Liberals Beware: Lie Down With Dogs, Get Up With Fleas

The New York Times is currently engaged in one of its most ambitious projects: Removing a sitting president from office. In fact, Times columnist Nicolas Kristof (main image above) even said as much in a recent article titled  “How Can We Get Rid of Trump?”

Frankly, it’s an idea that I find attractive, mainly because I think Trump’s views on immigration, the environment, human rights, civil liberties and deregulation are so uniformly horrible, they could destroy the country.   But the Times objections are different from my own. The reason the Times wants Trump removed is because Trump wants to normalize relations with Russia which threatens to undermine Washington’s effort to project US power deeper into Central Asia.

Dean Baquet, NY Times editor and current Disinformer in Chief. At its most vile and devious, the empire requires constant tokenism to fool the masses. That’s the pitfall of PC politics as used by the ruling class. Symbols—like race—are used to destroy substance. The NYTimes is a political publication that crafts a political narrative reflecting the views of politically-minded elites whose strategic objectives cannot be achieved without more brainwashing, more coercion and more war. Dean Banquet, like Obama, is happy to oblige.

Trump’s decision to normalize relations with Moscow poses a direct threat to Washington’s broader imperial strategy to control China’s growth, topple Putin, spread military bases across Central Asia, implement trade agreements that maintain the dominant role of western-owned mega-corporations, and derail attempts by Russia and China to link the wealthy EU to Asia by expanding the web of pipeline corridors and high-speed rail that will draw the continents closer together creating the largest and most populous free trade zone the world has ever seen.

This is what the US foreign policy establishment and, by inclusion, the Times are trying to avoid at all cost. The economic integration of Asia and Europe must be blocked to preserve Washington’s hegemonic grip on world power. That’s the whole deal in a nutshell.

So don’t be fooled, the Times doesn’t care any more about the suffering of immigrant families who have been victimized by Trump’s extremist policies than they do about the three million refugees that have fled America’s wars in Libya and Syria.  The fact that the Times continues to mischaracterize this vast human exodus as some sort of natural disaster instead of the predictable spillover from persistent US aggression, just confirms the fact that the Times is not a reliable source of unbiased information at all. It is a political publication that crafts a political narrative reflecting the views of politically-minded elites whose strategic objectives cannot be achieved without more brainwashing, more coercion and more war.

Let’s consider, for a minute, the Times article that precipitated the current furor over Trump’s alleged connection to Russian intelligence. This is the article that’s been held up by numerous members of congress and the media as ironclad proof of Trump’s collusion with Moscow. Here’s an excerpt from the article:

“Phone records and intercepted calls show that members of Donald J. Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign and other Trump associates had repeated contacts with senior Russian intelligence officials in the year before the election, according to four current and former American officials.

American law enforcement and intelligence agencies intercepted the communications around the same time they were discovering evidence that Russia was trying to disrupt the presidential election by hacking into the Democratic National Committee, three of the officials said. The intelligence agencies then sought to learn whether the Trump campaign was colluding with the Russians on the hacking or other efforts to influence the election.” (“Trump Campaign Aides Had Repeated Contacts With Russian Intelligence”, New York Times)

There’s no reason to read any further, because the entire article follows this same basic pattern, that is, the article is shaped to create the impression that the Trump camp teamed up with the Russians to torpedo Hillary’s campaign. Unfortunately, the Times presents no hard evidence that the “call logs and intercepted communications (that) are part of a larger trove of information that the F.B.I.” even exist. Nor have they proved that anyone in the Trump camp ever communicated with people in Russia (excluding Michael Flynn, of course) let alone, collaborated to undermine the presidential election. It’s all 100% uncorroborated fluff.

This is what the US foreign policy establishment and, by inclusion, the Times are trying to avoid at all cost.

So what’s going on here? Why would the Times run an article alleging impeachable offenses –which has sharpened the attacks on Trump by his critics in the media, the congress and in foreign capitals– without providing any evidence that their claims are true? None of the intelligence agents cited in the article have come forward and identified themselves (as one might expect when the charges are this serious), and as the Times admits, “The F.B.I. declined to comment.”

So they have nothing, right?

One can only conclude that the real intention of the article was to generate as much suspicion as possible –in order to damage to Trump as much as possible– without really saying much of anything, that is,  to create the impression of wrongdoing without providing any proof of wrongdoing.   And, in that regard, the Times certainly succeeded. It has been a very impressive smear campaign.

(By the way, in a Sunday morning interview on Fox News White House chief of staff Reince Priebus said that top intelligence officials told him that their was no collusion between Trump’s people and Russia. Priebus said that “top-level people,” in the intelligence community told him “that that story in the New York Times is complete garbage. And quite frankly, they used different words than that.”

Not surprisingly, Fox News host Chris Wallace demanded that Priebus reveal his sources, a demand that Wallace never made of the Times.)

Here’s more from the Times piece:

“The intercepted calls are different from the wiretapped conversations last year between Michael T. Flynn, Mr. Trump’s former national security adviser, and Sergey I. Kislyak, Russia’s ambassador to the United States. In those calls, which led to Mr. Flynn’s resignation on Monday night, the two men discussed sanctions that the Obama administration imposed on Russia in December.”

More disinformation. So far, all we know about Flynn’s conversations was that he said that the administration would “review” the newly-imposed sanctions when after Trump was sworn in as president. There’s no evidence at all that Flynn did something illegal or in violation of the Logan Act. None. The media has used the incident to suggest that illicit activities had taken place when in fact, there is no evidence of wrongdoing at all. As far as we know, Flynn was just doing his job.

What’s more interesting is the fact that Obama decided to impose the new sanctions on Russia in late December (after Trump had already been elected) knowing that Trump probably wouldn’t support the sanctions.

That seems strange, don’t you think? Why would Obama do something so disrespectful at the eleventh hour unless he had something else up his sleeve?  Was Obama setting a trap to get rid of the man who was the driving-force behind better relations with Russia? (Flynn)

I don’t know, but the facts are pretty suspicious.  First, Obama imposed the sanctions in late December knowing that Trump would oppose them.

Second, Obama knew that Russia would want to discuss the sanctions with Flynn, right?

Right. So was it a trap set by Obama to trip-up Flynn?

Maybe “yes”,  maybe “no”. It’s hard to say. But what we know is that 17 days before Obama left office, he issued an executive order expanding the powers of the NSA “to share globally intercepted personal communications with the government’s 16 other intelligence agencies before applying privacy protections.” (NYT)

Why does that matter?

It matters because Flynn had already had his conversation with the Russian ambassador, so if the Intel agency that illegally gathered the information wanted to escape prosecution, the best way to do that would be to spread the information around to other agencies making it impossible to hold any one agency accountable. Simply put: They were taking the precautionary step of removing their bloody fingerprints from the murder weapon.

