Israel Genocide Tracker is an X account created in May that scans social media and gathers data on Israeli soldiers from previous posts they had published boasting about their actions in Gaza. It then creates a profile for each soldier, including personal information such as their name, age, family origin, and army unit. According to TRT, which cited Israel’s Channel 12 News, multiple soldiers have expressed concerns over the account. “I’m afraid they could Google my name and find it there,” one soldier told Channel 12.

West Asia reacts to Trump’s dalliance with Zionism

MBS with China's Pres. Xi. (The Cradle)

[mks_dropcap style="circle" size="62" bg_color="#ff0c0c" txt_color="#000000"]T[/mks_dropcap]he election victory of Donald Trump in the November 5 election is being perceived in the West Asian region with growing anxiety as presaging the US aligning one hundred percent with the Zionist project for Greater Israel.

Although Trump has kept out vociferous neocons from his government positions, the same cannot be said for pro-Zionist figures. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claims he has spoken three times with Trump alreadysince the election and they “see eye-to-eye regarding the Iranian threat and all of its components.”

The “components” implies that Netanyahu hopes to get a blank cheque from Trump to accelerate the ethnic cleansing in Gaza, for annexation of West Bank, violent reprisals against Palestinians and, most important, to carry the war right into Iranian territory.

Three events in as many days this week show the first signs of a backlash building up. On Monday, Iran’s foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei gave Tehran’s first official reaction to Trump’s election victory. Baqaei took a nuanced line saying, “What matters to us in this region is the United States’ actual behaviour and policies regarding Iran and the broader West Asia.”

Notably, Baqaei expressed “cautious optimism that the new [Trump] administration might adopt a more peace-oriented approach, reduce regional hostilities, and uphold its commitments.” (Tehran Times) Baqaei also refuted the recent allegation by Washington that Iran was involved in plots to assassinate Trump. He called the Biden Administration’s allegation as “nothing more than an attempt to sabotage relations” between Tehran and Washington by “laying traps to complicate the path for the next administration.”

Baqaei also held out an assurance to the incoming US administration that Tehran firmly adheres to a nuclear programme for peaceful purposes. He announced that Rafael Grossi, head of International Atomic Energy (IAEA) was due to arrive in Tehran  on Wednesday night.

Taken together, Baqaei’s remarks suggest that Iran hopes there’s still daylight possible between Trump and Netanyahu. The clincher here would have been the remark that Trump slipped into his victory speech with great deliberation on November 6 that “I’m not going to start a war. I’m going to stop wars.”

Trump was on record during his election campaign that “I don’t want to do damage to Iran but they cannot have nuclear weapons.” Tehran’s consultations with Grossi responds to Trump’s concern. This is smart thinking. Iran’s non-provocative stance would mean there is no alibi for attacking Iran.

That said, however, the “known unknown” still remains — namely, Iran’s retaliation to the Israeli attack on October 26. On November 2, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in a video released by Iranian state media, promised “a crushing response” to Israeli attack. Conceivably, the period till January 20 when Trump is sworn in, is going to be critical.

Meanwhile, this week witnessed that Iran and Saudi Arabia have given verve to their detente, which is now manifesting as Riyadh’s solidarity and open support for Iran in its growing confrontation with Israel.

Amidst the growing tensions in the region, the chief of staff of Saudi Arabia’s armed forces, Fayyad al-Ruwaili, visited Tehran on November 10 and met with his Iranian counterpart General Mohammad Bagheri. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian spoke on the phone with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman on the phone in the context of a summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) – Arab League in Riyadh on November 11-12. Iran has extended an invitation to MbS to visit Tehran!

Two hugely significant highlights of the Riyadh summit have been, first, the Saudi prince’s inaugural address where he warned Israel against hitting Iran. This marked a historic turn by Riyadh toward Tehran-Israeli conflict, and away from US-supported normalisation with Jerusalem.

MbS told the summit that the international community should oblige Israel “to respect the sovereignty of the sisterly Islamic Republic of Iran and not to violate its lands.”

