The media's role in lying about Amsterdam violence just keeps getting darker

Maccabi thugs in Amsterdam: Better call t a provocation

Maccabi thugs in Amsterdam: Better call it a provocation

The media's role in peddling disinformation over last week's violence in Amsterdam just keeps getting darker.

Owen Jones has interviewed a Dutch woman who shot the footage used by major outlets – from Sky News and the BBC to the Guardian and New York Times – to suggest that locals in Amsterdam carried out "antisemitic attacks" on Maccabi Tel Aviv fans. In fact, as she has noted on social media, her footage shows the exact reverse: Israeli fans attacking local Dutch residents.

Despite her efforts to get these outlets to correct their mistake, and issue apologies, none has done so, apart from a German news programme, Taggeschau.

Jones’ interview offers insights as to why.

We know that an early report from the scene by Sky News’ reporter was one of the only to correctly describe the video as showing Israeli hooliganism, not antisemitism.

But Sky quickly took down that report, saying it wasn't "balanced". The channel then heavily re-edited the segment and issued a new version that presented the footage – quite wrongly – as evidence of Dutch locals attacking Israeli fans.

That was crucial to shoring up the false “antisemitism” and “pogrom” narratives spread by Western politicians and the establishment media.

Here's where it gets even more disturbing. The Dutch photographer interviewed by Jones says she was interviewed by Sky News about her footage before the second, re-edited report was aired.

In other words, not only was Sky's reporter correct in her first account of the events in Amsterdam, but Sky's news editors back in London knew exactly what the footage showed too – because the Dutch woman who filmed it had told them.

And yet Sky's news team still edited a truthful news report to make it untruthful.

The only conclusion one can draw is that they did so to mislead their audience. They didn't make a mistake. They didn’t act out of ignorance. They knowingly aired disinformation. They intentionally peddled fake news.

That’s something very hard for most of us to accept. It requires a troubling recalibration, a shift of perspective if we are to understand the world we live in. Doing that is the only way to make sense of some of the most significant events that have unfolded over the past two decades.

We know that an early report from the scene by Sky News’ reporter was one of the only to correctly describe the video as showing Israeli hooliganism, not antisemitism.  But Sky quickly took down that report, saying it wasn't "balanced".

Remember the lies we were sold by the Western establishment media about "weapons of mass destruction" in Iraq to justify a US-UK invasion and get Western troops into a key oil-rich Middle Eastern state in gross violation of international law?

Remember the years of evidence-free claims from the entire British establishment media about the most prominent anti-racist politician of his generation, Jeremy Corbyn, who suddenly was outed as an unhinged antisemite the moment he became leader of the Labour party? Corbyn also just happened to be the first democratic socialist to head the party in 40 years.

  • How the hell is the already massively ignorant US public to get an idea about whats happening in Gaza when the filthy media keeps telling them outrageous lies?  Or making the life of just one Israeli worth 10000 Palestinians?

Remember the entire Western media insisting that Israel’s slaughter and maiming of many tens of thousands of children in Gaza, the systematic bombing of the enclave’s hospitals, and the mass starvation of the 2.3 million people there was not textbook genocide? Rather, it was “self-defence”. It was a legitimate war against Hamas.

None of those things should have sounded like they made any sense at the time.

And if they did, we should have noticed that the media’s presentation of the “facts” just happened to coincide precisely with Washington’s interests to prop up its most important client state in the oil-rich Middle East and isolate its one potential military rival, Russia, as part of a strategic policy of “global full-spectrum dominance” – or, expressed another way, its project to be the world’s sole imperial power, to run the planet like some untouchable godfather.

The problem wasn't, as you feared, you. You weren’t losing the plot. Your suspicions were justified. You were being lied to. The media was gaslighting you.

The challenge is to find a way to liberate other minds still desperately clinging to a comforting illusion: that the establishment media can be trusted, that it is free, honest and moral.

“They told the opposite of what happened in that footage.” Photographer Annet de Graaf captured the Israeli Maccabi soccer fan violence in Amsterdam. In her first interview with US media, she tells Mehdi that outlets like Sky News, the New York Times, BBC, and CNN misused her footage and twisted the narrative to frame the Maccabi fans as victims of antisemitic attacks and overlook the anti-Arab racism that fueled the clash.

