Russia's Air and Space Forces are to receive state-of-the-art S-500 Prometey ("Prometheus") anti-aircraft missile systems by 2020, Lieutenant-General Viktor Gumenny, Deputy Commander-in-Chief  of the Russian Air Force said. Russia has been developing the new system since 2011.

The new anti-aircraft missile systems of the S-500 will have a number of advantages. The S-500 is believed to be a universal anti-aircraft long-range and high-altitude missile interception system with an enhanced missile defense capability.

According to information from open sources, the S-500 has an impact radius of 600 kilometers. The complex will be able to detect and simultaneously strike up to ten ballistic supersonic targets flying at speeds of up to seven kilometers per second. It will also be able to defeat combat blocks of hypersonic missiles. In a nutshell, the new complex will become one of the elements of counteraction to the USA's Prompt Global Strike Concept.

According to the National Interest, the S-500 of Russia will be similar to THAAD, integrated into a "single network" with S-400, S-300VM4 (Antey-2500) and S-350 (Vityaz) systems thus forming an integrated air defense system.

Generally speaking, experts believe that the S-500 can be attributed to the first generation of systems of anti-space defense, unrivaled throughout the world.

At present, Russia's air defenses are based on S-400 complexes. As of May of this year, the armed forces of the Russian Federation had nineteen S-400 regiments (38 divisions out of 304 launchers).

The S-400 Triumph system has gained a lot of international attention recently primarily because of Russia's agreements to sell those systems to Turkey and Saudi Arabia.

Given the history of the development of the American THAAD system that has experienced many problems in more than ten years of tests, there are reasons to believe that it will take Russia a long time to create an effective anti-missile system, the National Interest assumed.

However, Russia has extensive experience in the development of anti-missile systems, and her present-day complexes are still top of the line, so Russia can take her time.

The Best Definition of Donald Trump We Have Found

In his zeal to prove to his antagonists in the War Party that he is as bloodthirsty as their champion, Hillary Clinton, and more manly than Barack Obama, Trump seems to have gone “play-crazy” -- acting like an unpredictable maniac in order to terrorize the Russians into forcing some kind of dramatic concessions from their Syrian allies, or risk Armageddon. However, the “play-crazy” gambit can only work when the leader is, in real life, a disciplined and intelligent actor, who knows precisely what actual boundaries must not be crossed. That ain’t Donald Trump -- a pitifully shallow and ill-disciplined man, emotionally handicapped by obscene privilege and cognitively crippled by white American chauvinism. By pushing Trump into a corner and demanding that he display his most bellicose self, or be ceaselessly mocked as a “puppet” and minion of Russia, a lesser power, the War Party and its media and clandestine services have created a perfect storm of mayhem that may consume us all. Unstable Empire: Committee to Investigate Russia Beats the Drums of War

Rob Reiner: a deranged imbecile, or degenerate centrist liberal, take your pick, unfortunately quite common in the current Hollywood subculture.  Now in bed with the CIA and doing their bidding along with other idiots. For a man who came to fame playing an antiwar, counterculture figure in hit show All in the Family, this is quite an about face, but all too typical.

“Trump's reign is the most visible sign of that weakness.”

The newly created Committee to Investigate Russia (CIR) released a video narrated by Morgan Freeman warning the US public about Russia. Freeman's rant exposed the CIR as nothing but a CIA-front group seeking to beat the drums of war with Russia. A quick look at the website gives all the information one needs to know about the CIR. CIR's advisory board includes former National Intelligence Director James Clapper and current Senior Fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) Max Boot. Deranged Hollywood personality Rob Reiner also serves on the board. With Trump increasingly aligning with the neo-con imperial establishment on questions of foreign policy, the war hawks in the US ruling class are preparing for a larger confrontation with the Russian Federation.

No evidence of Russian tampering is provided by either the website or the two-minute long video. The message, however, is clear. Freeman states in plain terms that "we are at war." He claims that Russia is interfering with democracies all over the world. Putin is depicted as a deranged, revenge-driven autocrat. His goal is simple: to disrupt democratic governance by way of cyber terror.

“Morgan Freeman states that ‘for 241 years, our democracy has been a shining example to the world of what we can all aspire to.’"

Freeman only needed one line to discredit the CIR's anti-Russia narrative. In the video, he states that "for 241 years, our democracy has been a shining example to the world of what we can all aspire to." Such imperial hubris doesn’t acknowledge the vast crimes of the US empire. These crimes include the genocide of indigenous and African peoples during much of the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries. In the 20th century, the US imperial state managed to murder somewhere between twenty to thirty million people and interfere in the political processes of over fifty different nations . This includes US interference in the 1996 Russian election , whereby the US helped manipulate the results in favor of unpopular oligarch Boris Yeltsin.

