though Marianne Williamson and Dean Smith were running in the primaries, they would not allow their names to be placed on the primary ballot and the primaries were effectively rigged. The elites had a clear path to scrap Joe Biden at a time of their choosing and there would be no one in second place to argue that they must be considered as a replacement. In that context, the debate was a setup. They put Joe Biden in a position that they knew would expose his obvious shortcomings and they could then have an open debate about who THEY would replace him with ZERO input from the voters. A perfect storm of elitism and the end of the illusion of democracy. A plan that is so brilliant that the dupes would thank and support their rulers for ending any hope of democratic participation. The greatest con is one in which the mark thanks the con man for taking their money. Their plan was brilliantly diabolical and seems to have worked on a political cult that was so gaslit and brainwashed with Russia gate that they would believe that Martians interfered with the election on behalf of Trump if Rachel Maddow gave them the green light.

Dana Bash Jake Tapper

"Journalists" Jake Tapper and Dana Bash—two reliable Zionist imperialists pitching the questions. The Empire managers didn't have to worry.

POST ELECTION PROPAGANDA: The media was clearly given a narrative to insert after the mother of all debacles for Joe Biden. Donald Trump is an evil liar and Joe Biden, despite his obvious short comings, is a decent human being who was merely a victim of a cold, a lifelong stutter, and possibly.. just maybe.. a teeny weeny bit of cognitive decline. But after all, who would you rather have, a good guy who makes a few minor errors in good faith or an evil pathological liar. The interesting twist to this fable is that the party elites are open and honest about Biden’s issue while the every day voters post memes such as this.

Kimmel quote

The party rank and file is so brainwashed that their leaders can openly admit that Biden is damn near catatonic and they will grasp pathetic super hero memes that defy reality. I present this as incontrovertible evidence that the US political parties have become little more than brainwashed cults.

Biden Trump debate

LOOKING FORWARD: This prediction is easy. The party elites will replace Joe Biden. The most likely choice is the guy that they have been parading around for the last year as a shadow nominee. The fact that we were told in February that Gavin Newsome would not replace Joe Biden makes it clear that he is the choice and the setup is almost complete. The last domino to fall is to double down on the lawfare against Donald Trump, jail or otherwise remove him from the race, and make sure that the GOP presents some iteration of John McCain (Nikki Haley?) in a “heads we win tales you lose” scenario for the voters.

How Venezuela Is Overcoming the US Blockade

Be sure to share these materials with friends, kin, and workmates.

By Roger D. Harris

The future of Venezuela’s Bolivarian Revolution, a target of US imperial power since its inception in 1998, may be decided on July 28, the date of their presidential election.

resolution was introduced on June 18 to the US Congress not to recognize a “fraudulent” Maduro victory.

President Maduro (fourth from left), along with the Bolivarian forces' top command, celebrates Venezuela's independence victory at the Battle of Carabobo (24 Jun 2024)

This election is taking place in the context of US unilateral coercive measures. These so-called sanctions have amounted to an actual economic and financial blockade designed to cripple the economy and cause the people to renounce their government. Such outside interference by Washington is tantamount to electoral blackmail.

Yet Carlos Ron, Venezuela’s deputy minister of foreign affairs for North America, is confident that the government party will win. He spoke on June 25 at a webinar organized by the Venezuela Solidarity Network.

Ron explained that the Venezuelan people and government have achieved remarkable progress, resisting Washington’s “maximum pressure” campaign. A tanking economy has now been reversed. By the end of 2023, Venezuela had recorded 11 quarters of consecutive growth after years of economic contraction.

Instead of irrevocably crashing the economy, according to Ron, the US hybrid warfare against Venezuela exposed the US-backed opposition, who have called for sanctions against their own people and have even treasonously endorsed a US-backed military coup option.

Economist Yosmer Arellán, who is associated with the Central Bank of Venezuela and has collaborated with the UN Special Rapporteur on the impact of unilateral coercive measures, also addressed the webinar. Arellán spoke of the pain visited upon the Venezuelan people by the US sanctions.

The economist explained that the economy was further impacted by the crash in oil prices, beginning in 2014, as well as by overcompliance with the economic coercive measures by third-parties fearful of US reprisals. Then Covid hit. During the height of the pandemic, even though Venezuela had the hard currency, US sanctions blocked the financial transactions necessary to buy vaccines. He likened such measures to “bombs dropped on our society.”