Woodward 'WAR,' Biden stared down Putin nuke threat The Duran: Episode 2036
In a careful examination of Bob Woodward's latest "historical" tome, WAR, the Duran team finds that a great deal of it is simply the usual self-approving chauvinist gossip repacked to resonate as serious history.  This is scarcely surprising, since Woodward has long been acting as a national security operative.

The Return of Donald Trump: The DEATH of Legacy Media.

If half the country has decided that Trump is qualified to be president, that means they’re not reading any of this media, and we’ve lost this audience completely,” the executive said. “A Trump victory means mainstream media is dead in its current form. And the question is, what does it look like after.” - https://conservativeinstitute.org/conservative-news/media-executives-trump-victory-death-mainstream-influence.htm

Giant Electoral Asteroid Strikes America's Intellectual Class, Which Fails to Notice.” - Matt Taibbi.

These are probably the two most critically discerning verdicts on Donald Trump's reelection, the man that Woke legacy media and scholars have all written off.

As Americans conclude and celebrate the charade that pantomimes a democratic election, let us attempt to shed some light on why we think the election went the way it did.

First, listen to HL Mencken: “The larger the mob, the harder the test. In small areas, before small electorates, a first-rate man occasionally fights his way through, carrying even the mob with him by force of his personality. But when the field is nationwide, and the fight must be waged chiefly at second and third hand, and the force of personality cannot so readily make itself felt, then all the odds are on the man who is, intrinsically, the most devious and mediocre — the man who can most easily adeptly disperse the notion that his mind is a virtual vacuum.

The Presidency tends, year by year, to go to such men. As democracy is perfected, the office represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. We move toward a lofty ideal. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.” H.L. Mencken.

As we often say in this column, we do not have a dog in any fight in foreign (read non-African) lands. We are committed only to the cause of Pan-Africanism. When discussing non-African issues, we do so solely to enlighten and shed light on how such events or issues impact our lives and affairs in Africa.

With that declaration under our belt, let us examine why a man like Donald Trump overcame all obstacles (including assassination attempts) to stage a comeback to the White House.

Anyone who has read George Orwell’s prophetic classic 1984 and follows contemporary affairs will be baffled by the author’s prescience. The book’s theme rhymes nicely with contemporary happenings.

Donald Trump's first term was as chaotic as it was devoid of coherence. It was characterized by relentless scandals, chaotic policy shifts, frequent clashes with traditional media and political elites, an abrasive approach to critical voting blocs (women especially), inflammatory rhetoric on issues of race, policing, and public health, and unprecedented impeachment trials.

In 2020, American voters decided they had enough of their erratic leader. They opted for the elderly, almost senile Joe Biden, a virtuoso Establishment Figure.

Trump did not take his loss kindly. With his encouragement, his supporters stormed the Congress, paving the way for more scandals and legal battles. Out of office, he continues to face court battles over business practices, alleged misuse of classified information, and multiple indictments connected to his supporters' alleged insurrection.

Some of these are still ongoing. We look forward to seeing how American political scientists will rationalize having a convicted felon occupy their White House—even as they gallivant around Africa to teach, lecture, exhort, and cajole.

Despite his loss and all the scandals and lawsuits, Trump maintained his grip on the Republican Party. He used it to craft his comeback masterfully.

A populist by nature, rather than relying on legacy media like CNN, NBC, Fox, etc., Trump chose the alternative media as his sanctuary and used them to appeal to his reverential supporters as a persecuted Messiah, stoically carrying the Cross of the Downtrodden, the Discontented, the Oppressed, the Unemployed, the Marginalized, and other adherents who will buy into his BS.

Platforms like X (formerly Twitter) and podcasters like Tuckson and Joe Rogan joined forces to craft a narrative of institutional distrust, freedom of speech, and anti-establishment rhetoric that mirrored Trump’s own abrasive, brash, and facts-be-damned messaging.

It was a marriage made in Paradise. These platforms provided Trump with a direct line to his adoring supporters.