Again, Saudi Arabia accused Israel for the first time of committing “genocide” in Gaza. MbS told the leaders who gathered in Riyadh, that the kingdom renewed “its condemnation and categorical rejection of the genocide committed by Israel against the brotherly Palestinian people…”

Trump has been put on notice that he’s meeting a radically different geopolitical landscape in West Asia compared to his first term as president. The Trump transition team is keeping its cards close, offering NatSec Daily a boilerplate statement that Trump will take “necessary action” to “lead our country” and “restore peace through strength.” But warning bells are ringing.

The key pillars of Trump’s “maximum pressure” strategy against Tehran — isolating Iran and ramping up economic pressure while  maintaining a credible threat of military force as deterrent — have become wobbly.

On the other hand, the massive Iranian ballistic missile attack on Israel on October 1 and the colossal failure of the Israeli air strike on Iran twenty-six days later convey a loud message all across West Asia that Israel is no longer the dominant military power it used to be — and there is a new sheriff in town. Trump will have to navigate the fallout of both sides of this issue with diminished US diplomatic and geopolitical capital at his disposal.

Meanwhile, Tehran is also deepening its cooperation with Russia, which adds a giant new Ukraine-sized complexity to Trump’s Iran policy. While in Eurasia, the US has allies, Trump is navigating in West Asia pretty much alone.

The US’ stark isolation comes home dramatically by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s announcement on Wednesday that Turkey, a NATO member country, has severed all ties with Israel. Erdogan disclosed this to journalists aboard his plane after visiting Saudi Arabia. A regional trend to ostracise Israel is visible now and it is destined to expand and deepen.

The summit in Riyadh witnessed the African Union joining hands with the Arab League and OIC to sign a tripartite agreement on Tuesday to establish a mechanism to support the Palestinian cause, which will be coordinated through the three organisations’ secretariats as a game changer to strengthen their influence in international forums. Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan noted that the three organisations will now onward speak with one voice internationally.

Even as the summit concluded in Riyadh, Crown Prince Salman had a call on Wednesday with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The Kremlin readout stated that the two leaders “reaffirmed their commitment to continue the consistent expansion” of Russian-Saudi ties and specifically “stressed the importance of continuing close coordination within OPEC Plus and stated the effectiveness and timeliness of the steps being taken in this format to ensure balance on the global energy market.”

On the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, the Kremlin readout noted with satisfaction that “the principled approaches of Russia and Saudi Arabia with regard to the Middle East settlement are essentially identical.”

MbS’ initiative to re-invigorate his conversation with Putin can only be seen against the backdrop of the profound misgivings in Riyadh regarding the Trump-Netanyahu bromance and the spectre of a possible regional war haunting the region stemming out of Israel drawing encouragement from the seamless US support expected through the coming 4-year period for the Zionist cause.

The Dog That Barked in the Night

Revelation of a smoking gun for LIHOP 7 October

Sociopathic war criminal Benjamin Netanyahu doing his theatrics before an appreciative audience, the utterly deferential US Congress.

Before I mirror what Moon of Alabama’s Bernhard published today, here’s my short comment related to it:

How to amplify this important news? It sems clear the minutes could provide the smoking gun evidence needed to prove guilt, the crime being the facilitation of an attack on Zionists and the subsequent crime of killing innocent Palestinians and all international aid workers of all sorts.

IMO, mirroring b's report is the best those of us with our own media outlets can do at this point, and that's what I will do.

Many at MoA have advocated very strongly that Zionists knew beforehand what was to take place on 7 October and those efforts appear to be vindicated. The dog that barked is a riff on the Sherlock Holmes story about the dog that didn’t bark that was the key indicator in that mystery. Comment as usual can be made here but IMO it would be more pertinent to make it at MoA where it’s free and simple to do. The link’s in the opening sentence. Now here’s what was published:

Oct 7 2023 - Netanyahoo Knew The Attack Was Coming - He Let It Happen On Purpose

The prime minister of the Zionist entity, Benjamin Netanyahoo, is under fire. New criminal allegations have been raised against him.

People in Netanyaho's office had 'leaked' secret reports obtained by the Israeli military intelligence from some low level Hamas leader. Before leaking the documents, which included proposals for future actions, the leakers manipulated them.

