VINCENT KELLEY—It is figures like Epstein who are most invested in the scientific and technological progress that so many well-adjusted, liberal Americans uncritically support. Although Epstein’s actions are especially deplorable, his Epicurean scientistic worldview is one that is held by many others as a default. The fact that a man like Epstein subscribes to such a widespread epistemology and funds what is ostensibly the scientific research and technological development of the future should give us all pause.

TOM CARTER—But under capitalism, new advances in technology have made possible new techniques of exploitation. Amazon has become a watchword for a new kind of despotism in the workplace. In Amazon “fulfillment centers,” workers are forbidden to carry cellphones or to talk to each other. The strange Koch/Soros alliance for a new US foreign policy raises questions on all sides
2 minutes readA change of US foreign policy away from regime change wars and other ugly interventions? Most importantly of all, you have enormous power–the power to make others do your bidding, to shape the world according to your fancy, to tell “the people”–the little ones–how it’s going to be whether they like it or not. All of this you now possess. But can you hold on to it? That is the supreme question! You own the world today, but what must you do to ensure you still own it tomorrow? You need the Owner’s Manual. Fortunately for you it is now in your hands.

ERIC ZUESSE—Actually, all billionaires are conservatives, because they need to be that, in order to call a country like America “democratic” instead of “dictatorial,” and they need that myth of American ‘democracy’ in order to prevent a revolution, which would strip them of their power. (No American billionaire calls America a “dictatorship,” even though it is and each of them knows it, since they collectively are the dictators here, and since they don’t become involved in politics, at all, unless they want to remain in control over it.