Check this out from Zero Hedge:  “According to civil rights expert and prominent First Amendment Supreme Court lawyer, Jay Sekulow, what the agencies did by leaking the Trump Administration information was not only illegal but “almost becomes a soft coup”, one which was spurred by the last minute rule-change by Obama, who intentionally made it far easier for leaks to propagate, and next to impossible to catch those responsible for the leaks…

This is his explanation:

‘There was a sea-change here at the NSA with an order that came from president Obama 17 days before he left office where he allowed the NSA who used to control the data, it now goes to 16 other agencies and that just festered this whole leaking situation, and that happened on the way out, as the president was leaving the office.

Why did the Obama administration wait until it had 17 days left in their administration to put this order in place if they thought it was so important. They had 8 years, they didn’t do it, number one. Number two, it changed the exiting rule which was an executive order dating back to Ronald Reagan, that has been in place until 17 days before the Obama administration was going to end, that said the NSA gets the raw data, and they determine dissemination.

Instead, this change that the president put in place, signed off by the way by James Clapper on December 15, 2016, signed off by Loretta Lynch the Attorney General January 3, 2017, they decide that now 16 agencies can get the raw data and what that does is almost creates a shadow government. You have all these people who are not agreeing with President Trump’s position, so it just festers more leaks.

If they had a justification for this, wonderful, why didn’t they do it 8 years ago, 4 years ago, 3 years ago. Yet they wait until 17 days left.’

One potential answer: They knew they had a “smoking gun”, and were working to make it easier to enable the information to be “leaked” despite the clearly criminal consequences of such dissemination.”  (“Jay Sekulow: Obama Should Be “Held Accountable” For The “Soft Coup” Against Trump“, Zero Hedge)

It’s an intriguing twist to the larger story, but it is not one that I can independently verify. Besides, what really concerns me is the emerging alliance between the Dems, the agenda-driven media, the deep-state agencies, the all-powerful foreign policy establishment and the progressives that are desperate to get rid of Trump by hook or crook. Glenn Greenwald summed it up perfectly in a recent post at The Intercept. He said:

“I happen to think that the Trump presidency is extremely dangerous…. They want to dismantle the environment. They want to eliminate the safety net. They want to empower billionaires. They want to enact bigoted policies against Muslims and immigrants and so many others. And it is important to resist them. …(But) if you’re somebody who believes that both the CIA and the deep state, on the one hand, and the Trump presidency, on the other, are extremely dangerous, as I do, there’s a huge difference between the two, which is that Trump was democratically elected and is subject to democratic controls… But on the other hand, the CIA was elected by nobody. They’re barely subject to democratic controls at all. And so, to urge that the CIA and the intelligence community empower itself to undermine the elected branches of government is insanity. That is a prescription for destroying democracy overnight in the name of saving it.” (“Greenwald: Empowering the “Deep State” to Undermine Trump is Prescription for Destroying Democracy“, Democracy Now)

In other words, if you lie down with dogs, you’ll get up with fleas. Leftists should avoid the temptation of aligning themselves with groups and agencies that might help them achieve their short-term goal of removing Trump, but ultimately move them closer to a de facto 1984 lock-down police state. Misplaced support for the deep state Russophobes will only strengthen the national security state’s stranglehold on  power. That’s not a path to victory, it’s a path to annihilation.

War on Digital Democracy

black-horizontalDispatches from
STEPHEN LENDMAN

stevenlendmanbanner

Google and Facebook changed their advertising policy to counter what they call “fake news.” They’re at war with digital democracy, increasingly wanting media scoundrel managed news misinformation and Big Lies featured over alternative content. During the US presidential election campaign, Google supported Hillary, rigged searches for her with positive news to sway undecided voters in her favor.

Cover image: Ajit Pai, Trump’s FCC chief honcho. “The days of Net Neutrality are numbered.”

 …
Trump’s new FCC chairman Ajit Pai said Net Neutrality’s days are “numbered.” He’s taking steps to undermine digital democracy, [the ability to] let users access all content without restrictions, limitations, or discrimination, an online level playing field for everyone.
 …
What’s ongoing began before Trump’s ascension to power. Obama was obsessed with secrecy. Famed journalist Helen Thomas blasted what she called his press-controlling efforts, saying his actions were “blatant.” Net Neutrality is the last frontier of press freedom. Obama prioritized secret monitoring, targeted dissent, aimed to suppress truth and full disclosure, wanted digital democracy curbed. He elevated information control to an unprecedented level, targeted more whistleblowers than all his predecessors combined, and shunned transparency he pledged to prioritize if elected. He monitored journalists, accessed their phone records, read their emails, tracked their personal movements, sought to assure nothing he wanted suppressed was made public.
 ..
The war on digital freedom continues. Efforts are being made to silence Infowars, the Alex Jones web site. The ad agency AdRoll providing a major source of its revenue pulled the plug on him, jeopardizing the operation’s viability. Its web site blasted online censorship, saying “(i)n an attempt to damage the power of our message, they have tried to hit us where it hurts by removing an important pillar of our income that keeps the Infowar funded.” The Mike Adams Natural News (NS) web site in being attacked for promoting alternative ways of staying healthy. Blacklisted by Google, 140,000 pages were removed from its search index, including material on harmful vaccines, “pharma corruption, and fraudulent science,” NS saying:
 …
Google’s delisting “instantly wip(ed) out a treasure trove of truly lifesaving knowledge about disease prevention, nutritional therapies, avoidance of toxins and the dangers of chemical medications (among other topics that also include opinion pieces, political analysis, health warnings and more).” Google, Facebook and other online gatekeepers are part of a modern-day Orwellian ministry of truth, featuring mainstream fake news, filtering out alternative sources of the real thing.
 …
Free societies depend on speech, press and academic freedoms. Without them all other rights are endangered.

Why it is Time to Move On from MoveOn.org and the Non-Profit Industrial Complex

horiz grey line

tgplogo12313

by Danny Haiphong

“The underlying motivation of non-profits [is] to turn revolutionary movements into lucrative career opportunities.”

The next stop was a Community Action Program (CAP). CAP agencies have their roots in the first wave of non-profits as legal entities in the United States. They sprouted from federal funds administered by the War on Poverty programs of the Lyndon Johnson era. These agencies provided essential anti-poverty services and were often run by community members themselves. However, the purpose behind CAP agencies was far from benevolent. Johnson and his ruling class masters sought to subvert and break the independent character of the Black liberation and anti-imperialist movements of the period by turning “tax-eaters” (Black Americans) into “tax-payers.” The underlying motivation of non-profits to turn revolutionary movements into lucrative career opportunities has existed since their inception.

“Non-profits give corporate donors an avenue to receive additional tax-free privileges with an added public relations boost.”