Legacy media did not help matters as they increasingly became totalitarian and mercilessly and relentlessly pushed their very narrow-view ideological views and attempted to shove them down the throat of humanity.

In a manner that would have pleased Orwellian Thought Police (Thinkpol in Newspeak), they banned and deplatformed everyone who disagreed with them.

No one told us why some faceless coders at Google and Facebook suddenly invested themselves with the power to tell us how to think, but they did and abused it.

I abandoned Facebook the very first time it sent me a warning. A reptilian-looking character like Zuckerberg does not have the qualifications to instruct me on how to think.

The tragedy, unacknowledged by the Fascist wannabees like Google and Facebook and the lying pundits on the BBC, CNN, and the rest of the legacy media, is that the train has left the station.

We would never know why the delusional talking heads and the insufferable stenographers who masquerade as journalists at the BBC and CNN and the entire Western media ecosystem never realize that most rational human beings have abandoned their lying platforms and are getting their news and information from reasonable and intelligent people who proved themselves reliable.

In my case, I search for Alastair Crooke and Dr. Gilbert Doctorow on geopolitical matters. I collaborate their analyses with official statements from direct sources - websites of the governments of Iran, China, and Russia. On Military matters, I defer to the inimitable Andrei Martyanov every time. On economic issues, I look up to the redeemed Professor Jeffrey Sachs.

Unlike his opponent, who enjoyed uncritical, even fawning adoration from the legacy media, Trump was helped by high-profile endorsements from figures like Elon Musk and Tucker Carlson.

This is clever because, unlike mainstream outlets such as CNN, ABC, and NBC, which struggled to maintain viewership, those platforms experienced exponential growth.

For example, Joe Rogan’s podcast regularly pulled in millions of listeners per episode, easily dwarfing the viewership of legacy news networks. Carlson’s news show on X boasted audience figures that often reached beyond 10 million views per episode. No legacy media even come close.

It remains a wonder how the Establishment could be so blind as not to notice in 2024 that Alternative Media, reaching millions, has become many people's only trusted source of information.

Unlike Kamala Harris, who is encumbered by the burden of the establishment and did not dare stray too far from his boss's disastrous policies (endless wars), Trump appeals directly to his supporters with his flamboyant and often outlandish bombasts. His raw, emotive grandstanding reached an almost mythical level among his supporters, many of whom view him with near-religious reverence.

We will never know how a billionaire pulled it off, but Trump’s fans see him as one lone ranger fighting for them and their cause. They view him as a protector of “traditional” America, a symbolic force fighting against a liberal agenda by Woke Ideologists who know no boundary as they relentlessly push their distorted version of biological and cultural realities.

Trump’s rallies, live-streamed and shared by millions online, feel more like revival meetings than political events. Supporters chant, “Trump! Trump! Trump!” and hold signs that read, “God Sent Trump.”

Trump speaks brashly, even profanely, which certainly resonates with voters who feel overlooked by Washington elites who speak down to them and cannot articulate anything beyond one-liners.

It helped Trump that his cackling opponent had an IQ not high enough to light a Christmas tree bulb. What the managers of the Legacy media asked of us is to suspend our memory, shut down all our thinking facilities, and pretend that we never see how abysmally Kamala Harris performed during her initial presidential run in the 2020 Democratic primary when she was underwhelming, and was marked by inconsistent messaging and lackluster polling numbers. She quickly faltered as she failed to maintain a cohesive platform that resonated with a broad base of voters. Her support peaked at around 15% in mid-2019 and quickly dropped to around 3-4%. She folded her tent before the primaries.

Trump’s cause was certainly not hurt when, on the eve of the election, Joe Rogan, the nation’s most-listened-to podcaster, announced that he was endorsing the former President, “Rogan, in a post on X promoting his interview with Trump supporter Elon Musk, made a compelling case for the Republican presidential nominee and said, “I agree with him every step of the way.”

“For the record, yes, that’s an endorsement of Trump,” he added.” - https://time.com/7172132/joe-rogan-trump-endorsement/

One of today’s wonders is how anyone with a brain could fail to notice how far from reality the leaders and the media in the West have become.