The manipulated documents appeared as 'news' on foreign websites which allowed the censored Israeli media to repeat their content. As leaked the documents claimed that Hamas leaders Yahya Sinwar, accompanied by Israelis taken hostage, intended to escape to Egypt from where he would travel to Iran.

It was pretty obvious that the claims were fake. But Netanyahoo did use them to prevent further negotiations about hostage releases.

Several people involved in the leak of the manipulated top-secret papers have since been arrested.

Another scandal is currently brewing about events which immediately happened before the October 7 incursion of Hamas into Israel.

On October 6 a significant number of Hamas fighters in Gaza activated Israeli SIM cards which would allow them to use their cell phones within Israel. Various survival systems noted this and raised alarm. Meetings were held by several security councils, including the one involving the prime minister, but no further alarm was raised (machine translation):

More than a year after the October inauguration, the political leadership has repeatedly claimed that it did not receive any warning before the attack - but a document revealed this evening (Sunday) indicates otherwise. According to the document, on the night of the attack, at 02:58 a.m., the Shin Bet issued a significant warning to a number of security and political bodies, including the NSC directly subordinate to the prime Minister.
...
The alert, which was distributed through a computerized system, included information about unusual activity in the SIM network of several Hamas brigades. The Shin Bet said the activity was unusual and could indicate the possibility of some kind of offensive activity by Hamas.
...
Despite the severity of the warning, it appears that no significant action has been taken in its wake. The NSC, for example, did not take any steps following the receipt of the information. The Israeli police did not change their activities either, as can be seen from the fact that the Nuba party in southern Israel took place as planned.

This suggests, like several other ignored warnings imply, that Netanyahoo and others involved in the decisions knew of the incoming attack but had decided to let it happen to then use the aftermath for their own political purposes.

As the details were starting to come out Netanyahoo came under fire. He had claimed that the security services had been negligent in not issuing warnings. But in reality he seems to have been the one who was informed about the incoming attack but had rejected to raise the alarm.

All the national security council discussions about the decisions in the night of October 6 to 7 are noted in its protocols. As the walls were coming in on the prime minister his immediate aides sought to alter the protocols of the relevant meetings.

But the protocols were under control of a certain high ranking military officer. To get retroactive changes applied, which would exculpate the prime minister, Netanyahoo's aides tried to blackmail the officer over an alleged relation with a subaltern woman:

Top aides to Benjamin Netanyahu are suspected of trying to blackmail an IDF officer in the military secretariat of the Prime Minister’s Office in order to modify minutes of top-level security discussions in the hours before the Hamas attack that sparked the war in Gaza, Hebrew media reported Friday.
...
Hebrew media indicated the probe was related to a July report on Ynet that Netanyahu’s former military secretary, Maj. Gen. Avi Gil, had some months before warned the attorney general of efforts to change protocols of security discussions.

According to Channel 12, as part of the alleged attempt to change protocols, Netanyahu’s aides are thought to have used “sensitive footage” of a military secretariat officer in order to coax him into changing protocols discussions from the night of October 6-7, 2023 — hours before thousands of Hamas-led terrorists stormed southern Israel to kill some 1,200 people and take 251 hostages, sparking the war in Gaza.

Netanyahu has blamed Israel’s security forces for failure to foresee the attack, and resisted calls for a public commission of inquiry to be established into events leading up to it.

Channel 13 said Netanyahu’s aides allegedly stole compromising information about a military secretariat officer from the phone of a woman who works in the PMO. Netanyahu’s aides allegedly took her phone under the pretext that she was suspected of leaking confidential information, but are thought to have sought her personal correspondence with the officer, the report said.

The Kan public broadcaster had on Thursday reported that Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi, the IDF chief of staff, had some months ago received a complaint that the PMO was holding, and making inappropriate use of, sensitive footage of an IDF officer. Channel 13 reported that an official in Netanyahu’s circle told Halevi the officer was in an inappropriate relationship with a female worker in the PMO, though an army probe determined the relationship was not an abuse of power.

It is a wild story, and a juicy tale, and several Israeli media have been digging into it. But I have yet to find any media outside of Israel, except Seymour Hersh, which have touched on the latest issue.