This only skims the surface of the long list of examples of US-led criminality both domestically and abroad. The US is run by an international cartel of bankers, corporate executives, and state actors that protect the rule of the rich. It is only fitting then that five individuals connected to the US intelligence services would form an "non-profit" dedicated to disseminating anti-Russia narratives. A recent leak of Pentagon documents reveal that the US intelligence services have altered and interfered in over 1,800 movies and shows . That means Rob Reiner and Morgan Freeman are just as close to the intelligence services as the rest of the advisory board.

“In the 20th century, the US imperial state managed to murder somewhere between twenty to thirty million people and interfere in the political processes of over fifty different nations.”

Clapper, Boot, Sykes, and Ornstein all come from the Obama-Bush sector of the ruling class. Boot and Sykes are neo-conservative war-hawks. It should be noted that these war-hawks have been embraced by both corporate parties in the US. MSNBC’s favorite Democratic Party mouthpiece, Joy Ann Reid, recently interviewed that she finds herself having more in common with the likes of Max Boot than with the "far left." In other words, the Democrats and their media supporters will unite with anyone as long as it fulfills the objective of escalating war with Russia.

The Committee to Investigate Russia comes amid a number of efforts to strengthen what is now the dying narrative that the Russians hacked the 2016 elections in favor of Trump. Facebook recently announced that it will begin shutting down profiles deemed to be Russian creations. The New York Times recently reported that Facebook traced $100,000 worth of "anti-Clinton" ads back to Russian sources. Such a small investment and no proof to back the claim other than Facebook's word has placed the Russia election story on the verge of collapse. This prompted the US military state and their Hollywood allies to facilitate a new project to revive the useful myth.

“The US empire continues to lose ground in the world economic order.”

The US military state’s obsession with Russia is driven by the need to tame Trump and expand the war agenda at the same time. Balancing the two has driven the political situation in the US beyond the point of insanity. At the UN General Assembly, Trump spoke of the possibility of the US annihilating the DPRK and escalating tensions with Iran. Yet not even this was good enough for the US military state. Trump's proposed military budget increase of 54 billion dollars was bested by the Senate and House , both of which agreed to a 77-billion-dollar increase. The National Defense Authorization Act of 2017 passed by the Senate will add several hundred million dollars to "deter Russian aggression."

Washington's political elite in both houses have voiced disgust for Trump but praise him whenever he agrees with their war designs. They have also attempted to pressure him at every moment into even more dangerous war maneuvers. This could be seen in late July when the Senate agreed upon tighter sanctions against Russia, Iran, and the DPRK. The world finds itself dangerously close to a major confrontation not seen since the last World War. And even if Trump is at the helm when it occurs, it is certain that he won't be alone in ensuring the planet's nuclear destruction.

The US empire has never been more unstable and the drums of war never as loud as they are today. What is keeping the US military apparatus from setting the world ablaze in nuclear flames is the empire's own weakness. Trump's reign is the most visible sign of that weakness. The US empire continues to lose ground in the world economic order. Economic dislocation and state repression are producing unmanageable conditions inside of the empire's artificial borders. The question is not if, but when, a breaking point occurs when the masses of poor and exploited people say enough is enough.

SPUTNIK DISPATCHES

The Russian Navy's latest anti-Daesh operation in Syria, which saw the Admiral Essen frigate and the Krasnodar submarine launch four Kalibr cruise missiles against militant targets to the east of Palmyra, has helped to test and improve some of the most advanced weapons in Moscow's arsenal, defense analysts told Sputnik.

"The number of missiles and their distribution, two on a ship and two on a submarine, indicate that this was likely a 'combat training launch.' In other words, Russian servicemen were testing these weapons, but they used the opportunity to employ these armaments in combat against a specific target," President of the Academy of Geopolitical Studies Konstantin Sivkov said.

The defense analyst described preparations for such a launch as an "extremely demanding process which requires massive computational capabilities." This suggests that the operation was planned in advance. "They did not simply locate the militants and carry out an airstrike," he pointed out.On Tuesday, the Admiral Essen frigate and the Project 636 Varshavyanka submarine Krasnodar launched four Kalibr cruise missiles from the eastern Mediterranean, hitting all intended targets to the east of Palmyra. The Russian Ministry of Defense announced that the Russian Navy destroyed Daesh hideouts, housing heavy military equipment. An unconfirmed number of militants were eliminated in the successful operation.