This is not to say that non-profits have not gone through significant changes since the War on Poverty. In the last forty years of neo-liberal capitalist crisis, CAP agencies have become nearly non-existent due to a shortage of federal funds. Housing programs have suffered chronic underfunding as a result of consistent reductions in the size of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), beginning in the Reagan era. HUD was stripped of 77 percent of its budget authority from 1978-1983. The CAP agency that I worked for eventually shut its doors due to a default in a private bank loan in 2014. The loan was taken out to keep the agency viable in the midst of dwindling federal and state funds. Hundreds of homeless individuals and families lost vital housing assistance and thousands more lost access to emergency transportation, food, and legal services.

bankrolled by Goldman Sachs. It is also apparent in the correlation between the increase of non-profits in the arena of homelessness and the reduction of available public housing units in cities across the country. Non-profits give corporate donors an avenue to receive additional tax-free privileges with an added public relations boost. Much of the money donated is returned two-fold through tax breaks and further speculation in the housing, education, and healthcare sectors increasingly made possible by an environment of privatization.

“MoveOn.org is a loyal servant of the Democratic Party.”

Imperial Corporatist Democrat Nancy Pelosi is MoveOn’s idea of authentic democracy.

[dropcap]N[/dropcap]on-profits have also been deployed by their ruling class funders to privatize social movements. An array of tax-exempt organizations has arisen to channel popular resistance into acceptable means of protest. During Occupy Wall Street, the non-governmental organization (NGO) CANVAS took center stage at many of the New York City rallies. The Black Lives Matter movement drew significant interest from a consortium of non-profits after receiving millions from the Ford Foundation and Google in 2015 and 2016. These interventions have blunted the messaging and activities of organizations sucked into the non-profit industry while leaving genuine activists without the resources to sustain consistent political activity.

The influence of the non-profit industrial complex is evident in the protests against President Donald Trump. The non-profit MoveOn.org has taken on a leadership role in the protests. This author attended a local sanctuary city rally where every sign carried by protesters possessed the “MoveOn.org” label. It is clear that the folks at MoveOn.Org have been playing a key role in the resistance against Trump. But who is behind the MoveOn.org brand and whose interests does the organization serve?

Facebook cofounder Dustin Moskovitz with MoveOn/Hillary funder wife Cari Tuna. Zionist interests, Democratic Party politics.

A cursory look into the organization’s finances indicates that MoveOn.org is a loyal servant of the Democratic Party. The organization’s finances from 2015 include large donations of over 250,000 from the organization “J Street” and billionaire Cari Tuna. J Street is a Zionist organization dedicated to developing liberal acceptance to the settler occupation of Palestine among college students. Tuna’s fortunes derive from her marital partnership with co-founder of Facebook Dustin Moskovitz. Tuna spends most of her time as a “philanthropist.” Her donations include a hefty 20 million dollars to Hillary Clinton’s 2016 campaign, which was distributed among a consortium of Clinton affiliated PACs. In addition, MoveOn.org is also financed by billionaire George Soros’ Open Society Foundation. Soros, despite the conspiratorial machinations regarding his political influence, is well-known around the world as a sponsor of “color revolutions” dedicated to the overthrow of governments that resist the penetration of US monopoly capitalism.

“The interests of those supplying funds to non-profits like MoveOn.org are not aligned with the interests of oppressed and working people regardless of how the organization is advertised.”

Non-profits are ultimately bound by the interests of their funders. MoveOn.org is no different. The organization’s Democratic Party funding sources have one goal and one goal only: to regain Democratic Party control of all three branches of governance in Washington. First, they hope to remove Trump in order to credit the organization with a temporary, albeit symbolic, victory for the Democrats. The next step is to win control of Congress in 2018. The interests of those supplying funds to non-profits like MoveOn.org are not aligned with the interests of oppressed and working people regardless of how the organization is advertised.

In fact, because big corporate donors control the terms and conditions of “social movement” non-profits, any social movements led by these institutions represent a threat to the independent political power of exploited and oppressed people. MoveOn.org’s mission to transfer power back to the Democratic Party is a familiar act, one that is repeated whenever the Republican Party regains Presidential and Congressional control of the state. Their big corporate donors possess zero interest in stopping the bipartisan crimes carried out by Washington. No petitions have been filed by the folks at MoveOn.org for reparations to nations, such as Libya and Syria, which were completely destroyed by the Democratic Party. MoveOn.org prides itself for exposing the corporate ties of the Republicans but is perfectly content with the corporate ties of the Democratic Party.

Wall Street’s cumbersome donations to the Obama campaign or how the Democratic Party facilitated the largest wealth transfer to the 1 percent in US history. MoveOn.org didn’t condemn Obama’s war on whistle blowers nor did it advocate for single payer healthcare when the Democratic Party held majorities in Congress. Neither Obama’s “Grand Bargain” to cut Social Security and Medicare nor his national assault on public education compelled MoveOn.org to take any action against its Democratic Party sugar daddies.

The case of the non-profit MoveOn.org provides an in-depth look into the broader function of non-profit industrial complex. While some individual non-profits administer vital services to the poor and working class, the non-profit industrial complex as a whole possesses a parasitic agenda. That agenda is to break the independent character of working class mobilization and organization, not develop it. Non-profits do this by turning resistance into a career opportunity managed and funded by the 1 percent. The development of an independent, working class-centered movement will require a mass rejection of non-profit funds and structures. Let us remember this as MoveOn.org continues to mobilize its base against the increasingly unstable Trump Administration.

Yes, we did fool you for eight long years.

CIA-Controlled False Media, Hillary Dems, Cities Bomber McCain Demand War With & Destruction of Russia

horiz grey line

tgplogo12313

By Jay Janson
Resident Historian, Contributing Editor at Large

T

Main photo: Chief US Judge Prosecutor at Nazi Nuremberg trials Robert Jackson. Most postwar White House occupants and their numerous accomplices in the political class and media amply qualify today as defendants before such a tribunal.

‘What? our ‘crazy’ president’s National Security Advisor was making nice with a Russian ambassador even before he was appointed? We got ‘em! It’s against the law! ‘

Thus spoke media spokespersons for Wall Street’s investors in profitable genocide, fans of overseas death-and-destruction specialist Hillary Clinton, and America’s Darth Vader Senator and hero of twenty-three bombing runs over Vietnamese cities, John McCain. This was jubilantly reported, with great fanfare and coverage, by CIA-fed mainstream media [1] dwarfing coverage of all issues of importance to the citizens of the USA.
 …
The ‘law,’ the spooks in media and government pimping for the powerful elite investors in WMD and the Financial Military Industrial Complex are hollering about, is a never ever used 1798 act of Congress passed against a peace seeking Quaker doctor who rather convincingly spoke to members of the French government in defense of his country, and was later elected US Senator.
 ..
Here below is the history and text of the never used and probably unconstitutional 1798 Logan Act those demanding confrontation war with Russia are enthusiastically citing, and immediately below it readers will find real laws that have been used against those who commit crimes against humanity and crime against peace cited here by your archival research peoples historian writing under the guidance of former US Attorney General Ramsey Clark.
 ..
According to the Legal Dictionary[http://legal-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/Logan+Act ]:

In the late 1790s, a French trade embargo and jailing of U.S. seamen created animosity and unstable conditions between the United States and France. Logan sailed to France in the hope of presenting options to its government to improve relations with the United States and quell the growing anti-French sentiment in the United States. France responded by lifting the embargo and releasing the captives. Logan’s return to the United States was marked by Republican praise and Federalist scorn. To prevent U.S. citizens from interfering with negotiations between the United States and foreign governments in the future, the Adams administration quickly introduced the bill that would become the Logan Act.