There were suspicions from the very beginning that Israeli authorities had knowledge about the Hamas attack on October 7 2023 before it happened but had failed to raise the alarm. Claims were made, unfortunately without any evidence, that this was done not out of negligence, but on purpose.

They let the attack happen on purpose (LIHOP).

All that followed since was, from the very beginning, part of their long-term plans.

The commentator librul ever since 7 October has advocated it was a LIHOP and has provided evidence to support his arguments. Prior to today, I wasn’t 100% convinced that it was a LIHOP. But based on the evidence I’ve read over the past thirteen months, I’m as convinced it was a LIHOP as was Pearl Harbor and 911, and who knows how many others that are precedents.

Trump Has Ripped Us Off Like The Democrats Did

Here were the promises that Trump made to us (progressives):

In his campaign’s 21 March 2023 “Agenda47: President Trump’s Plan to Dismantle the Deep State and Return Power to the American People”, Trump said (and you can see and hear him say it by clicking onto that):

!function(r,u,m,b,l,e){r._Rumble=b,r[b]||(r[b]=function(){(r[b]._=r[b]._||[]).push(arguments);if(r[b]._.length==1){l=u.createElement(m),e=u.getElementsByTagName(m)[0],l.async=1,l.src="https://rumble.com/embedJS/u4"+(arguments[1].video?'.'+arguments[1].video:'')+"/?url="+encodeURIComponent(location.href)+"&args="+encodeURIComponent(JSON.stringify([].slice.apply(arguments))),e.parentNode.insertBefore(l,e)}})}(window, document, "script", "Rumble");

Here’s my plan to dismantle the deep state and reclaim our democracy from Washington corruption once and for all, and corruption it is.

First, I will immediately re-issue my 2020 Executive Order restoring the President’s authority to remove rogue bureaucrats. And I will wield that power very aggressively.

Second, we will clean out all of the corrupt actors in our National Security and Intelligence apparatus, and there are plenty of them. The departments and agencies that have been weaponized will be completely overhauled so that faceless bureaucrats will never again be able to target and persecute conservatives, Christians, or the left’s political enemies, which they’re doing now at a level that nobody can believe even possible.

Third, we will totally reform FISA courts which are so corrupt that the judges seemingly do not care when they are lied to in warrant applications. So many judges have seen so many applications that they know were wrong, or at least they must have known. They do nothing about it, they’re lied to.

Fourth, to expose the hoaxes and abuses of power that have been tearing our country apart, we will establish a Truth and Reconciliation Commission to declassify and publish all documents on Deep State spying, censorship, and corruption, and there are plenty of them.

Fifth, we will launch a major crackdown on government leakers who collude with the fake news to deliberately weave false narratives and to subvert our government and our democracy. When possible, we will press criminal charges.

Sixth, we will make every Inspector General’s Office independent and physically separated from the departments they oversee so they do not become the protectors of the Deep State.

Seventh, I will ask Congress to establish an independent auditing system to continually monitor our intelligence agencies to ensure they are not spying on our citizens or running disinformation campaigns against the American people, or that they are not spying on someone’s campaign like they spied on my campaign.

Eighth, we will continue the effort launched by the Trump administration to move parts of the sprawling federal bureaucracy to new locations outside the Washington Swamp. Just as I moved the Bureau of Land Management to Colorado, as many as 100,000 government positions can be moved out. And I mean immediately out of Washington to places filled with patriots who love America, and they really do love America.

Ninth, I will work to ban federal bureaucrats from taking jobs at the companies they deal with and that they regulate. So they deal with these companies and they regulate these companies and then they want to take jobs from these companies. Doesn’t work that way—such a public display cannot go on and it’s taking place all the time, like with Big Pharma.

Finally [tenth], I will push a constitutional amendment to impose term limits on members of Congress.

This is how I will shatter the deep state and restore government that is controlled by the people and for the people.