"All targets have been hit. The Krasnodar submarine was submerged during the launch. Senior defense officials in the United States, Turkey and Israel were informed of the cruise missile launch through existing cooperation channels in a prompt manner," the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement.

Russia previously used Kalibr cruise missiles last November.Colonel General Leonid Ivashov, the former head of the main department of international military cooperation of the Russian Defense Ministry, pointed out that the campaign in Syria has allowed the Russian Armed Forces to improve their combat capabilities.

"The most efficient method entails carrying out combat operations against a real enemy instead of launching airstrikes against familiar stationary targets at a testing range. One could say that the operation in Syria has provided [the Russian military] with such an opportunity," he said. "In addition such missions help improve combat characteristics of the missiles."

Russian special forces repel a US-planned attack in Syria, denounce the USA and issue a stark warning

"I hope that eventually the Americans will do what they did in al-Taif and simply pack, declare victory and leave. That would be the only rational thing to do. Syria is bracing for a U.S. attack and the Russians are helping the Assad government. (Image by YouTube)

[dropcap]S[/dropcap]omething rather unprecedented just happened in Syria: US backed "good terrorist" forces attempted a surprise attack against Syrian government forces stationed to the north and northeast of the city of Hama. What makes this attack unique is that it took place inside a so-called "de-escalation zone" and that it appears that one of the key goals of the attack was to encircle in a pincer-movement and subsequently capture a platoon of Russian military police officers deployed to monitor and enforce the special status of this zone.

The Russian military police forces, composed mainly of soldiers from the Caucasus region, fought against a much larger enemy force and had to call for assistance. For the first time, at least officially, Russian special operations forces were deployed to rescue and extract their comrades. At the same time, the Russians sent in a number of close air support aircraft who reportedly killed several hundred "good" terrorists and beat back the attack (Russian sources speak of the destruction of 850 fighters, 11 tanks, three infantry fighting vehicles, 46 armed pickup trucks, five mortars, 20 freighter trucks and 38 ammo supply points; you can see photos of the destroyed personnel and equipment here). What also makes this event unique is the official reaction of the Russians to this event.

Head of the Main Operations Department at Russia's General Staff Colonel General Sergei Rudskoi declared that:

"Despite agreements signed in Astana on September 15, gunmen of Jabhat al-Nusra and joining them units that don't want to comply with the cessation of hostilities terms, launched a large-scale offensive against positions of government troops north and northeast of Hama in Idlib de-escalation zone from 8 am on September 19 (...) According to available data, the offensive was initiated by American intelligence services to stop a successful advance of government troops east of Deir ez-Zor."

Today, other Russian officials have added a not-so-veiled threat to this accusation. The Russian Defense Ministry's spokesman, Major General Igor Konashenkov has declared that:

"Russia unequivocally told the commanders of US forces in Al Udeid Airbase (Qatar) that it will not tolerate any shelling from the areas where the SDF are stationed (...) Fire from positions in regions [controlled by the SDF] will be suppressed by all means necessary."

This is unprecedented on many levels. First, the Russians clearly believe that this attempt to kill or capture a platoon of the Russian military police was planned by the United States. The fact that they are making this accusation officially shows the degree of irritation felt by the Russians about the duplicity of the Americans.

Spetsnaz operatives in Syria.

Second, this is the first time, at least to my knowledge, that Russian Spetsnaz forces had to be sent in to rescue a surrounded Russian subunit. All Spetsnaz operators survived, but three of them were wounded in the operation (the Russians are not saying how badly). The close air support by very low flying SU-25 aircraft was obviously coordinated by Spetsnaz forward air controllers and probably saved the day. In other words, this was a close call and things could have ended much more badly (just imagine what the Takfiri crazies would have done, on video, to any captured Russian serviceman!).

Finally, a US-organized attack on what was supposed to be a "de-confliction" zone combined with an attempt to capture Russian soldiers raises the bar for American duplicity to a totally new level.

The big question now is "do the Russians mean it?" or are they just whining with real determination to hit back if needed.

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]here are a couple of problems here. First, objectively, the Russian contingent in Syria is a tiny one if compared to the immense power of CENTCOM, NATO and the ever-present Israelis. Not only that, but in any US-Russian confrontation, Russia as a country is objectively the weaker side by any measure except a full-out nuclear exchange. So the Russians are not in a position of force. Furthermore, for historical and cultural reasons, Russians are much more concerned by the initiation of any incident which could lead to all-out war than the Americans who always fight their wars in somebody else's country. This might seem paradoxical, but the Russians fear war but they are ready for it. In contrast to the Russians, the Americans don't fear war, but neither are they ready for it. In practical terms this means that an American miscalculation could very well lead to a Russian military response which would stun the Americans and force them to enter an escalatory spiral which nobody would control.