The Logan Act has remained almost unchanged and unused since its passage. The act is short and reads as follows:
 ..
Any citizen of the United States, wherever he may be, who, without authority of the United States, directly or indirectly commences or carries on any correspondence or intercourse with any foreign government or any officer or agent thereof, with intent to influence the measures or conduct of any foreign government or of any officer or agent thereof, in relation to any disputes or controversies with the United States, or to defeat the measures of the United States, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years, or both.
This section shall not abridge the right of a citizen to apply, himself or his agent, to any foreign government or the agents thereof for redress of any injury which he may have sustained from such government or any of its agents or subjects.
 ..
The language of the act appears to encompass almost every communication between a U.S. citizen and a foreign government considered an attempt to influence negotiations between their two countries. Because the language is so broad in scope, legal scholars and judges have suggested that the Logan Act is unconstitutional. Historically, the act has been used more as a threat to those engaged in various political activities than as a weapon for prosecution. In fact, Logan Act violations have been discussed in almost every administration without any serious attempt at enforcement, and to date there have been no convictions and only one recorded indictment.
..
One example of the act’s use as a threat of prosecution involved the Reverend Jesse jackson. In 1984 Jackson took well-publicized trips to Cuba and Nicaragua and returned with several Cuban political prisoners seeking asylum in the United States. President Ronald Reagan stated that Jackson’s activities may have violated the law, but Jackson was not pursued beyond a threat.
..
The only Logan Act indictment occurred in 1803. It involved a Kentucky newspaper article that argued for the formation in the western United States of a separate nation allied to France. No prosecution followed.[For more history of the Logan Act see End Note [2]

By contrast to the above unproven as constitutional and never used Logan Act, former US Attorney General Ramsey Clark (left) points out that common law in every country against breaking into someone’s home and killing its occupants, brings a punishment, once one is convicted, of death by hanging, electric chair, firing squad or whatever, in half the countries in the world. After the Second World War, the Nuremberg Principles of International Law extended this common law to include the invasion, bombing, killing or causing suffering to the population of another country as prosecutable crimes against humanity and crimes against peace.

[dropcap]I[/dropcap]n 1945, many Nazi German military officers, government officials, and media personalities were convicted under these laws during trials in Nuremberg, Germany, and quite a few of those convicted were hanged. Judge Robert Jackson, the Chief Prosecutor at the Nuremberg trials of Nazis , had cautioned that “these laws are not only meant for Germans, but for all nations,” and ended the Preface to his Final Report with, “at long last the law is now unequivocal in classifying armed aggression as an international crime instead of a national right.”[3] (The Germans under the Nazis had invaded less than half the number of nations the US has invaded since then [4])

Nazi hierarchs during proceedings at Nuremberg. Hundreds of US politicians, and media shills. including several presidents, could easily qualify these days for similar crimes against humanity. It is only overwhelming military might and an enormous disinformation machine that keeps these men from having to answer for their numerous offenses.

What we have been hearing from ‘Fake News Media’ , for as long as anyone can remember, are fake reasons why it would be well, or was well, that Americans invade(d) small, usually always poor countries, which were formerly occupied militarily as colonies of European empires, the United States of America or the Japanese Empire. This gigantic cartel of entertainment and information conglomerates reaching everyone from cradle to grave, finally identified as producing fake news, has been producing this fake news to push Americans into committing massive deadly violence for the profit of the financial element in the centers of power that have ruled the America nation from its beginnings.[5] Since the Nuremberg Principles became international law after WWII, this massive and deadly violence has been crimes against humanity and crimes against peace, a huge amount of them also punishable under the Convention on Genocide. We don’t ever hear this international law of great impact for all humanity, ‘The Nuremberg Principles,’ mentioned in what the new US president, Donald Trump calls “Fake News Media.”[6] If would be even more educating if the president would describe ‘Fake News Media’ for what it is, namely, the criminal US cartel of entertainment and information conglomerates controlling 98+% of all print publications and misusing the public owned broadcasting frequencies to promote profitable but genocidal use of US armed forces and CIA. However, Trump did go so far as to tell the truth in that he twitted the “news media is an enemy of the American people.” [6]
 …
In 1950, Albert Einstein gave an even more severe warning as to why our civilization continues to be “like an axe in the hand of the pathological criminal,”[7]: “Under existing conditions, private capitalists inevitably control, directly or indirectly, the main sources of information (press, radio, education). It is thus extremely difficult, and indeed in most cases quite impossible, for the individual citizen to come to objective conclusions and to make intelligent use of his political rights.” Albert Einstein, Essays in Humanism
 …

Tightly monopolized Fake News Media has over the years managed to establish in the minds of most of its captive viewers and readers that all military personnel who have participated in US invasions, bombings and military occupations are automatically heroes to one degree or another, regardless of the inescapably clear Nuremberg Principles of International Law that state unequivocally to the contrary:

crime under international law is responsible therefore and liable to punishment.”

internal law does not impose a penalty for an act which constitutes a crime under international law does not relieve the person who committed the act from responsibility under international law.”

IV. “The fact that a person acted pursuant to order of his Government or of a superior does not relieve him from responsibility under international law, provided a moral choice was in fact possible to him”. This principle could be paraphrased as follows: “It is not an acceptable excuse to say ‘I was just following my superior’s orders'”.

  1. “The crimes hereinafter set out are punishable as crimes under international law:  Crimes against peace: Planning, preparation, initiation or waging of a war of aggression or a war in violation of international treaties, agreements or assurances;  Crimes against humanity: Murder, extermination, enslavement, deportation and other inhumane acts done against any civilian population, or persecutions on political, racial, or religious grounds, when such acts are done or such persecutions are carried on in execution of or in connection with any crime against peace.
  2. “Complicity in the commission of a crime against peace … or a crime against humanity as set forth in Principle VI is a crime under international law.”

V.  “Any person charged with a crime under international law has the right to a fair trial on the facts and law.”

Your author lists the above six parts of the laws born at Nuremberg in the order of importance to a GI participating in breaking these international laws, which are not only part of the UN Charter, but are, according to no less an authority as former US Attorney General Ramsey Clark, “by Article Six of the US Constitution, an integral part of the law of the land”

Unfortunately, despite criminal US media even reaching into schools to block awareness of international law, ignorance of the law, is no excuse in any court of law. Also, arguing, ‘well, everyone else was doing it’ is not accepted as defense. For the GI contemplating obeying criminal orders, the US Army Manual states that though “soldiers are told not to assess the legal consequences of their orders, if the orders require manifest criminality, the soldier must disobey them, however disadvantageous this may prove from the tactical-military point of view. Obeying such an [unlawful] order can result in criminal prosecution of the one who obeys it.[8]

The CIA, an arm of the power elite investors in WMD, invasions and bombings and the source of fake news and fake patriotism has, for the first time, a problem with a US president.