In contrast, Venezuela’s economic situation is now looking comparatively bullish. On the same day as the webinar, President Maduro announced oil production had recovered to one million barrels a day. Earlier this month, the five millionth home was delivered as part of the Great Housing Mission social program.

Arellán described what he called the three-step “virtuous formula” for recovering the economy. This is a model, he added, for the some one third of humanity being punished by US unilateral coercive measures.

First came resistance in the face of the “extortion” of the unilateral coercive measures. Venezuela learned through trial and error how to do more with less. Out of necessity, the country began to wean itself from dependence on oil revenues which had fallen over 90%. Small and medium businesses were promoted. The private sector, despite being prone to oppose the socialist project, was also punished by the US measures. Today, big business is investing more in domestic productive capacity, according to Arellán.

inflation got down to 1.2%, a previously unheard of low rate.

Third has been the recovery stage, transforming the economy from one dependent on oil revenues to buy foreign goods to one that is now over 90% food sovereign. The economy is being diversified with the sober understanding that relief from the US imperialist hybrid war is unlikely in the near future.

CITGO, the state-owned oil subsidiary in the US; and confiscation of gold reserves held abroad.

The “perversity of sanctions,” according to Ron, is that they undermine the social functions of the state to support the welfare of the people. That is, they try to cripple the government in order to make socialism look bad.

Ron gave the example of the 16% malnutrition rate when Hugo Chávez was elected president in 1998. By 2011, the rate was reduced to only 3%. But with the US maximum pressure campaign, the rate shot up to 13% (still better than before the revolution but punishing nonetheless).

Venezuela experienced record out migration. This emigration was not due, as claimed by the US, to political persecution but was precipitated by worsening economic prospects caused primarily by the US politically-motivated sanctions. But now, Ron explained, citizens are returning to Venezuela and a new vice-ministry to assist their return has been created.

Washington tried to isolate Venezuela both financially and diplomatically. Four years ago the US and some 50 of its allies recognized the parallel government of “interim president” Juan Guaidó, who had never even run for national office in Venezuela. Today only the US, Israel, and a few others still fail to recognize the elected government.

Meanwhile, Venezuela has forged significant new economic and political ties with Russia, China, Turkey, and Iran among others. Regional alliances with Cuba, Nicaragua, Bolivia, and some Caribbean states, such as ALBA, have been strengthened. Close cooperative relations have been reinforced with friendly governments in BrazilMexico, and Colombia, three of the four leading economies in Latin America.  And Venezuela is orienting toward the Global South, with the possibility of joining the expanded BRICS+ alliance of emerging economies looking increasingly likely.

Indeed, far from being isolated, Ron noted, Venezuela has further integrated into an emerging multipolar world. Venezuela was just elected to a vice-presidency of the UN General Assembly.

Ron credited current successes to the political will of a strong and unwavering leadership under President Maduro, which he characterized as a “collective leadership” encompassing many actors. This was coupled with organized “people power.” Both, he emphasized, were needed. Venezuela, he concluded, demonstrated the people’s willingness to face challenges and a government that did not give up on the battle for socialism.

The CPI’s manifesto for rebuilding what communists in the USA have lost

Upon finishing the Center for Political Innovation’s Out of the Movement, to The Masses: Anti-Imperialist Organizing in America, I’ve come away with the sense that it was written out of both sadness over what U.S. communists have lost, and genuine hope that we can regain it. It’s necessary, to an extent, to mourn the great mass movement which got taken away from us during the 20th century. But this mourning needs to be done for the purpose of invigorating our efforts towards building something new. Towards reconnecting Marxism with this country’s people, and thereby connecting this country’s people with the global masses who are struggling against imperialism.

Much of what Caleb Maupin and the book’s other authors have done is compile writings by American communists from this last century, and by non-American communists (like Rosa Luxemburg) who have special things to contribute to our struggle in this country. They’ve republished writings by Marxist-Leninists like William Z. Foster and Gus Hall, as well as by figures who’ve deviated from Marxism-Leninism like Bob Avakian and Sam Marcy. For the book’s purposes of learning from history, the important thing is that all of these people have things to teach us. So their evaluations of the class struggle during the times when they wrote these things have been put into this record, able to go towards building the important argument which this book makes.