Go to top

Then, in his 19 July 2023 entitled 36-second Trump Social video, he said (which likewise sounds more like progressive democratic political left, than anything right wing):

“This is the final battle. With you at my side, we will demolish the Deep State, we will expell the war-mongers from our government, we will drive out the globalists, we will cast out the communists Marxists and fascists, we will throw off the sick political class that hates our country, we will rout the fake news media, and we will liberate America from these villains, once and for all.”

simultaneously endorsed (and was praised by) Trump, is NOT a part of his transition team; combined with the fact that at those joint events RFK Jr. was arguing AGAINST Trump’s now-apparent intention to CUT the regulatory agencies INSTEAD OF (as Kennedy has always urged) terminatethe revolving-door between them and the corporations that they ‘regulate’, does, at the very least, suggest that Kennedy has been conned by Trump and should therefore promptly inform Trump that he is considering to withdraw his endorsement, for that very reason. If Kennedy will warn Trump that he’s considering to do this, because Kennedy is being excludedfrom that operation, then the decision will be Trump’s as to whether he’ll correct that error, or instead go down to defeat. Listen to that speech by Kennedy, and … you will know that it’s like oil and water between the two of them, on the entire issue of corruption and regulation.”

FURTHERMORE: Trump’s foreign-affairs and national-security picks to-date have all been neoconservatives who are rabidly against China and Iran and who oppose continuing America’s ownership of Ukraine ever since February 2014 not because they are anti-imperialists (and therefore anti-neoconservative) as a progressive is, but instead because they want to redirect that immense weapons-spending to target against (and engage in a “New Cold War” against and then provoke a hot war with) both China and Iran. On November 11th, Trump selected one of those rabid neoconservatives, Mike Waltz, to be his National Security Advisor. Here is what the website “Florida Politics” said about this extreme neocon:

https://floridapolitics.com/archives/419663-michael-waltz-we-are-in-a-cold-war-with-the-chinese-communist-party/

https://web.archive.org/web/20231211195946/https://floridapolitics.com/archives/419663-michael-waltz-we-are-in-a-cold-war-with-the-chinese-communist-party/

“Michael Waltz: We are in a cold war with the Chinese Communist Party”

14 April 2021

‘They are certainly in one with us,’ Waltz said.

Republican U.S. Rep. Michael Waltz said Tuesday that the United States is in a cold war with the Chinese Communist Party waged globally and tactically in small theaters like the Panama Canal and the mountains of western Argentina.

Waltz has grown increasingly vocal with hawkish views of the American relationship with China, joining two other Florida Republicans, Sen. Rick Scott and MarcoRubio, in a drumbeat of criticism and alarm over China’s agenda and means to counter American global power. Scott earlier had declared he believes the United States and China arein a cold war, akin to the 45-year dangerous rivalry between the United States and the former Soviet Union. Rubio has been almost as hawkish but hasn’t quite used the words “cold war” yet to describe the relationship.

Waltz has now.

“We are, I believe, in a cold war with the Chinese Community Party. They are certainly in one with us,” Waltz said as the guest speaker at a U.S. Global Leadership Coalition Zoom conference on foreign affairs, for military veterans.

“As a country, we need to get on that footing,” Waltz said. “It’s not just a whole-of-a-government response. It’s a whole-of-society response. When we look at things that are happening in the technology, space, in our universities, in our capital markets, where the Chinese are rapidly pulling ahead, and talking about, openly, replacing the American Dream and American leadership around the world with the Chinese Dream and Chinese leadership.”

Waltz is a Green Beret combat veteran, a former senior policy adviser in the Pentagon, and currently a colonel in the Army National Guard.

In his comments to the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition, he also expressed his commitment to diplomacy and to American spending to support diplomatic efforts and development around the world, provided they are backed by American military strength.

Waltz expressed strong concerns about the United Nations’ efforts, and President Joe Biden‘s support for them, to create a new balance of power in Afghanistan involving the Taliban.

He also expressed his observation that in countries that encourage the education of girls and empowerment of women, women thrive in the society and economy, while “extremism does not.” He noted he is Co-Chair of the House’s Women, Peace and Security Caucus “with one of the more liberal members of Congress,” Democratic Rep. Lois Frankel of West Palm Beach.