Every one of the millions of American GIs, ordered to ship out to invade a foreign country should, honor aside, for his or her own safety from prosecution, investigate the lawfulness of the order to ship out toward such a purpose, for once the soldier is ordered to invade and is being shot at, it might be too late to do so. (Unfortunately the Veterans For Peace organization is not making much of an effort to prevent future members from committing obvious crimes by following criminal orders and at the same time risking murdering someone or being killed by someone defending his country against his or her invading it. Most or all of its members watch and read Fake Media.)

Telford Taylor, Chief Counsel, addressing the court during the Nuremberg.trials. Not even a distinguished figure like Taylor could escape CBS banning of his truth.

The Chief Counsel for the Prosecution at the Nuremberg Trials was General Telford Taylor. During the US invasion and bombing of Vietnam, General Taylor told CBS in an interview that “he would have been proud to have prosecuted flyers shot down while bombing Vietnam.” That interview was suppressed by CBS![9]

 …
CBS, NBC, ABC and later CNN, Fox and PBS went on and on making fake heroes of every politician who ‘served’ in what Martin Luther King described as genocide in a poor French colony seeking independence just as the USA once sought and achieved from a European empire.

One such fake hero, John McCain, went on to become a US Senator so renowned for his menacing speeches against America’s many media-designated enemies, he got to run for president as the Republican Party candidate in 2012. Candidate Senator John McCain called for “the United States to lead airstrikes against Syria’s armed forces to protect the rebels and civilians there, much as it did in Libya last year.”(The world has heard US politicians mouthing the same “humanitarian” intervention lie backed up with fake ‘news’ from Fake News Media over and over and over again since Korea in 1950.) In 2017, the same fake hero backed by fake media calls for overt military ‘intervention’ (ongoing genocidal covert ‘intervention’ having failed) in what is left of Syria, and military intervention in the Ukraine against Russia.
 …

McCain: A phony, and an obsessive death-monger by temperament, this creep should be forbidden from politics. McCain is Arizona’s curse on humanity.

“I know how to win wars!”  said John McCain during the 2012 campaign. Which war did McCain know how to win?  America LOST THE WAR. Surely Wolf Blitzer and Anderson Cooper REMEMBER that America LOST THE VIETNAM WAR to prevent a communist government and gave up, but Blitzer and Cooper are paid to forget that America lost. They are bombing and invasion facilitators.  By their clever phrasing of what they choose to highlight and what they choose to black out from telecast memory they make bombing and invasions of small countries attractive. These anchors of conglomerate-owned media have kept repeating and repeating that McCain has excellent military experience for leading America in winning its present ‘wars’[10] never mentioning that his experience was gained during a losing and now so called ‘mistaken’ ‘war.’[10][11]  Years before Airman McCain began his 23 bombing runs, President Eisenhower had admitted Ho Chi Minh was a hero to his countrymen and would have won an all-Vietnam election with 80%+ had he (Ike) not blocked it.[12] Well before McCain’s 1st bombing mission, Rev. Martin Luther King had angrily condemned U.S. genocide, and Muhammad Ali had ‘refused to go.’ Because Fake Media never reported the truth about the McCain killing and maiming innocent Vietnamese, McCain remains the most ‘newsworthy’ spokesperson for the Financial Industrial Military Complex and presently has been the most ferocious attacker of President Trump. And nonstop pusher of war with Russia and full on intervention in Syria.

 …
[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he wildest attackers of the integrity of the president as a person, have been fans of losing candidate former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. As we have seen, this predominately young crowd in the coastal metropolitan areas of the US, is oblivious of any solidarity they in effect have with the CIA-fed mainstream fake news media owned by the most powerful elite of Wall Street with portfolios heavily weighted with investments in Weapons of Mass Destruction and the world war that has been planned and prepared for years. That their candidate Hillary is seen by them as representing the Black and Hispanic and immigrant communities is due to Fake News Media manipulation. Actually, this significant part of the electorate has suffered more that any other segment of the US population in military dead, maimed and impoverishment due to Secretary Hillary’s championing of the estimated $ five trillion costly genocidal death and destruction throughout the Middle East and Africa, which Fake News Media with psyop distractions and focusing elsewhere, have kept from poor of the cities non attentive and disinterested in the monstrous taking of non-white lives overseas. Fake News Media lies, deceptions and blackout of any information and news that would expose the nature of the criminal US generated genocidal conflicts in Somalia, Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Syria, South Sudan and elsewhere overseen by Secretary of State Clinton, have been very successful. For over a year Fake News Media has had Americans focused on Donald Trump.

A seventh Nuremberg Principle of International Law was left unnoted above because it regards US Presidents and  other high government officials being prosecutable:

Principle III of the Nuremberg Principles reads, “The fact that a person who committed an act which constitutes a crime under international law acted as Head of State or responsible government official does not relieve him from responsibility under international law.” and “No national law can be above the Nuremberg Principles of International Law.” i.e. ” supremacy of international law over national. In January 2016, Ramsey Clark entered a ‘friend of the court’ brief reminding a California Federal Appeals Court of the above in an Iraqi Mom’s suit against Bush Administration members.[13]
 …

Obama will go down in history books as a traitor to his own race, along with the interests of people everywhere. His crimes by now are legion, but his teflon aura protects him from real criticism. The Hollywood propaganda machine has now even produced a ludicrous film celebrating his younger years and ascent to power. The apotheosis of misleading identity politics.

At Ramsey Clark’s urging the following essay was written and published:

In Less Than 30 Years Obama Will Be Tried for Millions of Unlawful Deaths in a Court of a New UN If former President Obama lives to a healthy elderly age in more harmonious world than today’s, in all probability he will face trial for a million unlawful deaths, injuries, deformities, and mega destruction.  For Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s co-leadership in America’s genocidal crimes against humanity and crimes against peace, if she should live into her mid-90s, this author would expect her indictment along with Obama’s. There is no time limit statute for genocide, not even for a murder. [see Hillary Laughed “We Came He Died'” While a Bombed Million Demonstrated for Their Beloved Hero Gadaffi As Sec. of State Clinton oversaw US wars for regime change that continue in Somalia, Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Syria and Yemen, and now threatens Russia and China, see Ask Hillary Who Buys ISIS et al Terrorists Helping US Oust Assad NewToyota Trucks/ Heavy Weapons
 …
Many of Hillary’s most vocal demonstrators embrace civil rights issues, and have been convinced by Fake News Media that Trump is a dangerous racist. Most seen to be indifferent to preparations for WWIII. Many are active in organizations like Occupy Wall Street and Black Lives Mater which have been giving backhanded support for regime change invasions and bombing in the Middle East and Africa by ignoring them as an issue though they take non white lives by the hundreds of thousands. [see Slogan ‘Black Lives Matter!’ Not Intended to Include ‘Black’ Lives Taken by GI’s Overseas ‘Black Lives Matter’ movement operates in blatant disbelief of Martin Luther King’s moral and entirely logical warning; ‘there will be no progress on social justice issues at home while we go on killing the poor overseas at a such an enormous expenditure of social and financial resources that makes such progress at home impossible.’ Another example of American exceptionalism is Occupy Wall Street. diverting attention from US wars. Arundhati Roy: ‘Civil Rights Movement in US Has Become a War Supporting Movement’ Article bemoans how selective it is to bemoan the lack of civil rights of solely Americans, including those Black GIs, who return from willingly denying the very right of non-whites overseas to remain alive in their own beloved countries.