The idea this work conveys can be summarized as: what the USA’s communists built has been destroyed by both the state, and the actors within the communist movement who’ve made mistakes which aid the state. And the only way we can make the legacy of the past U.S. communists matter, and use their ideas to build another successful version of U.S. communism, is if we avoid repeating those errors.

A key part of this lesson is understanding the dual nature of Sam Marcy, one of the pivotal figures within 20th century U.S. communism. As the book makes clear, Marcy may have been a Trotskyist, but he was not one of the deranged kinds of Trots who single-mindedly attacked the Soviet Union. He actually had a geopolitical analysis with depth, and saw that being an anti-imperialist means not treating the imperialist and anti-imperialist blocs in the same way. For this reason, Marcy’s Workers World Party (and its offshoot the PSL) have avoided the destructive theoretical error the Maoists made, where they came to view the USSR as “social imperialist.” Such willingness on the part of the Marcyists to reject that particular type of dogmatic opportunism has made the Marcyist parties able to attract many anti-imperialist minded people over the decades. But within the ideology that Marcy formulated, there was a crucial flaw, one that would produce the different type of opportunism which PSL is now advancing.

One of the things that came from Marcy’s synthesis between Trotskyism and Marxism-Leninism was a strategy of aligning with liberal Democrats and the left. This was rationalized by how during much of the Cold War, especially the McCarthy era amd the Reagan era, the liberals were on the defensive against a dominant hard right-wing. The mindset such a practice created among Marcyism’s adherents was so strong that it blinded them. It made them unwilling to change their strategy when the country underwent a political reorientation, and the conservative base reacted to the 2008 crisis by turning against the war machine. Today’s Marcyists put forth a deteriorated version of Marcy’s teachings, where they tail the Democrats on the culture wars to show that no one outside the left is welcome in their circles.

The book makes it apparent that the solution isn’t to simply restore the original Marcyism, because Marcyism’s strategy was always flawed. As the book recounts, during the 80s the Marcyists would argue against capitalism by uniformly calling the capitalist state’s policies “racist.” Which they weren’t wrong about, but the effect this had was to reduce capitalism to race. It was a way of signaling that liberals could find a friend in the WWP, which evidently didn’t bring WWP to success. It couldn’t rebuild U.S. communism following its crippling by McCarthyism, and its next big defeat with the destruction of the Black Panther Party.

The explanation for this Maupin comes to is that WWP’s leaders view the masses as fundamentally reactionary: “The reason WWP has often hidden its Communist beliefs and talked about ‘jobs’ and other things assumed to be ‘more working class’ is because deep down, many of the high-ranking members believe that the working class are a crowd of dumb bubbas who couldn’t possibly understand Communism. The low ideological level of WWP’s literature is based on an inherent feeling of superiority. However, when one gets to know a large number of the WWP cadre, one realizes that despite their feelings of superiority, the rank and file of the party often cannot explain basic Marxist concepts.”

Due to WWP’s opportunistic activities, it’s since declined into irrelevancy. But its mode of practice has been replicated by the PSL, and therefore represents the primary form of petty-bourgeois radicalism today. Marcy did not share such a smug view of the people, but the leaders who’ve operated according to his practice certainly do. And the positive aspects of Marcy’s ideology are being used by these figures to keep Marxism-Leninism under the domination of their opportunistic project. PSL’s Brian Becker, one of the individuals who picked up organizational skills from Marcy, is putting forth a brand that’s ostensibly aligned with existing socialism but really acts to launder liberal ideas. Ideas like critically supporting social democrats, like Becker did with Sanders in 2020, and like taking a “neither NATO nor Russia” stance on Ukraine.

Though the book doesn’t go into as much detail about the PSL’s opportunism as Maupin unusually does, it refutes Becker’s core ideas by showing how they’re the same things that have driven WWP to ruin. Even if PSL doesn’t become irrelevant, it’s not going to win the people, which is what’s truly important. The book’s conclusion is that we need to break from the movementist model which has come to define U.S. communism, and recapture the old movement’s success at connecting with the masses. In the last section, CPI’s president Elizabeth Young says: “We take up the directive to get past the western leftist held spaces and methods, the US radical nostalgia and the elitist phrases disguised as Marxism and instead actually approach working class people with an anti-war message and economic populist program of demands.”