Visiting Europe and watching the news there these days is quite an experience. Europeans chose to create and live in their parallel universe, millions of miles from reality. It does not help matter that unelected EU bureaucrats have hijacked almost every aspect of life. These EUcrats banned Europeans from watching alternative news media.

It baffles greatly that Europeans sheepishly went along.

America mercifully did not descend into the levels of Europe before they decided to act.

As we said at the onset, we have no horse in American presidential races.

However, the country's importance will continue to affect our lives deeply.

Let us conclude this piece with two observations: one American, “End of Empire? Trump’s Return and the Mirage of Peace,”: “Trump’s don't call it a comeback, coupled with GOP control over the Senate and House, is being hailed as a “people’s revolution.” The headlines scream it’s a rejection of woke ideology, an overturning of the malignant neoliberal order. But here’s the real question lurking beneath the confetti: could this seismic shift mean an end to America’s forever wars, or will it be just another chapter in the empire’s well-rehearsed script?

Visiting Europe and watching the news there these days is quite an experience. Europeans chose to create and live in their parallel universe, millions of miles from reality. It does not help matter that unelected EU bureaucrats have hijacked almost every aspect of life...

Let’s remember, during his first term, Trump flirted with the idea of scaling down America’s military footprint, inciting the Deep State’s ire at every turn. He talked about “America First” while the war machine, entrenched in its addiction to foreign intervention, clawed at his ambitions. Now, he’s back. The Republican sweep is a mandate, but is it a mandate for peace? Or merely a permission slip for the military-industrial complex to pivot toward new, more profitable theaters of conflict?

Consider the stakes. America’s multi-trillion-dollar adventures across the Middle East, Africa, and parts of Asia haven’t spread democracy or freedom, they’ve cultivated proxy wars, shattered economies, and filled the coffers of defense giants. Under Biden-Harris, the empire doubled down on NATO expansion, funneled billions into Ukraine, and heightened tensions with Beijing and Moscow what feels like milliseconds to doomdsday midnight. The military behemoth stayed fed, while America’s own infrastructure crumbled. And yet, here we are, being asked to believe that the empire will voluntarily shrink?

The real test lies not in Trump’s rhetoric but in his willingness to dismantle Washington’s holy grails: the CIA, the Pentagon, and a State Department dripping with interventionist zeal. If he’s serious, he’ll have to untangle America from the web of alliances and proxy wars that have propped up its global reach for decades. But the GOP’s hawkish underbelly looms, and history tells us that even the loudest calls for “peace” can be diluted into controlled populism.

Meanwhile, the world is no longer waiting for the U.S. to grow tired of its own empire. From BRICS nations championing multipolarity to regional blocs asserting autonomy, the Global Majority is already building a new architecture, one where Washington’s veto power is waning. They’ve seen the puppet show before, presidents promising “peace” while signing defense contracts behind closed doors. If this era is truly different, America would need to turn inward, choosing roads and bridges over drone strikes, diplomacy over dominance.

And so, as Trump prepares to reclaim the Oval Office, the stakes are existential - not just for his legacy but for America’s very identity. Is this the twilight of empire? Or is it yet another flickering illusion in the theater of endless war?” - Gerry Nolan @TheIslanderNews

The second is by the astute Russian economist Sergei Glazyev:

“The ostriches are running away, Pax Americana is ending. The Leo Strauss sect, which ruled the USA and planned to establish a world dictatorship of the chosen few, is losing the election. The US deep state has no choice either - a repeat of the falsification will lead to a civil war and the collapse of the country. Pragmatists who recognize the fact of the transition to a new world economic order are coming to power in the USA. Brzezinski’s strategy of defeating Russia, destroying Iran and isolating China, as expected, only strengthened China, which has become a global leader. Together with India, it will form a new bipolar center of the new world economic system. The USA can integrate into it as another center of the world economy if it abandons imperialism and stops the global hybrid war. It is in the US national interest that Trump liberate the US from the ostrich [Straussian] sect that has saddled it. Bringing Washington’s policies in line with the US national interest will entail poisoning Europe and the fall of the anti-human traitorous regimes in Germany and France. As we predicted, the world hybrid war, started by the US power-financial elite for world domination in 2001 with the attack of the US intelligence services on the Twin Towers in New York, will end next year with the universal recognition of its defeat and the completion of the transition to a new world economic order. The world will become polycentric and polycurrency, the significance of national sovereignty and international law will be restored.