All this confusion can be laid to Fake News Media deception and management of news and information with intention to make a world war possible before a huge, confident and highly civilized socialist China replaces the US as the most influential nation in the world (as it was for nearly 2,000 years)[14]. What but this expectation of America’s future loss of financial, political and cultural hegemony could have brought about the election of a president (backed by Wall Street elite investing in things other than weapons and a world war) committed to exposing the corporate monopoly mainstream media which has misled the nation into bombing, invading and occupying defenseless nations for more than a half century if not longer.

The CIA, an arm of the power elite investors in WMD, invasions and bombings and the source of fake news and fake patriotism has, for the first time, a problem with a US president. A ‘crazy,’ ‘mentally unstable’ and ‘extremely dangerous’ President Trump has been saying that “US regime change death and destruction in the Middle East was wrong and the five trillion dollars they cost should have been spent at home on America’s infrastructure,” that “NATO is obsolete;” that “the US should seek friendship with China and Russia;” that he likes Xi Jinping and Putin, (America’s perennial and sacrosanct mortal enemies!) and that he would get along fine with them. Trump has called two term fellow Republican President, George Bush, a liar for having lied about Iraq having weapons of mass destruction and has voiced suspicion about the 9/11 attack that happened so easily on Bush’s watch. Trump has disputed hailing former presidential candidate Senator John McCain, 2008 Republican presidential candidate, a hero for having been shot down while bombing Vietnam. Trump has asked, “why must the United States lead the world everywhere on the globe and play the role of the world’s policeman, now for example in Ukraine? “Trump asks, “Why does the United States always pursue regime changes — Iraq, Libya, Ukraine, and now it wants a regime change in Syria, Damascus, when the result is disaster.” Most importantly, Trump has condemned and ridiculed eighty percent of media’s reporters and commentators as pathetic liars, which comes close to the what is in reality that one hundred percent who are willing to preposterously describe America’s running crimes against humanity as heroic deeds in defense of American freedom.

Remember! Trump in his running battle with lying Fake News mainstream media has the words of Albert Einstein, the greatest mind of the 20th century, on his side.

The height of Trump’s ‘dangerous unpredictability’ saw Trump defending his respect of President Putin. When challenged by his interviewer—FOX poltroon and resident bully Bill O’Reilly, who believes himself an intellectual—with, “But Putin is a killer!” Trump answered, “There are a lot of killers. You think our country’s so innocent?” Trump later added, “I was against the invasion of Iraq – a lot of people were killed.” “He’s running his country and at least he’s a leader, unlike what we have in this country,” In December of 2015, Trump had told MSNBC’s ‘Morning Joe,’ “I think our country does plenty of killing also, Joe, so you know. There’s a lot of stupidity going on in the world right now, a lot of killing, a lot of stupidity.” (First time this writer has ever heard an American president lament people killed by American military?)
 …
If the investors in WMD and profitable genocide on Wall Street don’t shut this ‘wildly crazy’ president up, people might get the idea that all the regime change death and destruction starting with Korea were as US Congressman Ron Paul said over and over again during presidential candidate debates in 2012, “illegal, unconstitutional and a horrific loss of life.”
Four years earlier fake news mainstream media ridiculed Obama’s Pastor, Rev. Jeremiah Wright, and as a joke televised sound bites of Wright, his finger pointing up in the air and shouting in a angry voice,“God damn America for her crimes against humanity!”

There is a more sane and harmonious world coming as the USA loses it power to misinform and disinform through it present powerful CIA managed cartel of giant entertainment and news corporations telecasting via satellites. An initial change will come in the form of an influx of truthful news and saner entertainment breaking the West’s vice-like grip on sources of information/disinformation promoting egoistic self-indulgence and the West’s ability to promote, disseminate and inculcate lies enabling profitable investments in genocide.

“According to conservative estimates, by 2017, China will overtake the United States as the world’s largest economy, and by 2050, its economy will be twice as large as that of the United States. Chinese influence will extend well beyond the economic sphere. The full social, cultural and political repercussions of China’s ascendancy will be felt sooner. In the coming decades, the West will be confronted with the fact that its systems, institutions and values are no longer the only ones on offer.” [When China Rules the World -The End of the Western World and the Birth of a New Global Order by Martin Jacques] [13]

In a multipolar world, the absurdities, illogic and insanity that justifies US NATO UN genocide will no longer be successfully propagated. These outrageous fabrications just won’t wash when exposed to the light of day by new major sources of information powering out of Asia, Africa and Latin America that will appear as world economic power shifts Eastward and Southward.
The USA will not only lose control over international fiduciary organizations but eventually have no control over a reorganized United Nations and its courts. With future lawsuits for victim compensation and indemnity undoubtably reaching for mega enormous amounts of money, Ramsey Clark expects litigation will be more deeply aimed at the billionaire and millionaire investors who owned the media and government it was manipulating for profitable but illegal and genocidal use of US Armed Forces and CIA.  Prosecutable government officials like Obama and Clinton and a few media celebrities, no matter how abhorrent their crimes, will not be used as scapegoats to allow those who profited from the genocide to escape responsibility and punishment as in the case of the first use of the Nuremberg Principles of International Law at Nuremberg, Germany in 1945.
Former US Attorney General Ramses Clark, the foremost defector from a US establishment continually using its control over government, military, CIA and media for profitable genocidal adventures, has steadfastly kept his focus on assisting victims of US NATO UN bombings and invasions, sees some hope for eventual justice for victims that will bring an end to the profitability of investments in genocidal thievery. [see Ramsey Clark, “Without Demands for Compensation for Wrongful Deaths/Destruction, AntiImperialist Journalism is Hypocrisy World Economic power shift Eastward will bring a reconstituted UN that will certainly establish a Nuremberg Principles court to adjudicate lawsuits for compensation for millions of wrongful deaths, injuries, deformed babies, destruction of property and theft of natural resources filed once the US can no longer intimidate victim nations with crippling sanctions. Lets make this prosecution that will end profitability in death and destruction end sooner than otherwise.[15][16][17]
The seeds of public awareness of decades of monolithic mainstream media lies, news manipulation & deception sown by a maverick president, who is surely backed by a segment of Wall Street investors whose portfolios are NOT heavily weighted toward the manufacturing of WMDs and expect no gargantuan profits from a new world war, will eventually grow public understanding of US crimes against humanity that began in Korea and continued on through nations in Asia, Latin America, Europe, Africa and the Middle East.