But it was China that got Waltz rolling Tuesday. He called for a broader and deeper response to the Chinese government that he said is not only pushing toward world dominance but is in many ways being bankrolled by American capitalism happy to seek profits there. That has to stop, he said.

Waltz said China, in part using money raised from America, has bought up ports in Panama and is in position to control access to both sides of the canal, or at least to control access to the commercial infrastructure. “While I was down there, one of our frigates, wanted to — at least as I was told — wanted to stop in for repairs, and was denied,” Waltz said.

He said China was able to leverage debts from the Argentinian government to gain control of a mountain range. Now China has placed a satellite tracking station in those mountains that is in line with the polar-orbital routes used by the American military for launches from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California.

“They’re doing this around the world, with ports, with grids, with key terrain as they expand their presence in space, on both sides of the Suez Canal as well, buying into both of those free trade zones, so they are using economic tools to seize critical terrain that has key military applications,” Waltz said.

The plan regarding China is to send enough weapons to Taiwan so that it can declare itself NOT to be a part of China, in order to provoke China to invade so that America can then go directly to war against China —though America’s official policy ever since 1972 is and has been that “The United States acknowledges that all Chinese on either side of the Taiwan Strait maintain there is but one China and that Taiwan is a part of China.”

Rick Scott, who is the wealthiest of all U.S. Senators and extremely corrupt, is being heavily lobbied to become the replacement for Mitch McConnell as the leader of the U.S. Senate — and Trump hasn’t done anything to dissuade Republican Senators from voting for Scott. Marco Rubio is widely reported to be Trump’s likely pick to become U.S. Secretary of State to replace the neocon Antony Blinken. So: they’re all neocons — just as during Trump’s first Administration. Only the names have changed — to protect the guilt (Trump’s).

This is Trump’s way to “Make America Great Again”? No, it is his way to make America’s billionaires even fatter-with-wealth than they already are.

It seems to me that Trump’s progessive promises were just as insincere as were the Democratic Party’s ever since at least 1992. Neither Party really cares about anyone but its megadonors. American democracy now is as phony as a $3 bill. Short of a 2nd American Revolution, the totalitarian, purely aristocratic-ruled, U.S. regime, will only become tighter, until it chokes the entire world.

By Stansfield Smith  –  Nov 4, 2024

Compatible left” was a term used by the CIA to describe those on the left it has deemed compatible with maintaining imperialist world rule. This left has dominated the US left since the end of World War II, in large part a result of government operations repressing the communist or anti-imperialist left.  Historically, this compatible left that the CIA worked to cultivate rejects actually existing socialism and formed a “third camp” or “plague on both houses” left between capitalist and socialist countries. Providing a “respectable” alternative to the anti-imperialists, it used its progressive flavor to lure in radical youth, activists, workers, and intellectuals.

The CIA is correctly seen as a ruthless organization that overthrows democratic governments considered a threat to US domination. But this overlooks the CIA’s “gentler” work: underwriting and encouraging a compatible left, one which looks to the Democratic Party for political leadership. The CIA has secretly funded and managed a wide range of these groups and individuals. It sought to drive a wedge between the anti-imperialist left and the compromising “democratic socialist” left it found could serve the needs of US imperialism.

Today, the US national security state continues this work to undermine the anti-imperialist left and build up a faux left that subscribes to the “lesser evil” of the Democratic Party. Corporate foundations, such as the Rockefeller, Ford, Open Society, and Tides foundations, continue to funnel CIA money to progressive causes critical of actual anti-imperialism.

This liberal left has taken many different forms over the years. A century ago, its proponents included Karl Kautsky and Social Democracy with their condemnations of the Bolshevik revolution. In the US after World War II, they were dubbed “State Department socialists,” those who fight for social reforms at home, but whose international politics harmonize with government foreign policy positions, particularly under Democratic administrations. The CIA funded “Western Marxism,” a non-communist left and helped it grow in stature. Herbert Marcuse, who worked with the Office of Strategic Services, and later the State Department, may be the most renowned of this group. The Frankfurt School was another, also CIA supported.