Propaganda and Censorship: How America Dominates Information War

Recently, US media have published several articles about India, accusing the Modi government of social media censorship, influence operations, stifling critics, and running troll farms. Western organizations have also downgraded India’s freedom of press this year – with a ranking of 161 out of 180, according to the World Press Freedom Index. Interestingly, such criticisms themselves are tools of the American Empire, whose propaganda machine is so sophisticated that most people don’t even see it. Understanding how the US wages information war and maintains its soft power is very critical. Let’s dive into it.

History of American Propaganda

For more than a century, the US has understood and fine-tuned mass psychology better than anyone else. It started with Edward Bernays, a nephew of Sigmund Freud. While Freud focused on individuals, Bernays pioneered the field of modern public relations – i.e., manufacturing consent, and manipulating the entire society. His seminal book, Propaganda starts off thus:

"The conscious and intelligent manipulation of the organized habits and opinions of the masses is an important element in democratic society. Those who manipulate this unseen mechanism of society constitute an invisible government which is the true ruling power of our country. We are governed, our minds are molded, our tastes formed, our ideas suggested, largely by men we have never heard of," the book read.

Bernays applied his principles equally to the corporate world, politics, and wars. For example, a cigarette company, Lucky Strikes, approached him in 1929 for help in expanding their business. Bernays organized a protest by wealthy women who marched while smoking in New York City. He reframed smoking as women’s liberation, and had the media describe it as “torches of freedom.” Within days, women all across the US were gathering to smoke in public.

Bernays used his techniques to help US Presidents win election and wage wars. An illustrative example is how Bernays helped the CIA stage a coup in Guatemala in the 1950s. Much of the land in Guatemala was owned by American firms like United Fruit Company, which ruthlessly exploited the workers. Thus, when a popular and democratically elected Guatemalan leader, Jacobo Árbenz, wanted to enact land reforms and improve the conditions of his people, he was targeted by the US.

Bernays helped the CIA launch a propaganda campaign, which accused Arbenz of being a communist who colluded with the Soviet Union and threatened America’s security. This helped drum up public support in the US for a regime change operation. The CIA even launched a radio station in Guatemala to spread fake news and foment an uprising. Soon, the US invaded Guatemala and installed a brutal dictator, who banned labor unions, committed mass murder, and sold off his country to American corporations.

Brutality of American Empire

The Guatemalan playbook has been utilized many times in Latin America, where almost every country has been a victim of invasions or coups orchestrated by the USA. Shockingly, the USA even established the “School of Americas” to train Latin American soldiers and military generals on political oppression, police state, death squads, torture, psychological warfare, and other means to maintain totalitarian systems.

After WW2, the CIA even established ratlines for thousands of high-ranking Nazis to flee to South/Central America, where the Nazis played a key role in maintaining the Monroe Doctrine – i.e., US domination of the Western Hemisphere. An infamous Nazi in this role is Klaus Barbie – also known as the Butcher of Lyon – who established right-wing paramilitary groups such as the “Fiancés of Death” in Bolivia, staged coups to install US-friendly fascist leaders, killed “communists” who would impede profits of American corporations, and even helped the CIA with massive cocaine trafficking.

There are countless such stories in Africa and Asia as well. The US has armed, funded and supported a vast majority of dictators and fascists around the world. In an Orwellian manner, the only time a leader is guaranteed to be accused of a dictator is if he refuses to obey the diktats of the USA. Otherwise, the mainstream media ignores the sins of such leaders, who can even come to the White House for a photo op. More egregiously, the US gladly funds and arms violent militants, neo-Nazi mercenaries (like in Ukraine), Islamist jihadists, drug cartels etc. to overthrow governments around the world. Finally, the US also organizes color revolutions and soft coups to remove independent leaders and install puppet leaders.

