CHARLES McKELVEY—The United States, either through war with Iran to contain China, or through unconventional war to weaken all anti-imperialist states, or both, is seeking to stop the dialectical march of modern history. The United States can do so only through destruction, which also could lead to its own demise. It would be far more dignified for the American republic to participate positively in the second stage of the modern synthesis, in which cooperation and mutually beneficial trade are established as an international norm. In doing so, the United States would once again be one of the world’s leading nations, and it could interpret its enlightened turn as the fulfillment of the promise of democracy contained in the founding of the American republic.

AL JAZEERA—When two young American Jews raised to support Israel unconditionally witness the way Israel treats Palestinians, it changes their lives. They join a movement of young American Jews campaigning to redefine Judaism’s relationship with Israel and reveal a deepening generational divide over modern Jewish identity. Israelism sparked huge debate on American campuses even before the events of October 7, 2023. It follows Simone Zimmerman, who visited Israel as a teenager, and Eitan who joined the Israeli army after graduating from high school as they discover the reality for Palestinians and radically revise their views. It includes interviews with academics and political activists, including Noam Chomsky, Cornel West, Lara Friedman and a former director of the Anti-Defamation League, Abe Foxman. Contributors suggest the narrative that young American Jews are fed almost entirely erases the existence of the Palestinians through education and advocacy, sometimes involving groups that organise free trips to Israel partially funded by the Israeli government. This film describes how influential this narrative is in shaping attitudes to Israel, not just in the United States but across the world.

EDITOR—Increasing numbers of Israeli soldiers are becoming disillusioned with fighting in Gaza and other areas of conflict in Lebanon and the West Bank, leading some to refuse to return to the battlefield. According to a report in Israeli outlet HaMakom, interviews with over 20 parents and fighters in a range of battalions have revealed increasing dissatisfaction in the ranks. Among the Nahal Brigade, soldiers spend five weeks fighting in Gaza before returning home to rest, something they have done 11 times so far since the beginning of fighting October 2023. Jimmy speaks with Congressional candidate Jose Vega and retired Marine Scott Ritter about why the circumstances in Gaza would lead IDF soldiers in particular to refuse to fight any more.

PAUL EDWARDS—War between Israel and Iran with the participation of The Empire cannot be contained, and all potential combatants know it. If The Empire assists Israel to ravage Iran, Russia will enter the war on Iran’s behalf. If this occurs, it will threaten the entire world.
The morally cowardly world runs less risk in uniting to stop Israel’s mass murder now, based on international law, than in watching passively as Netanyahu attacks Iran. Uniting to stop the murder can and should be done forcefully and diplomatically, thereby greatly lessening the risk of war.
The Empire would have to be confronted, but not militarily. It could still opt for world war if Israel attacked Iran massively but, facing united opposition to that lunacy, it would have to act in defiance of the wishes of the nearly united world. Even our jejune, shallow, reckless minders would have to give that decision grave thought, or their defective version of it.