Ten years ago, compatible leftists often described themselves as anti anti-imperialists and launched virulent attacks on those speaking out against US intervention in Qaddafi’s Libya and Assad’s Syria. They dropped that self-designation, though, as it too obviously revealed where they stood. Today this compatible left is most easily identified with the Democratic Party-DSA milieu, the Squad, Bernie Sanders, JacobinIn These Times, and The Nation.

The US rulers foster these “left” gatekeepers as boundary markers for “respectable” left views. In the 60s the term used was “responsible.” This left is used to undermine and marginalize the anti-war or anti-imperialist movement. It calls out “from the left” real or concocted human rights issues in countries the US targets, so help legitimize US propaganda campaigns, becoming witting or unwitting conveyor belts for them into our movement. As a result, this compatible left has much greater access to foundation funding and to progressive media than anti-imperialists. They are much more likely to be employed by universities, NGOs, progressive thinktanks, and to appear on mainstream and liberal-left news.

Recent compatible left attacks on Venezuela

Lucas Koerner and Ricardo Vaz point out: “Every time Venezuela’s Bolivarian Revolution is faced with renewed threats to its survival, a stratum of U.S.-based intellectuals is always ready with ‘left’ critiques that deliberately obscure the permanent imperialist siege against the country.” Koerner and Vaz illustrated this type with Gabriel Hetland in New Left Reviewand Alejandro Velasco in The Nation. Hetland and Velasco capitulate to the US State Department position rejecting the electoral victory of Nicolas Maduro. They urge us to “‘resist apologism for Maduro’ and accept the victory of a fascist-led opposition movement.” Another of this type is Fred Fuentes, who once defended Bolivian President Evo Morales’ Movement for Socialism from the same type of attack.

Ten years ago, compatible leftists often described themselves as anti anti-imperialists and launched virulent attacks on those speaking out against US intervention in Qaddafi’s Libya and Assad’s Syria. They dropped that self-designation, though, as it too obviously revealed where they stood. Today this compatible left is most easily identified with the Democratic Party-DSA milieu, the Squad, Bernie Sanders, Jacobin, In These Times, and The Nation.

Velasco was the executive editor for NACLA from 2015-2021, whose Board Chair Program Director is Thomas Kruse of the Rockefeller Brothers FundThe Nation, which published Hetland, receives hundreds of thousands a year in corporate foundation funding.

The US coup operation planned for the Venezuelan presidential election last July 28 was to culminate in the hacking and disruption of the vote count, with the defeated far right party of Maria Machado declaring themselves the winner. This was to be followed by guarimbas (chaos, destruction, and murders in the streets) and then military intervention to crush the Chavista movement. The US-backed operation has been exposed by numerous writers, including Francisco DominguezLeonardo FloresRoger HarrisMaria Paez Victor, Stansfield SmithNino PaglicciaAlfred de ZayasNational Lawyers Guild (and here), Arnold AugustEdward HuntLuigino Bracci Roa, and others. Needless to say, the Hetland-Velasco type avoid addressing the realities these anti-imperialists present.

The US empire regularly cooks up human rights horror stories that this compatible left then feeds us, like this latest iteration of Chavista electoral fraud. The empire also concocted stories of “killing of students in Nicaragua in 2018, Qaddafi’s plans for mass rape and murder in LibyaHamas mass killing and rape of civilians on October 7, Chinese genocide in XinjiangIran’s killing of Mahsa Amin in 2022, Evo Morales stealing an election in 2019, Cuba’s repression of mass protests in 2021, Russia’s “unprovoked” intervention into Ukraine, Syria’s Assad chemical weapons attack on his own people, Venezuela’s President Maduro fixing the [2018] elections, Chavez’ supporters killing protestors in 2002, and on and on. The only truth to these stories is that the US corporate media constantly lie to us to win support for their interventions.”

This approach [by the Hetland-Velasco type] of criticizing leaderships of countries targeted for overthrow, not imperialist aggression, and not building movements against intervention, is too common among progressives today. It portrays an elementary lack of anti-imperialist consciousness.”