Remember how Hillary promised that she would unilaterally impose a so-called "no-fly" zone over Syria? She promised not only to deploy US aircraft above Russian forces in Syria, but she also promised that she would force the Russian Aerospace forces out of the Syrian skies. Thank God, this crazy witch was not elected, but it appears that folks with the same arrogant and, frankly, completely irresponsible point of view are now back in power under Trump.

My fear now is that the incompetent, arrogant, not too bright and generally ignorant commanders at the Pentagon and the CIA will simply ignore clear warning signs coming from the Russians, including the public announcement that the Kremlin has given the authority to use force to protect Russian personnel to the local Russian commanders in Syria. In plain English, this means that if they are attacked the Russians in Syria do not need to consult with Moscow before using force to protect themselves. By the way, such rules of engagement are pretty common, there is nothing earth shattering here, but the fact that they were made public is, again, a message to the AngloZionist and the "good" terrorists they use to try to conquer Syria.

This time around we (the world) were lucky. The Syrians fought hard and the "good" terrorists were probably surprised by the ruthless determination of the Russian military police forces (in reality, mostly Chechen special forces) and of the Spetsnaz operators. It is one thing to fight Syrian conscripts, quite another to deal with these hardened warriors. But the next time around the outcome could be different.

The bigger picture is also one which gives me a great deal of concern. The Syrians, with Iranian, Hezbollah and Russian help, have freed Deir ez-Zor and have crossed the Euphrates river and are moving further East. In plain English this means that the US and Daesh have lost the war and that the last region of Syria from which the AngloZionists can hope to partition the country (their current "plan B") and establish a permanent US military presence is now threatened by the Syrian advance. The distance between the US forces currently deployed in northeastern Syria and Syrian, Iranian, Hezbollah and Russian forces is becoming shorter and shorter each day. I can just imagine how, say, Iranian or Hezbollah forces which are already "smelling" the nearby presence of US forces are drooling with hunger for the moment they will finally be able to get their hands on their old and most hated foe. I feel sincerely sorry for the first US unit to make contact with the Iranians or Hezbollah forces.

[dropcap]R[/dropcap]ight now the Americans are hiding behind the Kurds, but sooner or later the Iranians or Hezbollah will find them. As for the Kurds, their situation in Syria is precarious, to put it mildly: they are surrounded on all sides by the Turks, the Syrians and the Iranians and their only more or less stable zone of control is in Iraq. The Americans understand that perfectly, hence their desperate attempts to stop the Syrians.

This is a very dangerous situation: even though CENTCOM and NATO are by far the "biggest guys on the block," in Syria the Americans are cornered, their corner is shrinking fast and it remains entirely unclear how this process can be stopped. Hence the attack on the de-confliction zone we just witnessed.

I hope that eventually the Americans will do what they did in al-Taif and simply pack, declare victory and leave. That would be the only rational thing to do. But after listening to Trump at the UN I don't get the feeling that being rational is at the top of the US priority list. That's all rather frightening.

Test of Iskander-M Tactical Ballistic Missile (VIDEO)

The Russian military conducted on Monday a successful test launch of a missile from an Iskander-M short-range ballistic missile system to a maximum operational distance, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

Originally appeared at RussiaFeed.com

“An upgraded Iskander-M missile system carried out test launch of a missile from the Kapustin Yar testing range in the Astrakhan region in the framework of the Zapad-2017 joint Russia-Belarus strategic exercise,” the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement obtained by Sputnik.

“The missile flew the distance of 480 kilometers [some 300 miles] and successfully hit a designated target at the Makat testing range [Kazakhstan],” the statement said.

The 9K720 Iskander (Russian: «Искандер») is a mobile short-range ballistic missile system produced and deployed by the Russian Federation. The missile systems (Искандер-М) are to replace the obsolete OTR-21 Tochka systems, still in use by the Russian armed forces, by 2020.

The Iskander has several different conventional warheads, including a cluster munitions warhead, a fuel-air explosive enhanced-blast warhead, a high explosive-fragmentation warhead, an earth penetrator for bunker busting and an electromagnetic pulse device for anti-radar missions.

The missile can also carry nuclear warheads. In September 2017, the KBM general designer Valery M. Kashin said that there were at least seven types of missiles (and ″perhaps more″) for Iskander, including one cruise missile.