Mockingbird was a secret operation by the United States Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) to influence media. Begun in the 1950s, the organization recruited leading American journalists into a network to help present the CIA’s views, and funded some student and cultural organizations, and magazines as fronts and also worked to influence foreign media and political campaigns. After 1953, Operation Mockingbird had major influence over 25 newspapers and wire agencies. The usual methodology was placing reports developed from intelligence provided by the CIA to witting or unwitting reporters. Those reports would then be repeated or cited by the preceding reporters which in turn would then be cited throughout the media wire services. These networks were run by people with well-known pro-American big business and anti-communist views. The CIA currently maintains a network of individuals around the world who attempt to influence opinion through the use of covert propaganda, and provide direct access to a large amount of newspapers and periodicals, scores of press services and news agencies, radio and television stations, commercial book publishers, and other foreign media outlets.”[The CIA and the Media – Carl Bernstein www.carlbernstein.com/magazine_cia_and_media.php ]

Logan Act History
In 1798, amid tensions between the U.S. and France, President Adams sent three envoys to France to negotiate. Negotiations were unsuccessful. Dr. George Logan of Pennsylvania, a state legislator and pacifist, in 1798 engaged in negotiations with France as a private citizen during the Quasi-War. [Michael V. Seitzinger (February 1, 2006). “Conducting Foreign Relations Without Authority: The Logan Act” (PDF). Congressional Research Service. Retrieved 2007-04-09.]
Kevin Kearney, writing in the Emory Law Journal, described Dr. Logan’s activities in France:
Upon his arrival in Paris, he met with various French officials, including Talleyrand. During these meetings, he identified himself as a private citizen, discussed matters of general interest to the French, and told his audience that anti-French sentiment was prevalent in the United States. Logan’s conversation with Merlin de Douai, who occupied the highest political office in the French republic, was typical. Logan stated that he did not intend to explain the American government’s position, nor to criticize that of France. Instead, he suggested ways in which France could improve relations with the United States, to the benefit of both countries. He also told Merlin that pro-British propagandists in the United States were portraying the French as corrupt and anxious for war, and were stating that any friend of French principles necessarily was an enemy of the United States. Within days of Logan’s last meeting, the French took steps to relieve the tensions between the two nations; they lifted the trade embargo then in place, and released American seamen held captive in French jails. Even so, it seems that Logan’s actions were not the primary cause of the Directory’s actions; instead, Logan had merely provided convenient timing for the implementation of a decision that had already been made.[Kearney, Kevin M. (1987). “Private Citizens in Foreign Affairs: A Constitutional Analysis”. Emory Law Journal. 36. (winter)]
Despite the apparent success of Logan’s mission, his activities aroused the opposition of the Federalist Party in Congress, who were resentful of the praise showered on Logan by oppositional Democratic-Republican newspapers. Secretary of State Timothy Pickering, also of Pennsylvania, responded by suggesting that Congress “act to curb the temerity and impudence of individuals affecting to interfere in public affairs between France and the United States.” The result was that Rep. Roger Griswold introduced the Logan Act.[Jacobs, Ben (2015-03-13). DEMA] It was pushed through by the Federalist majority in Congress by votes of 58–36 in the House, and 18–2 in the Senate. The above ‘History’ is from a excellently inner documented Wikipedia article: The Logan Act
Subsequently, Logan himself was appointed and then elected as a Democratic-Republican to the United States Senate from Pennsylvania, and served from July 13, 1801, to March 3, 1807. He was unsuccessful in getting the Logan Act repealed. Despite the Logan Act, he went to England in 1810 on a private diplomatic mission as an emissary of peace in the period before the outbreak of the War of 1812, but was not successful. 8. When one enlists in the United States Military, active duty or reserve, they take the following oath: I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice.
Military discipline and effectiveness are built on the foundation of obedience to orders. Recruits are taught to obey, immediately and without question, orders from their superiors, right from day one of boot camp. Military members who fail to obey the lawful orders of their superiors risk serious consequences. Article 90 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) makes it a crime for a military member to WILLFULLY disobey a superior commissioned officer. Article 91 makes it a crime to WILLFULLY disobey a superior Noncommissioned or Warrant Officer. Article 92 makes it a crime to disobey any lawful order (the disobedience does not have to be “willful” under this article). In fact, under Article 90, during times of war, a military member who willfully disobeys a superior commissioned officer can be sentenced to death.
These articles require the obedience of LAWFUL orders. An order which is unlawful not only does not need to be obeyed but obeying such an order can result in criminal prosecution of the one who obeys it. Military courts have long held that military members are accountable for their actions even while following orders — if the order was illegal. “I was only following orders,” has been unsuccessfully used as a legal defense in hundreds of cases (probably most notably by Nazi leaders at the Nuremberg tribunals following World War II). The defense didn’t work for them, nor has it worked in hundreds of cases since.  https://www.thebalance.com/military-orders-3332819 Updated 10/18/2016
9. U.S. Nuremberg Trials Prosecutor Would Have Proudly Prosecuted McCain As a War Criminal, History News Network, 10/10/2008 8.  There has been no war since WWII.  US administrations have been very carful to describe military action as something OTHER than a ‘war.’
10. Once some time elapses after a ‘police action’ or ‘humanitarian intervention’ has gone on for enough time for the public to get used to the ‘police action’ or ‘humanitarian intervention’ beginning to look like a war, Fake News Media begins to refer to a US invasion of another country as a ‘war.’ This gives criminal Fake News Media and the perpetrators of death and destruction an opportunity to defend the criminality with pompous non analogous old saws like, ‘Well, war is war, bad things happen in war, and war is regrettable but often glorious and a chance to prove bravery, loyalty and die (and kill) for one’s country, and both sides are guilty of ‘war’ crimes, so shut up you unpatriotic bleeding hearts, your country is at war, our solders are being attacked overseas.’
Journalists who refer to ‘crimes against humanity’ and genocidal crimes against peace as ‘wars’ or mistaken or bad foreign policy are aiding and abetting criminal Fake News Media covering up a prosecutable activity that will continue as long as remains profitable for not ever being prosecuted. When something IS genocide, better to call it that, then there is no need to define what kind of crime it is.  Also, when writing about genocide and calling it something else is a crime as accessory after the fact in aiding a felon(s) to avoid indictment and punishment.