The actual work of anti-imperialists requires exposing the US empire’s continuous interventionist actions and provocations, and consequent high costs we pay at home. It requires equipping people with this information and organizing working people against the domestic and foreign damage of the empire’s interference and interventions. Working people are still largely unaware of the toll of US coup attempts, terrorist actions, corporate arm-twisting of foreign leaders, the empire’s weaponizing international banking and finance, the effects of US “sanctions” and blockades, the use of NGOs as regime change tools, or the scope of corporate media disinformation. In short, all the US rulers’ behind-the-scenes activities that Julian Assange and Wikileaks brought to light. This, not critiquing victimized countries’ real or concocted human rights abuses or their responses to US aggression, is anti-imperialist work.

Fred Fuentes, while the compatible left type today, had an anti-imperialist past when covering the MAS leadership in Bolivia, even taking on the very type he has become. Back in 2014 he explained:

“The challenges Bolivia faces cannot be simply reduced to a question of [present day] imperialist ‘meddling’: they are a direct result of centuries of colonialism and imperialist oppression, which have entrenched Bolivia in its role within the world economy as a dependent raw commodity exporter….The main way we can help Bolivia’s social movements is still by winning over working people in the North to a position of solidarity with Bolivia. And the best way to do this is not to simply oppose “imperialist meddling” but to build an international movement against the imperialist system… explaining why, as long as imperialism exists, Bolivia’s process of change will undoubtedly continue to face tremendous obstacles and dangers.” (“Bad Left Government” versus “Good Left Social Movements”? in Latin America’s Radical Left, pp. 120, 121)

Today, Fuentes sings the Hetland-Velasco tune, claiming President Maduro and the Chavistas stole the election – the same position as the Venezuelan fascist right, the US State Department, and the CIA.

The compatible left role in US elections

We find this compatible left especially active in US presidential season. They tell us it’s vital for the left to vote for the genocidal Biden-Harris regime to save “democracy” from the “fascist” Trump. They may throw out there that the two parties are run by corporate America, that we need our own party. But they only say this to emphasize that this election is different, the most significant of our lifetimes, given the looming fascist danger.

Translated, they are saying no time is a good time for a labor party. Every election is the wrong time. Every election vote Democratic. Never try to build a third party. In election season their “lesser evil” rhetoric morphs into voting the Democratic ticket as actually a positive goodThe Nation condemns President Maduro and endorses Kamala, finding her “worthy of our votes and our support.” Worse still, this type excuses, even covers up the constant rightward shift of the Democrats while exaggerating that shift in the Republicans, the same way the Hetland-Velasco-Fuentes type covers up US-sponsored election stealing regime change while making evidence-free fraud allegations against the Chavistas.

This faux left assures the Democrats that you can commit genocide for over a year, you can march humanity towards nuclear war with Russia, you can continue to neglect the needs of the people at home, and we will still harangue the left milieu to vote for you. That tells the Democrats they can keep moving to the right, they can ignore our protests against their inhumane policies, and they can still count on our votes. Their function is to sabotage the building of an independent working class political movement, just as they sabotage the anti-imperialist solidarity movement.

The compatible left attacks not just those defending other countries’ national liberation against the US empire, but also attacks our own fight for national liberation against this corporate ruling class at home.

In building the anti-imperialist working class movement, a key opponent we face is this liberal-left Fifth Column, though this is not so apparent in these times of relative social peace.

This conveyor belt of imperialist propaganda into the working class movement does possess decent “cred” in the left milieu, so earns a hearing here (as Democracy Now illustrates), something traditional bourgeois analysts and talking heads do not possess.

When the class struggle does heat up here, this type will be one final weapon the rulers will use against us before they actually resort to genuine fascist rule. We saw this with the Social Democrats and the Mensheviks in World War I and its aftermath. Regardless of the bluster the compatible left makes today about fighting “fascism,” the role they played then was essential for the rise of fascism in Italy and Germany. As the CIA recognizes, the compatible left plays a vital role in their “regime change” propaganda, and in obstructing the building of an anti-imperialist movement of working people in the US.

  • In cynicism and power, the US propaganda machine easily surpasses Orwells Ministry of Truth.
  • Now the fight against anti-semitism is being weaponised as a new sanctimonious McCarthyism.
  • Unless opposed, neither justice nor our Constitutional right to Free Speech will survive this assault.