So, the obvious question is how does the US get away with all this? More importantly, how does the US maintain its global brand as a country that fights for freedom and democracy? It is imperative that every person understand this highly sophisticated combination of capital, technology and psychology that underpins American propaganda.

Three Pillars of American Propaganda

While propaganda within a selected group or even a country is somewhat easy, global propaganda at scale requires a much bigger arsenal of diverse weapons. The three pillars of American propaganda are:

Dominance of tools. These include traditional mediums such as newspapers, magazines, books, academics, TV, movies, music and so on. Then there are modern tools such as social media, Wikipedia, and Google Search. This virtual monopoly allows the US to flood the world with American perspectives and drown out competition. The West gets to write the history and define truth.

Consistent Messaging. While the US media pretends to be independent, it’s an important branch of the US establishment. While the media criticize the politicians on different domestic issues, they are always in-sync with the imperialist side of the USA. During the illegal war on Iraq, the media shamelessly repeated all the lies from the US military and deep state. Perhaps 1 in 1000 mainstream media articles gently question the war propaganda of the military industrial complex. In the 1970s, the US Senate exposed Operation Mockingbird, which was the CIA’s scheme to have agents or collaborators in all the influential American media. That arrangement is still alive.

Targeted Censorship: Most people don’t see censorship in the US because the average person can go on Twitter or Facebook and post some rude things about the US or its leaders. However, what these people don’t realize is that if they are influential, they would be censored in numerous ways.

Globalists’ tyranny and censorship: EU threatens Elon Musk with fines of up to 6% of the annual revenue of not only X but ALL of Elon’s companies — like Tesla and SpaceX ! Why? For failing to tackle "illegal content and disinformation” — i.e., inconvenient truths.

Let’s analyze each one of them in more details.

Domination of mainstream narrative around the world by the US and its allies is astounding. Reuters and AP provide the foreign news to most countries, who lack the capacity to have worldwide journalists. The US also has hundreds of influential magazines and newspapers, which mold the perceptions of people on economics, geopolitics, social values, and virtually all topics. Wherever you travel, you can find CNN on TV screens at hotels and airport. In India, the #1 English TV channel is CNN.

Of course, Hollywood plays as big a role as the news media when it comes to manipulating the masses. The Pentagon and the CIA work closely with Hollywood to insert inconspicuous propaganda into movies and TV shows to portray the US as the freedom-loving hero and geopolitical rivals as bad – compare Superman, Spiderman and James Bond to the countless villains with Russian accent.

The US government and corporations – especially the military contractors – also fund numerous think tanks in the US and around the world to shape the opinions of influencers, academics, bureaucrats, and the educated class. Moreover, ruling classes from around the world send their children to study in the US/UK, thus indoctrinating the future generation with a narrow and distorted view of the world.
The US also spends a lot of money on fake NGOs that train journalists and activists, who will unsurprisingly turn out to be pro-US.
The West also controls, in indirect ways, textbooks and curriculum around the world. Whether it’s Germany or India, you will not find a high-school or college course on “American Imperialism.” A shocking example of this brainwashing is Hong Kong’s young generation, which grew up worshipping the British and never learning about the true nature of British colonialism and apartheid in Hong Kong. Sadly, these kids were also taught to hate mainland Chinese people.

Finally, all this American “wisdom” is magnified through American technology and propaganda tools such as Google Search and Wikipedia.

To summarize, the US floods the world with their propaganda through every channel possible. A person needs to be really dedicated to sift through the flood of disinformation to seek the truth. Vast majority of people don’t have the time, money or patience to go beyond the headlines, mainstream talking points, or the second page of Google Search results.

Next is consistency. Incredibly, all the channels we discussed above stick to the US establishment propaganda. This happens in a supposedly land of free speech and free press. As Noam Chomsky said, “Any dictator would admire the uniformity and obedience of the U.S. media.”

There are three more characteristics to American propaganda, which makes it very effective:
  • They are simple.
  • They are emotional.
  • They are repeated endlessly.