Emerging vs developed economies Power shift Aug 4th 2011, by The Economist online (charts, graphs) REAL GDP in most rich economies is still below its level at the end of 2007. In contrast, emerging economies’ output has jumped by almost 20% over the same period. The rich world’s woes have clearly hastened the shift in global economic power towards the emerging markets. But exactly how big are emerging economies compared with the old developed world? This chart looks at a wide range of indicators: ” The combined output of the emerging world accounted for 38% of world GDP (at market exchange rates) in 2010, twice its share in 1990. If GDP is instead measured at purchasing-power parity, emerging economies overtook the developed world in 2008 and are likely to reach 54% of world GDP this year. They now account for over half of the global consumption of most commodities, world exports, and inflows of foreign direct investment. Emerging economies also account for 46% of world retail sales, 52% of all purchases of motor vehicles and 82% of mobile phone subscriptions. They still punch well below their weight in commerce and finance, but they are catching up fast. Almost a quarter of the Fortune Global 500 firms come from emerging markets; in 1995 it was only 4%. The chart below shows more detail of how the economic clout of emerging economies has risen over time: NOTE: Our definition of developed economies based on 1990 data: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, United States.

Democrats seek to channel opposition to Trump behind anti-Russia offensive

Two distinct processes have emerged in the month since the inauguration of Donald Trump. Millions of people in the United States and internationally have participated in protests against the fascistic policies of the new government. They are motivated by genuine and deeply felt anger over the administration’s attack on immigrants and its cabinet of billionaires and social reactionaries.

At the same time, much of the media and major sections of the political establishment have been carrying out an escalating campaign against Trump that is of a very different character. In close coordination with US intelligence agencies, Trump’s establishment critics are seeking to hijack the opposition of workers and youth to Trump and channel it behind their own imperialist and militarist agenda.

The Washington Post outlined the essential foreign policy concerns of the ruling class in an editorial published Wednesday, following the resignation of Trump’s national security advisor, Michael Flynn. The Post wrote that Trump could “begin to undo the damage” of his first month in office by selecting “a new national security advisor.” While “the past two weeks have seen some welcome corrections by Mr. Trump to what looked like potentially rash departures from previous US policies,” the newspaper continued, Trump still had “some fixes to make.” This meant, above all, improving relations with the European powers and changing his “dangerously appeasing stance toward Mr. Putin.”

The same basic line is repeated in innumerable newspaper editorials, on cable news programs and late night talk shows, and from both Republican and Democratic politicians.

So. Carolina’s curse to humanity: Scum politician Lindsey Graham.

Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, one of the most rabid Russophobes,  declared Wednesday that an unsubstantiated report in the New York Times about contacts between Trump’s election campaign and Russian intelligence officials was a “game changer” that justified an independent bipartisan investigation.

Senator Elizabeth Warren, who supposedly represents the left wing of the Democratic Party, issued a statement asserting that Trump “owes the American people a full account of his Administration’s dealings with Russia… Congress must pull its head out of the sand and launch a real, bipartisan, transparent inquiry into Russia. Our national security is at stake.”

Bernie Sanders, who is nominally an independent but has been elevated into the leadership of the Senate Democrats, called for the Senate Intelligence Committee to “thoroughly investigate if Russia coordinated with Trump and his campaign.”

Michael Moore, the documentarian who campaigned aggressively for Hillary Clinton and can be counted on to trail behind the Democratic Party, tweeted, “What part of ‘vacate you Russian traitor’ don’t you [Trump] understand?”

Michael Moore’s aggressive support for the Democrats and Hillary Clinton, in particular, is an objective lesson on the treachery of liberals, and the hefty dose of sheer imbecility that underscores much of their “understanding of reality.” Idiots like Moore are working to deliver the properly aroused masses back into the warmongering, CIA-Wall Street owned Democratic Party fold.

The Democrats are hoping to kill two birds with one stone. They want to contain social tensions and prevent them from giving rise to an independent political movement of the working class. And they want to force a “correction” in the foreign policy of the Trump government, bringing it into line with the economic, political and military campaign against Russia initiated by the CIA under Obama.

The response of Sanders is particularly significant given his central role over the past year in diverting anger over social inequality behind the campaign of Clinton, the candidate of Wall Street, who focused her opposition to Trump on the latter’s alleged ties to Russia.

In a meeting of Democratic senators on Tuesday, Sanders was reportedly asked by party leaders to placate popular anger that has erupted at constituency meetings held by Democratic congressmen. According to Senator Joe Manchin, Sanders was told by Minority Leader Charles Schumer and others that he might be the only person who can make sure that this anger is “directed in all the right proper channels”—that is, exclusively against the Republicans.

After the right-wing campaign of Clinton paved the way for the victory of Trump, the first response of the Democratic Party was to call for accommodation and cooperation. Democrats did everything they could to discourage opposition and ensure a “peaceful transition.”

Obama proclaimed the elections an “intramural scrimmage” in which all sides were “on one team.” Both he and Clinton said they wished Trump every “success,” while Sanders announced that he “and other progressives are prepared to work with” Trump on policies to “improve the lives of working families.” They covered up the ultra-right-wing character of the new administration and downplayed the significance of Trump’s defeat in the popular vote.

Trump’s inauguration, however, was followed immediately by protests involving millions of people—the most significant and widespread international demonstrations since the US invasion of Iraq in 2003. These demonstrations were followed barely a week later by protests at airports across the country against the anti-Muslim and anti-immigrant executive orders of the new administration. Protests of an essentially progressive and left-wing character have continued across the country.

As the World Socialist Web Site has warned, these protests lack an independent program and are politically dominated by organizations oriented to the Democratic Party. This creates the danger that they will be suppressed or channeled behind the warmongering policies of the CIA and the Pentagon, to shift the “narrative” in a pro-war direction.

This is precisely what the Democratic Party is attempting to do. The furor over Flynn’s phone calls with Russia and Trump’s ties to Putin has served to bury public discussion of the anti-Muslim ban, the attack on refugees, the fascistic character of the new administration and the cabal of CEOs, bankers and ex-generals in Trump’s cabinet.

What if the anti-Russia campaign is successful? The Democratic Party and the organizations that surround it are committing themselves to a policy that has catastrophic consequences. They would presumably consider the outbreak of war with nuclear-armed Russia a great triumph.

This would not be the first time that a popular movement, lacking a clearly-defined working class character and socialist program, was employed by the ruling class to achieve its own ends. In Egypt, the massive demonstrations that erupted in 2013 against the right-wing Muslim Brotherhood government were utilized by the military and its political agents to reestablish a military dictatorship two years after the downfall of the US-backed dictator Hosni Mubarak.

The political situation poses immense dangers. The brutal character of the Trump administration does not make its opponents in the intelligence agencies any less reactionary. They are conspiring to unleash not only bigger and more bloody wars abroad, but also war on the working class at home. The same think tanks that call for war preparations against Russia in order to maintain US domination of Eurasia insist that workers in the United States must be made to “sacrifice”—in the form of massive cuts in social programs and pensions—to pay for a huge increase in military spending.

The working class does not want war. There is virtually no popular support for a conflict with Russia or China, or an expansion of military aggression in the Middle East. There remains deep opposition to social inequality and the attack on democratic rights.

The radicalization of the working class must be given a conscious and organized political form. It must be guided by a socialist program. The critical question posed by the mounting political crisis and the growth of social protest is that of revolutionary leadership.