American propaganda is the same whether they are selling Nike or politicians or neoliberal economics or wars. They are summarized in catchy slogans: “Just do it” … “free market and small government” … “Make America Great Again” … “spreading freedom and democracy.”
They are also emotional. Whether the lie is about Syrian President Assad using chemical weapons or China brutally killing people in the Tiananmen Square, the narrative is so emotional that people cannot think objectively.

Propaganda is just marketing. Every good commercial has an emotional aspect to it. Thus, while marketers use sexy women to sell Coca Cola, warmongers evoke fear and/or anger to sell war. Thus, portraying Putin as taking over Europe or Xi Jinping taking over Asia are effective in creating fight-or-flight reactions. Americans have also been trained to have Pavlovian response to words such as “dictator” and “Hitler,” which are used against every leader that the US targets. Such simplistic messages are effective, because one can see people on social media mindlessly repeating them like robots.

Look at the favorable view of China in the US. It fell from 53% in 2018 to just 15% in 2023. Think about it. What has China done differently in the last five years? Nothing. All the trade wars and tech wars were started by the US, not by China.

Also, China didn’t build military bases around the US or call the US an adversary. However, suddenly everyone in the US establishment started calling China the “greatest enemy” and “biggest threat.” And people believed it.

That’s the power of American propaganda. It's really stupid, emotional and childish, but works impressively to manufacture consent for wars.

Finally, the American censorship is very clever and takes on numerous forms – for example: demonetization of YouTube accounts, throttling of Twitter accounts (reducing the views), outright ban for thoughtcrimes  (which has increased exponentially after the Trump phenomenon in 2016), firing people from jobs (the CEO of a tech company was recently fired for retweeting a satire article about Israel bombing Gaza) and so on.

As a personal anectdote, I got permanently banned from Medium for simply writing a factual article that questioned the outrageous U.S. allegations of Uyghur genocide by China. When the UN Human Rights group – led by Michelle Bachelet, former President of Chile – went to Xinjiang and later published a report that said nothing about genocide, US politicians went berserk and attacked her viciously. Soon, she amended the report to add one line that crimes against humanity “may” have occurred. Then, she resigned.

Similarly, when the ICC wanted to look into American war crimes, the US threatened to arrest the ICC judges. Later, the US bullied the ICC to get rid of the chief judge, installed a puppet, and then indicted Russian President Putin on fake charges. The hypocrisy and duplicity are astonishing. By the way, the US did the same with the UN inspectors when they said that Iraq had no nuclear weapons two decades ago.

Julian Assange, of course, is the ultimate example of US censorship. All Wikileaks did was to publish 100% authentic documents, which exposed how the world works. However, the US empire went berserk, framed him with false rape allegations, trapped him in the Ecuadorian embassy for seven years, had the UK psychologically torture him in prison, and even tried to kill him. And he is not even an American.

Conclusion

“Perception is reality” is a famous American saying. When applied excessively, this principle would lead to an insane society detached from reality. And, in a way, that is exactly what is happening in the US.

Americans do not realize that they live in an oligarchic and kleptocratic system where politicians are bought and paid for by large corporations. Thus, Americans keep falling for fake elections and staged drama, even though the life of an average American has gotten worse consistently over the last five decades. Similarly, Americans keep supporting perpetual wars and a vast empire of 800 international military bases, because they naively believe the recycled war propaganda.
There is definitely more awakening in the rest of the world, especially in the Global South. People are starting to see through American propaganda and disinformation, as evidenced in the world’s recent support for Russia and Palestinians. However, more people need to wake up, especially Europeans. The next decade will be dangerous for the world, since the rulers of the US will try every imperialist trick to destroy their geopolitical competitors and prolong the American unipolar hegemony. Be prepared for intense propaganda wars.

Russophobic presstitute MSNBC Rachel Maddow has done her best to stoke the fires of enmity between two nuclear-armed superpowers. She is now a multimilionaire. It pays to sing the establishment's tune.

  • In cynicism and power, the US propaganda machine easily surpasses Orwells Ministry of Truth.
  • Now the fight against anti-semitism is being weaponised as a new sanctimonious McCarthyism.
  • Unless opposed, neither justice nor our Constitutional right to Free Speech will survive this assault.
